Cultivars with unusual fruit color or other surprising characteristics stand out from the huge variety of vegetable crops. One of these is the Siberian tiger tomato. The vegetable crop was obtained by selection. This hybrid variety was developed in the USA.
Description of the variety
The hybrid is designed for growing in film greenhouses or in open areas. Growth is indeterminate. The harvest has found widespread use. Fragrant ketchup and tomato paste are prepared from it and used as an ingredient for fresh salads and snacks. Tall bushes grow up to one and a half meters. Leaves of rich green color grow on the shoots. The leaf plates are large and slightly elongated. The green mass is thick and lush.
On one stem, from 6 to 7 clusters are formed, each of which grows from 4 to 6 tomatoes. Within the borders of the southern regions, the tomato is cultivated in open ground, and in central Russia and in the north, it is recommended to plant it in greenhouses. The American hybrid is highly resistant to many tomato diseases.
The main qualities of the fruit
The color of unripe fruits is standard green with a light green tint. Mature vegetables take on a deep pink color with dark purple touches. Thanks to this characteristic, the variety got its name. Large tomatoes gain weight up to 150 grams, but tomatoes weighing up to 300 grams are formed on the first fruit clusters. The shape is round and slightly flattened. Sometimes there are weakly ribbed spherical fruits.
The pulp is colored deep red, the texture is dense and very juicy, sugary in the cut. Tomatoes have good resistance to cracking and shedding. Seed nests with a large number of seeds are formed inside. The vegetables are covered with a thin skin.
Taste characteristics
The taste of ripe tomatoes is noted as harmonious and sweet. He is pleasant and unusual at the same time. Good gastronomic qualities have played an important role in the spread of this culture.
Ripening and fruiting
The Siberian tiger is considered a mid-season hybrid. After the appearance of the first shoots and before harvesting ripe tomatoes, it should take from 110 to 120 days.
Yield
Despite the weight of vegetables and the number of inflorescences with ovaries, the yield is considered good. According to the reviews of gardeners who are personally familiar with this variety, about two kilograms of vegetables are harvested from one plant. In the most comfortable growing conditions, you can achieve more abundant fruiting.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Tomatoes are grown through seedlings, which can be grown on their own. Seedlings are transplanted to a new place only when their age reaches 55-60 days. The seed is sown in containers filled with the prepared soil mixture. Purchased land is sold already cultivated and ready for use. For germination, both large and compact containers are used.
To prepare the mixture with your own hands, you need to mix compost, rotted manure and turf soil in equal proportions. Then disinfection is required. The soil is calcined using a hot pink manganese solution or at a temperature of 55 to 60 degrees Celsius.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
The minimum distance between the bushes should be 50 centimeters. No more than 4 plants are planted on one square meter of territory. Do not thicken the site too much. This will lead not only to a decrease in the quality of the crop, but also to a long growing season. The crop will ripen two weeks later than usual.
Growing and care
After the first shoots have become noticeable, the seedlings need to be given the following care.
Bushes, especially when grown in a greenhouse, do not tolerate high levels of humidity. Plants are watered infrequently, but abundantly. Excess moisture, like a prolonged drought, negatively affects yields and can cause the death of a tomato. It is recommended to ventilate the room periodically.
Both organic and complex formulations are suitable as dressings. Tomatoes respond well to such nutritious fertilizers. In the first half of the growing season, fertilizing with a high nitrogen content is used. When the second half comes, they switch to compositions rich in potassium and phosphorus.
If the seedlings began to be grown in a large container, a pick is carried out over time. Plants are planted in separate cups, but only after the formation of the second true leaf. By the time the bushes are transferred to a permanent cultivation place, each plant should have 5 leaves.
The most important procedures are weeding and loosening. They are necessary for the full development of young seedlings. The soil is loosened after watering.
Plants need enough light. If natural lighting is not enough, special phytolamps are used.
Do not forget about caring for the bushes after they are transferred to the ground. It is customary to prepare a plot for a vegetable crop in the fall. The territory is dug up and fed. If it was not possible to complete the work at this time of year, you can start preparing in the spring.
Planting holes are watered with a hot pale pink solution of potassium permanganate. It will destroy harmful bacteria and disinfect the ground. A handful of wood ash is sent to each pit. This component will feed young plants as they adapt to a new place.
Immediately after transplanting, the soil is watered and covered with a layer of mulch, which will prevent weeds from growing and will maintain a comfortable level of humidity. If organic matter is used as mulch, it will additionally nourish the bushes.
The lower leaves and stepsons growing up to the first fork are removed. When growing a Siberian tiger hybrid, molding into one or two stems is mandatory. For outdoor use, you can leave up to three stems. In order for the vegetables to receive a sufficient amount of sunlight, the green mass is periodically thinned out. And also this procedure is needed for full air circulation.Be sure to get rid of dry, limp and damaged leaves.
Bushes in greenhouses are pinched. This simple manipulation will help the nutrients to be evenly distributed throughout the bush and form a quality crop. And also a garter of shoots is carried out.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
