Tomato varieties with unusual colors are always the subject of interest for gardeners. After all, sooner or later, any gardener wants to move away from the classics, try something unique. In this case, you can advise the Tiger Cub. This variety will not only surprise everyone with its colors, but will also become the first in the garden for unpretentious care and yield.

Breeding history

The tiger cub appeared thanks to the efforts of the breeders of Agrofirma Aelita LLC. The work on the variety was carried out by such scientists as Kachainik, Gulkin, Karmanova and Matyunina. By 2015, the culture was tested and entered into the State Register. The variety of Russian selection is recommended for a wide variety of areas. In the south, it is cultivated in open beds. And in colder areas they are located under greenhouse shelters.

Description of the variety

The tiger cub has an indeterminate type of development. If the plant is not pinched, then in greenhouse conditions it will stretch up to two meters. In the open field, the growth rates are slightly lower - mostly no more than 1.5 m. There are not too many branches, and they do not differ in spreading, so the bushes look quite compact. The leaf plates are medium in length, their color is classic, dark green.

The inflorescences of this variety are predominantly complex. The tiger cub almost always demonstrates high yields, therefore, from 7 to 9 fruitful clusters are formed on the bush. 8-12 beautiful even tomatoes ripen in one brush. The fruit contains 2 seed nests. The flesh is of medium density and is covered with a smooth, shiny rind.

The main qualities of the fruit

The tiger cub forms small fruits. In most cases, the weight does not exceed 30-35 grams. Quite rarely, the fruits reach the mark of 50-70 grams, but this is only with very enhanced agricultural technology. Rounded unripe berries are light green. The situation changes as it matures. Ripening, the fruits acquire a red tint, and light stripes begin to creep along their surface. All this resembles the color of a tiger skin, which is why tomatoes have received such a name.

Taste characteristics

The tiger cub is a very tasty variety. In it, sweetness is perfectly combined with an unobtrusive sourness. Cut small fruits look very nice in summer salads. Even more interesting, they look whole in banks. Due to the decorativeness of the variety, berries are rarely used for pasta, ketchup, lecho, preferring to admire the perfect forms of whole fruits. The elastic flesh is also a pleasure when eaten straight from the garden.

Ripening and fruiting

The originators declare that the Tiger Cub variety should be classified as a mid-early tomato group. It will take about 105-112 days for the tomatoes to fully fill with juice, but it all depends on the region of growth. In the south, the fruits can ripen earlier, and in the north they often linger. In general, farmers begin harvesting in July. The end of fruiting should be expected in September.

Yield

The tiger cub, despite the fact that its fruits are rather small, gives very high yields.A square meter of open land will give the summer resident as much as 9.3-9.5 kg of berries, and if the plants are cultivated in a shelter, then the indicators will grow to 10 or more kilograms.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

The planting time for seedlings may differ, because the regions of the country have different climates and different times of the arrival of spring. In most cases, the seeds are sown from March 1 to March 15. The time is calculated so that at the time of transfer to the open ground, the plant is 65 days old. These are optimal indicators for seedlings. So it will not stretch too much by the time of planting and will be able to perfectly adapt to new conditions.

The cultivation of seedlings is carried out according to the standard method for all medium-early high-growing varieties. At first, the grains are kept under cover, it must be removed only after the seeds have germinated. And you will also have to provide timely irrigation and feeding. Seedlings will need to be fed several times. For the first time this can be done with organic matter, then it is already necessary to turn to mineral mixtures. If necessary, the tomatoes are supplemented with biolights.

Timely picking is the key to the comfortable growth of future bushes. Seating in separate peat cups is carried out as soon as the second true leaf opens. From this point on, you can slowly harden the seedlings. But on the street they should still be protected from strong winds. In the period from the second half of May to June 5, most gardeners carry out transshipment in open ground. Saplings must be planted together with an earthen clod.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

In order for the Tiger cub bushes to grow and develop well, the variety needs a lot of space. Therefore, there are from 3 to 4 holes per square meter, no more. An equal distance is made between the planting pits - 60 cm, but 50 centimeters are allowed to be left between the rows.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

Tomato Tiger Cub will give the highest yield only on fertile lands. The plant is best planted where the zucchini, carrots, and pumpkin grew in the previous season. Tomatoes of this variety grow very well in places previously populated with herbs and lettuce. The site must receive a sufficient amount of sunlight, otherwise the tomatoes will constantly suffer from fungal diseases.

Watering bushes growing in open ground is recommended at the root. Moreover, this should be done in the morning, so that the earth is well nourished with water during the day. But in greenhouses, most gardeners recommend installing drip irrigation. It is worth considering that with a lack of irrigation, tomatoes will slow down their growth. So, usually the Tiger Cub is watered every 7 days. More frequent watering will only require the period of fruit formation.

It is necessary to lead the Tiger Cub in 1-2 trunks. In the first case, the fruits will be larger, but in the second they will ripen more. The gardener himself will have to choose here. Whichever method is chosen, pinching will become a mandatory procedure. If you do not remove the stepchildren, then the crop will crumble. The shoots are harvested early in the morning, covering the treated areas with garden pitch. If there is too much foliage, it must also be cut off, especially the lower one. Only in this way the tomato will direct all its forces to the fruits.

Like all tall varieties, the Tiger Cub must be tied up. The procedure is carried out only with the stem, tying it to the support. The brushes themselves do not need to be fixed, since they fully support the weight of the fruit.

Top dressing for this variety will be classic. They give the same compositions as for all other varieties of tomatoes. There are no other tricks here.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporiosis, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Review overview

The tiger cub is a truly unique variety of tomatoes, and this is confirmed by many reviews. Vegetable growers love this variety, and not only for its interesting color. Tomatoes like these are delicious, and there are dozens of ways to use them effectively. And the fact that the variety can grow in different conditions only adds to its popularity.

Gardeners note that good yields can only be achieved if the crop is properly looked after. Some summer residents have not been able to avoid diseases. So, a mid-early variety can attack late blight, and it is important to prevent its appearance in time. In other farmers, an aphid invasion was observed, but thanks to timely measures taken, the plantations were saved without damage to the crop.
