Tomato Octopus cream is a hybrid variety that can become a real gift for every gardener. The plant is not particularly whimsical to grow, it gives good yields even with minimal care. However, some subtleties should also be taken into account.
Breeding history
This variety is a selection novelty, developed on the basis of LLC "Agrofirma Sedek". The breeding works were carried out by A.N. Lukyanenko, S.V. Dubinin, I.N.Dubinina. Approved for use in 2019.
Description of the variety
Indeterminate plant, reaching a height of 200-220 cm, it is often called the "tomato tree". A vigorous bush is very powerful and spreading, resembling a liana. Therefore, he needs a mandatory garter to a support or trellis. The culture has a well-developed root system.
There are a lot of leaves on the bushes, they are long, green in color. The peduncle is articulated. 8-12 tomatoes are formed on the tassel. The harvested crop can be stored for a long time - 1.5 months, without losing its presentation, and calmly transfer transportation.
Among the advantages are:
- high yield rates;
- long fruiting period;
- early ripening;
- strong immunity;
- excellent taste.
There are few disadvantages, but they are:
- picky about the composition of the soil;
- regular feeding is necessary;
- it is preferable to grow in a greenhouse; it is difficult to get a good harvest in the open field.
The main qualities of the fruit
The Octopus bears fruit with small tomatoes, whose weight is only 25-35 grams. Ripening is quite amicable. The shape of the fruit is cylindrical, with slight ribbing. Ripe tomatoes are bright red. The skin is firm and shiny, which protects the tomatoes from cracking.
Taste characteristics
This is a delicious tomato variety. A pleasant, refreshing taste is remembered by everyone who has ever tasted it - a sweetness harmoniously diluted with a slight sourness. The fruits have a universal purpose. They can become a real decoration for a ready-made dish. Their small size also allows them to be used in whole fruit canning.
Ripening and fruiting
The hybrid is early maturing. Full technical maturity occurs on days 100-105. Harvesting begins in the second half of June. Fruiting is long lasting until late autumn.
Yield
The culture is high-yielding. Subject to the correct agricultural techniques from 1 sq. m you can collect about 5.5 kg of fruit.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
The timing of sowing seeds depends on the climatic characteristics of the region. In warm areas, the event starts in mid-March. In cooler areas, time shifts to the end of the first decade of April. For planting seeds, planting containers or separate cups are used. The soil is preferable to use purchased, since the basis of such soil is peat.
Before you start planting seeds, they should be disinfected and a stimulant should be used for better germination. After sowing, they are covered with foil and placed in a warm room. Watering is carried out only with settled water. When the seedlings reach 2-3 leaves in development, the bushes dive. In mid-May, the seedlings can be transferred to a permanent place.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
Powerful "tomato trees" must receive a lot of oxygen and a sufficient amount of nutrients. Therefore, 1 sq. m, you can place no more than 2 bushes. Tomatoes are planted in the soil in a 60 x 40 cm pattern.
Growing and care
The bush forms 2-3 stems. Without the timely removal of the stepsons, the matter is not complete. Irrigation is carried out early in the morning or late in the evening. The best option is drip irrigation, it is impossible for the water to fall on the foliage and stems.
It is also important to loosen the soil in a timely manner. Mineral and organic fertilizers should be applied frequently, at least 4-5 times per season. Initially, it should be nitrogen. Further, the emphasis is placed on phosphorus-potassium dressing.
If grown in a greenhouse, good ventilation is highly recommended to draw out moisture and reduce the risk of mold. Do not forget to deal with weeds, which take a lot of nutrients from the soil. They are fighting with it by weeding.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
Octopus cream has good resistance to infectious diseases typical of tomatoes, especially verticillus, the tobacco mosaic virus. However, for the purpose of prevention, the bushes are sprayed with special preparations from the moment the inflorescences form.
