Such a romantic name can mean an excellent result in the garden. But in order for the Tarpan tomato to give an attractive harvest, you will have to carefully study its botanical subtleties and nuances of cultivation. And any subtlety deserves a serious analysis.
Breeding history
Tarpan tomatoes are developed by Dutch breeders. The plant is owned by B. V. Nunhems. The crop was officially allowed to be planted in private gardens in 2008. We got it by hybridization.
Description of the variety
Tomato Tarpan - determinant type. Its bushes are undersized (no more than 0.7 m). These plants are outwardly compact. The foliage is colored light green. Average size is typical for them.
The main qualities of the fruit
The share of the marketable crop varies greatly. It can reach from 84 to 97%. Accordingly, the quality of agrotechnical work plays an important role here. And also the significance of weather conditions cannot be ignored. If the berries are marketable, then they will be really good. The decent transportability of the harvested crop should also be emphasized.
Tomatoes will develop on inflorescences of a simple type. Other parameters:
the peduncle is not articulated;
in an unripe state, the crop is colored in a light green tone;
mature tomatoes are pink;
the usual weight of berries is from 67 to 190 g;
the brush contains 4, 5 or 6 tomatoes;
the shape of a flat circle with a weakly pronounced ribbing is typical.
Taste characteristics
Tomato Tarpan is sweetish. Its taste is comparatively rich. Sugar juicy pulp. High density is typical for it. The proportion of dry matter ranges from 5.2 to 6%, and the sugar-acid index ranges from 2.6 to 3%.
Main areas of use:
fresh use;
getting juice;
production of ketchup;
production of tomato paste.
Ripening and fruiting
Tarpan belongs to medium early varieties. The harvest will ripen in 98-105 days. Traditionally, counting begins from the appearance of the first green shoots on the surface. But in a specific case, the weather and agrotechnical work strongly affect the achieved result.
Yield
The ability to produce from 5 to 6 kg of tomatoes per plant is declared. At the same time, the collection per hectare ranges from 266 to 607 centners. Once again, it is worth recalling the importance of weather parameters and work carried out.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Sowing seeds in seedling containers should be done in the first 5-7 days of calendar spring. Seedlings should be started 55-60 days before the approximate planting in the soil. The pick is made at the phase of 2 true leaves.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
It is recommended to plant plants according to the 400x500 mm system. This method is directly prescribed by the suppliers of the planting material. There is simply no point in looking for alternative approaches. It is allowed to place up to 8 bushes on 1 "square" of the site.Such a variety can withstand even a thickened planting.
Growing and care
It is almost never necessary to grow Tarpan bushes. The only exception is the situation of emergency overgrowth. Declared resistance to verticillary lesions and fusarium wilt. However, it is still recommended to protect plants from such infections. It will also be useful to protect against insect pests that love to attack tomato bushes.
Tarpan needs to be watered systematically. Weeding bushes is extremely important. For top dressing, complex mineral fertilizers are mainly used. Prevention of infection and pest infestation quite often includes agrotechnical measures. Correct crop rotation is very important.
The soil for the initial planting is often done by hand, mixing the same quantities:
peat;
sod or garden soil;
washed river sand.
The soil mixture is required to be spilled with fertilizers dissolved in water. Their concentration (in ppm) is:
for potassium sulfate from 25 to 30;
for urea 10;
for superphosphate 30.
Sometimes, store-bought soil is also used. However, the soil should always be thoroughly disinfected before planting. This can be done:
by calcining in an oven or microwave oven;
freezing in refrigerators;
steaming with hot steam;
watering with fungicides and insecticides.
When making up a soil mixture, manure should not be used. You can plant Tarpan tomatoes in containers or in boxes. It is necessary to place the seeds in shallow furrows, where they are sprinkled with soil a little. The surface of the plantings must be moistened with a spray bottle; the containers are covered with plastic wrap or glass.
As soon as shoots arise, the tanks must be rearranged to a decently lit, warm area. The pick is made after the appearance of a pair of true leaves. At the same time, you will have to feed the tomatoes. Before transplanting into open ground, seedlings are supposed to be hardened in the fresh air; transshipment is usually carried out at the end of the threat of spring cold weather.
It is necessary to transplant the culture into heated greenhouses earlier. Seedlings can also be started in peat pots. Then they are transferred to the wells without removing them from the container. Tarpan, like other varieties, is watered exclusively under the root with settled water, preventing moisture from the stems and foliage. Loosening the earth and mulching it is necessary in any case.
Top dressing is used 3 or 4 times during the growing season. In this case, organics and minerals alternate. Sometimes the lateral shoots are pinched after the 4th brush. Protection against negative factors is provided with the help of "Fitosporin-M". Sometimes copper-containing preparations are also used.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
Such a tomato can withstand quite severe cold. It also tolerates dry periods excellently. It is also worth noting that these properties do not allow you to abandon basic protective measures.
Growing regions
Tarpan is well cultivated in the North Caucasus. Growing it there is directly recommended by the suppliers of the planting material. The likelihood of success in more challenging climates is low. However, in the main region, it is necessary to strictly observe the landing time frame and the requirements for meteorological conditions.
Review overview
The yield of this tomato is quite high. The assessments point to the high quality of the berries. There is almost no need to eliminate stepchildren. The cost of planting material is quite tangible. However, low morbidity combined with other benefits offset the increased cost.
