Many cultures are selected according to specific criteria. Supernova's tomato answers most of them.
Breeding history
The variety was bred by French breeders of the HM company. Clause S. A. Year of approval for use - 2017. Supernova tomato is a hybrid belonging to the determinant type of growth. Suitable for growing in many regions of Russia.
The variety can also be found under such names as:
Caste;
Primo Red;
Primo Red.
Description of the variety
Bushes are undersized. On average, the height of the bush is 50 cm for open ground, 80 cm for indoor. Due to its determinancy, the growth of the stem stops on its own when the 5th cluster is formed. The trunk is powerful and thick. The crown is small and compact. There are many leaves, they are small, reminiscent of potato tops. The color is deep green.
Pickling is carried out at will, since the culture is hybrid. Removing excess foliage and shoots is only necessary if you want to get the maximum yield. Although the bush stops growing, it actively forms new leaves and shoots to protect the fruits from excessive sunlight. And this is an additional waste of resources.
Many gardeners recommend keeping the main stem and the side stem. 10 brushes are formed on the main trunk. Each brush forms 4-6 fruits. The inflorescence is of an intermediate type, tied at the 4-leaf level. Yellow buds.
The main qualities of the fruit
Fruits are large, weighing from 281 to 350 g. Rounded in shape, slightly flattened at the stalk and at the top. The berries have a characteristic oblong spout.
The skin is dense, glossy, does not crack either during transportation or processing. The variety has good keeping quality - up to 2-3 months. Fruit color is red when ripe, light green when unripe.
The pulp is medium, not very dense, juicy, fleshy, sugary and not watery. Many chambers are formed inside (8-10). The seeds are medium in size.
The culture belongs to the universal variety. Most often, the fruits are consumed fresh. Can be used for making salads, vegetable jams or juices, less often for whole-fruit pickling and preservation.
Taste characteristics
Supernova berries have unique characteristics. The fruits are very sweet and juicy, with tomato sourness, which does not spoil the taste at all.
Ripening and fruiting
The variety is early maturing, with a ripening period of 87-90 days. Fruiting is extended and occurs from mid-July to August.
Yield
The Supernova tomato is considered a high-yielding crop, 12.5 kg of fruits are removed from 1 m2. And on an industrial scale, the yield reaches 100 tons per hectare.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Sowing is carried out in March. Before this, the seeds are prepared. First, they are washed in melt water, after which they are treated with a solution of potassium permanganate or aloe. And then they are washed again with water. Some gardeners soak seeds in a damp cotton wool and leave them to hatch in a dark place, and only then transplant them into seedling boxes. Others are immediately planted in containers.
The soil in containers should be soft and well fertilized. You can sow both in holes and in trenches. The distance between the seeds in both cases should be 2x3 cm, where the first value is the depth of the fossa.
After sowing, the soil is moistened and the container is covered with foil or glass. Everything is cleaned in a dry and warm place. After the seedlings hatch, the film is removed and the boxes are placed on the windowsill.
Sunlight is very important for seedlings, so you need to monitor this. If the sun is not enough, it is worth resorting to a UV lamp.
You need to water young seedlings once a week. This should be done carefully so as not to overmoisten the soil. Otherwise, the seedlings may become infected with the black leg.
The first pick is carried out when 2 strong leaves are formed at the stalk. The second is when transplanting into open ground.
The bushes should be 50-60 days old at the time of transplanting. Before diving, each bush is inspected for the presence of pests such as whitefly.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
Many gardeners choose a planting scheme of 30x60 cm, taking into account that there will be 4 plants per 1 m2. This is the optimal distance. Since the bushes are compact, they will not interfere with each other. Access to each seedling for processing and harvesting will be opened.
Growing and caring
In order for the seedlings to give a good harvest and the fruits to be healthy, some care rules should be followed.
The first top dressing should be applied two weeks after planting in the ground. Subsequent - in 5-10 days. Among fertilizers, it is best to use potassium, nitrogen, phosphorus, manure, fluoride, bird droppings, and copper sulfate.
Watering is carried out once a week. Only in very dry summers can irrigation be increased.
Mulching is optional. If there is mulch, then the ground around the bushes need not be loosened or weeded.
Daily ventilation of the greenhouse.
Removing extra stepsons and forming a crown.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
