Gardeners from regions with late spring and cool summer prefer to grow tomatoes with high cold resistance in their gardens. It is to this category that the mid-season Spetsnaz variety belongs, which grows productively in open ground and film greenhouses.

Breeding history

Spetsnaz tomatoes were bred by Novosibirsk breeders under the leadership of V.N. Dederko in 2015. Recorded in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation, and also approved for use in 2017. The main task of the scientists was to create tomatoes that grow in beds that give high yields in regions with risky farming. The nightshade culture is zoned in all climatic zones of Russia.

Description of the variety

Spetsnaz is a medium-sized plant of an indeterminate type, stretching up to 150 cm in height. In film shelters, the bushes reach a height of 170-180 cm.The tomato bush is characterized by medium foliage with light green leaves, moderate branching and a strong central stem with an edge, developed branched roots and simple inflorescences. Inflorescences form on unbranched branches. 3-5 weighty berries are formed in each fruit cluster. The purpose of the variety is salad, but it is also canned, processed and frozen.

When growing Spetsnaz tomatoes, do not forget to follow some of the recommendations of experts - to form bushes in 1-2 stems, remove unnecessary stepsons and tie them to strong supports or trellises.

The main qualities of the fruit

Giant tomatoes are characterized by a deep red color when fully ripe, and light green when unripe. The variety belongs to large-fruited tomatoes. The average weight of a vegetable is 224 g, but, according to gardeners and farmers, the first fruits gain weight up to 1000 grams. The shape of the vegetable is flat-round with slightly pronounced ribbing. Often tomatoes do not take on a very beautiful shape, but the excellent taste smoothes everything out. The peel of tomatoes is shiny, perfectly smooth and quite dense, which is a protection against cracking on the surface of the vegetable. Only tomatoes weighing 900-1000 grams are prone to cracking. In addition, tomatoes tolerate transportation well and can be stored for a long time under appropriate conditions.

Taste characteristics

The taste of Spetsnaz tomatoes is quite balanced. It has a sweetness with a slight sourness. The pulp is dense, fleshy, sugary, very juicy, but not watery. Seeds are practically not felt in the pulp. When cut, there are no white veins and voids. The aroma of the vegetable is fresh, with a spice, inherent in many ripe tomatoes growing in the open field.

Ripening and fruiting

The Spetsnaz variety is mid-season. From full germination of seedlings to the appearance of the first ripe tomatoes on the bushes, 100-105 days pass. A feature of the variety is double fruiting per season: the first - July, early August, and the second - throughout September. The ripening process of tomatoes is extended. In the first wave of fruiting, tomatoes grow larger than in the second.

Yield

A high yield rate is one of the advantages of this variety.Observing all the recommendations for care and cultivation, the plant will certainly thank you with a bountiful harvest. On average, 5.7-5.8 kg of giant tomatoes can ripen per 1 m2. In greenhouses, the yield may be slightly higher.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out 60-65 days before transplanting to the garden. Most often, seedlings are sown in late March, early April. Pre-sowing material is recommended to sort out, removing unusable seeds, and also disinfect. With the right microclimate, the sprouts appear on the 5-7th day. The greenhouse effect provided by glass or polyethylene will help accelerate germination. Further, the cultivation of bushes is carried out at a temperature of 20-23 degrees and constant lighting.

At the stage of 2 real leaves on a bush, you can dive into separate cups. At the age of 45 days, the plant is hardened, exposed daily to fresh air, which will help the bushes quickly and painlessly adapt to new growing conditions.

It is recommended to transplant the bushes to the garden bed at the stage of an already developed root system, the appearance of 6-9 leaves and one flower brush. As a rule, during this period the plant grows to a height of 20-25 cm. Planting of plants is carried out in late May - early June, depending on weather conditions. At this time, the air and soil should be well warmed up. You need to plant bushes in cool or cloudy weather, when there is no scorching sun.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The density and planting pattern of tomato bushes are very important for the growth and development of the crop. No more than 3-4 bushes can be planted per 1 m2. Optimal for planting, according to gardeners, is a 60x65 cm scheme.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

The nightshade culture Spetsnaz loves loose, fertile, fertilized, with neutral acidity, soil. The site should be well lit by the sun, free of grass and weeds. Tomatoes grow well in the area where carrots, radishes, cabbage previously grew. It is not recommended to plant tomatoes in the place where potatoes or eggplants used to grow.

Correct agricultural technology is the key to a bountiful harvest. Comprehensive tomato care includes irrigation with settled water, application of organic and mineral fertilizers, formation and tying of bushes, pinching, prevention of diseases, and loosening of the soil. After the first wave of fruiting, the tops of the bushes are pinched.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic.Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The immune system of the variety is not very strong, so tomatoes can be subject to some diseases - late blight and alternaria. Timely spraying with fungicides will help protect against diseases and viruses. Insecticides will help from the invasion of the whitefly and the Colorado potato beetle. In addition, there are special traps that kill insects (whiteflies). Experienced gardeners plant mustard and calendula near tomato bushes, which also protects against harmful insects.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

Natural and weather disasters practically do not affect the yield and taste of tomatoes. The variety is resistant to sudden drops in temperature, to short-term drought and heat. So that the plant does not suffer from Alternaria, it is imperative to control the moisture level of the soil.

Growing regions

Culture grows and bears fruit in all regions of the country - the Ural, West Siberian, Middle Volga, northern, Central, Far Eastern, Central Black Earth districts. In recent years, Spetsnaz tomatoes have been massively grown in Ukraine and Belarus.
