Taimyr is a hybrid tomato variety specially created for cultivation in the north-western regions of the country, as well as in the north and Siberia - in a word, where people are forced to grow their gardens in cold summers and short daylight hours.
Description of the variety
The Taimyr hybrid has been approved for cultivation since 2016 in greenhouses under glass, in extended circulation. Indeterminate strong and open shrub with medium-sized green leaves, simple buds. The sparse greenery provides access to light and good ventilation for the fruit.
The tomato has a high percentage of fruit set and is capable of setting fruit at extremely hot temperatures. Well-developed roots go deep into the soil, this protects them from low temperatures. Tomatoes ripen in bunches of 5–7 pcs. Up to 4 brushes can ripen on a bush.
The main qualities of the fruit
The Taimyr tomato has a flat-round shape with weakly pronounced ribs. The pulp is firm. The fruit is green in the unripe state, the ripe tomato is traditionally red. The number of seed nests is from 4 to 6. The fruits are large, weighing 223–238 g, there are no voids, the fruits in the cluster are all homogeneous.
Taste characteristics
The excellent taste of Taimyr tomatoes is noted. They are versatile in cooking. The first ripe fruits are served freshly cut in salads. When a large number of tomatoes ripen, they are canned in jars, salted in barrels and simply laid for storage.
Ripening and fruiting
The variety is mid-season. Taimyr tomatoes ripen together in the first days of August. If they are brownish from the bush, they will ripen perfectly at home on the windowsill.
Yield
There is an increased yield (above the norm), namely: 28.9–37.6 kg / sq. m.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Taimyr tomatoes are suitable both for growing by the seedling method and for planting seeds directly on the beds in greenhouses and greenhouses. The seedling method is preferable, while it is better to plan the start of growing seedlings in April.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
The optimal planting pattern is 20 × 40 cm.
Growing and care
Due to the average ripening period, the Taimyr variety does not have time to be exposed to diseases that are typical for nightshades in the last month of summer. It is better to tie up the bushes of plants, this will ensure the flow of a sufficient amount of ultraviolet radiation and air. Grasshopping regulates the load level of the bushes.
It is necessary to be careful when fertilizing the Taimyr tomato variety with products containing nitrogen: the bushes can grow very high, and the harvest will suffer. The large-fruited Taimyr tomato can also be grown on substrates in an extended circulation, in a low-volume culture.
After the transplant of the seedlings to a permanent place has been carried out, you need to take care of organizing the first watering in a week or in 10 days. Regular watering is recommended to be carried out in moderation, no more than once a week, if there is no rain.
And also it is necessary to carry out traditional care measures, such as top dressing (in this case, up to 6 times during the growing season), loosening after watering, as well as weeding and weed control.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
Taimyr belongs to hybrid tomatoes, therefore, it demonstrates a fairly high resistance to such ailments as:
- tomato mosaic virus;
- brown spot, or cladosporium;
- fusarium wilting;
- silverness of tomato leaves.
As for the resistance to powdery mildew, it is average.
Growing regions
The hybrid variety Taimyr is included in the State Register of the Russian Federation for the 1st and 3rd light zones. It is recommended to grow in winter glazed greenhouses with extended turnover. Zoned specifically for growing in regions such as North, Central, North-West. However, in other more favorable areas it can be cultivated no less successfully.
