Some tomato varieties were created for cultivation in the open field, mainly in the southern regions of Russia. High autumn temperatures extend the growing season of crops, allowing harvests in September-October. Titan tomatoes belong to just such a group. There are two branches of the variety: Titanium Red and Titanium Pink, which will be discussed.
Breeding history
The homeland of Titan tomato varieties is the North Caucasus; culture appeared in the 80s of the XX century. The first Titan was registered in the register of breeding achievements in 1986 and zoned for the North Caucasus region. Although it was red, this is not reflected in the name in any way. The variety turned out to be successful, the breeders continued to work, and in the 2000s, the pink brother of Titan was born. The development was started in 2003 by a group of scientists, which included the same specialists who worked on Titan Red, namely: Egiyan M.E., Lukyanenko O.A.
After tests carried out in the register approved for cultivation in the North Caucasus, the Lower Volga region in the open field, it was registered in 2006 under the name Titan Pink. The originator in both cases was the Federal Research Center “All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources named after V.I. Vavilov "(St. Petersburg).
Description of the variety
Titan Pink is a low-growing standard bush, no more than 60 cm in height. The plant has a determinant type of growth. The trunk is quite thick and sturdy. It has large green leaves. The first simple inflorescence is formed after 5-7 leaves, the next bunches are located through 2 leaf plates. The peduncles are not articulated.
The main qualities of the fruit
Smooth and smooth berries of Titanium Pink look great and are highly marketable. Unripe tomatoes are painted in a light green color, but there is a dark-colored spot next to the stalk. Ripe tomatoes are pink as the name suggests. There are 4 seed chambers, maybe more. Fruits weigh on average from 91 to 168 g (there are results even higher - up to 214 g).
Taste characteristics
All those who have already tasted Titan Pink tomatoes mark it as good and excellent. Dry matter - 4.0-6.1%, sugar content - 2.0-3.4%. Tomato is classified as salad, but it is also suitable for any processing, such as juices, ketchups, pasta.
Ripening and fruiting
Titan Pink is a medium early variety, from the first shoots to the beginning of fruiting, it takes about 4 months, and if you count in days, then 115-120.
Yield
The variety is considered to be quite fruitful. So, from one bush you can get up to 4 kg of marketable fruits.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Sowing the seeds of Titan Pink for the purpose of growing seedlings, experts recommend to produce in the period from March to April. Seedlings dive after the appearance of 1 leaf. At the time of planting in the ground, the grown plants should be from 30 to 35 days.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
Plant seedlings of Titan Pink with a density of 40 x 60 cm.
Growing and care
Tomato Titan Pink has been specially developed for growing on open ground. But film cultivation also gives fruitful results. In the beds in the southern regions, it is better to form a plant in 1-2 stems.
Titan Pink is a plant of a determinant type of development, which ends when a certain number of fruit clusters are tied. The brush and fruit will remain at the top. The bushes of the variety are strong, few shoots are formed, therefore, the culture does not require pinching.
A varietal tomato does not need too abundant irrigation, therefore, after planting in the ground, the bushes are watered after 3 weeks using warm and settled water. The roots do not need to be poured too much, moistening the soil as the surface layer dries.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
Tomatoes, made to grow in warm climates, love warmth, of course. Therefore, they do not tolerate low temperatures well, and are also exposed to phytophthora. In cooler climates, tomatoes may not ripen. It is recommended to grow them in heated greenhouses in such areas.
Growing regions
Tomato Titan Pink is zoned for regions such as the North Caucasian and Nizhnevolzhsky. Priority cultivation is open ground.
