Sofa is the most promising domestic tomato hybrid, devoid of any significant drawbacks. At the same time, its high yield and excellent taste are noted, which will definitely not leave you indifferent. The culture demonstrates ease of care, is distinguished by reliable immunity at the gene level. We recommend that you pay special attention to its obvious advantages.
Breeding history
The hybrid was obtained in a young seed company "Partner", established in 2014. The work was carried out under the supervision of V. Blokin-Mechtalin. The culture is approved for use in 2021.
Description of the variety
Sofa is a classic red early-maturing (ultra-early) hybrid that combines both early maturity and excellent taste.
The time between the emergence of seedlings and the removal of the first ripe fruits is 80-85 days.
The culture is determinate, medium-sized, with squat and compact bushes with a powerful stem system. It was created for cultivation both in open soils and in sheltered premises. The growth of the main shoot is limited in height - in open soils up to 100 cm, in greenhouses - 15-20 cm higher. The degree of foliage is not intense, medium. The leaf blades are medium-sized, of medium length, green, with a carved configuration typical of Solanaceae.
Experts refer to the pluses of culture:
early maturity of fruits;
synchronicity of tomato ripening;
high yield;
genetically formed immunity against apical rot and good resistance against pathogenic microflora;
the possibility of growing in open and closed soils, in different climatic latitudes;
compactness of culture, allowing rational use of land;
no need to engage in the formation of bushes;
strong peel, which ensures non-cracking of fruits, good keeping quality and transportability;
excellent marketable conditions;
wonderful taste properties;
the versatility of the fruit for the intended purpose.
There are no mentions of specialists about the significant disadvantages of the hybrid. However, there are difficulties in acquiring seeds for this new crop.
The main qualities of the fruit
The average weight of tomatoes is 145 g, but there are also larger specimens. The peel is glossy, thin, but firm and firm, rich red shades in mature fruits (in immature fruits - light green shades). The color of the fruit is monochromatic, without spots in the region of the stalk. They are round in configuration, with weak ribbing.
The consistency is juicy and tender, fine-grained inside, with a bright typical aroma. Seed chambers 3-4, with a small amount of small seeds.
The number of fruits in a brush is up to 5 pcs. The inflorescences are simple, the first is formed above 6-7 leaves, and the next - after 2. The stalks have articulations.
By application, the fruit is of a universal type. Due to their taste, they are suitable for salads and various cuts, good for first and second courses. Good consistency is suitable for the preparation of tomato paste, ketchup, sauces. These fruits are also good for whole-fruit canning, pickling and pickling, since the pulp retains its structure, the peel retains the freshness of its color.
Taste characteristics
The fruit tastes sweet, refreshing, with an unobtrusive sourness.In terms of taste, the culture compares favorably with other early ripening hybrids with its richness and balance.
Ripening and fruiting
Fruit ripening time - 80-85 days. The harvest time is from July to September.
Yield
The yield level is high - up to 10.7 kg / m2, about 5 kg per bush. These indicators are provided by frequently forming fruit clusters.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Seeds are sown for seedlings in March, and seedlings are planted in the soil in April-May.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
A typical planting scheme is 50x50 cm, with a planting density of 4-5 plants / m², 50 x 50 cm.
Growing and care
The quick ripening of the fruits allows them to be planted directly into open soil, however, most gardeners are inclined towards the seedling method of growing. Seedlings 12-15 cm high, with 5-6 true leaves are ready for planting on the beds.
In mid-latitudes, landing dates begin in mid-March, in the south - in the second half of February, in areas with more severe climatic conditions - in late March or early April. The bushes reach the necessary planting parameters in 55-60 days from the time of the emergence of sprouts from seeds.
We recommend planting seeds in separate containers for the convenience of picking in the future. It is more convenient to use peat tablets for this, since the seedlings are not removed from them before planting.
In order for the culture to quickly adapt to new environmental conditions and grow, it is hardened for 10-12 days. The duration of being in the open air is slowly increased from 1-2 to 12-14 hours.
For the beds, open, well-lit and sun-warmed places are selected. The bushes do not suffer from direct sunlight, and they tolerate short-term dry periods.
Water stagnation in the area of the roots is dangerous for the culture, for this reason, the substrate prepared in advance should be light, loose and fertile. Having planted the plants, they are watered at the rate of 1 liter of water per bush.
Crop care is not labor-intensive, the plant is unpretentious.
Irrigation. The soil is moistened every 2-3 days, spending about 3 liters of water per bush (cold and hard water should not be used). The upper layers of the substrate should have time to dry out during the pauses. When growing in open soils, it is important to consider the potential for rainfall. Irrigation methods are not very important, but drops of liquid should not fall on the leaves.
Due to the significant yield, the crop needs systematic feeding. In the process of preparing the beds in the spring, humus and complex fertilizers containing nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus are added to the soil. After 1.5-2 weeks, the bushes are treated with a solution of any mineral nitrogen fertilizer. Then, every 15-20 days, top dressing is carried out with "specialized" purchased formulations for nightshade crops.
Loosening is performed every 7 days, very carefully, since the roots of the plants are located at the surface. Along the way, weeding is carried out (after irrigation).These activities may not be performed if, after planting, mulching the beds.
The culture practically does not need the targeted formation of bushes. But stepchildren should be eliminated. The stems of the bushes are powerful, and therefore we recommend tying them up.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
With the general good genetic resistance of the culture to pathogens, gardeners have noted individual cases of its infection with Alternaria, Fusarium, and some types of mosaic.
From the point of view of preventive measures, it is enough to implement measures for observing correct agricultural practices and competent pre-planting seed treatment with fungicides. Usually, before planting, they are kept for 15-20 minutes in solutions of copper-containing preparations. Treatment with fungicides is also recommended - once every 14 days, including the soil in the beds.
