For summer residents and farmers from the northern regions with cold and short summers, it is not so easy to find a type of tomato that will be easy to grow and productive in a short time. These include the mid-season variety Siberian Trump, which grows both in the garden and in greenhouses.
Breeding history
A tomato species was bred by Siberian breeders O. V. Postnikova and V. N. Dederko in 2005. Two years later (in 2007) the Siberian Trump culture joined the ranks of the Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation, and was also approved for use. The tomato species is recommended for cultivation in all regions of the country, especially in the northern part, where the summer is short and cool.
Description of the variety
Mid-season tomatoes Siberian Trump is a low-growing determinant plant that stretches up to 80 cm in height. The bush is characterized by spreading branches, medium foliage with dark green leaves, an erect central stem without a fringe, a powerful root system that supplies nutrients to the plant, and simple inflorescences. In each fruit cluster, 6 to 14 tomatoes are tied.
When growing, it is recommended to form a bush of 1-2 stems, regularly pinch and tie to supports, otherwise the trunk and branches will bend and break off under weighty berries. The purpose of tomatoes is universal, but most often they are eaten fresh, in salads, and also processed into dressings, pasta, mashed potatoes. Tomato is not suitable for juices, because the drink is too thick.
The main qualities of the fruit
The vegetable belongs to the group of large-fruited, gaining weight on average from 220 to 700 grams. The largest fruits grow in the lower part of the bush. The shape of the vegetable is flat-round, with a noticeable ribbing of the walls. Ripe tomato has a bright red color, sometimes with raspberry hues, and in a state of immaturity, the vegetable is light green. The tomato skin is thin, but strong, so the vegetable easily tolerates transportation and can be stored for a long time without losing its presentation. Tomatoes are not prone to cracking.
Taste characteristics
The tomato has a delicious taste, for which many summer residents appreciate it. The pulp of tomatoes is fleshy, very dense and juicy. Ripe tomato is endowed with bright scarlet pulp, where there are practically no seeds. The taste of the vegetable is dominated by sweetness and sugariness, complemented by a barely felt sourness. The aroma of the vegetable is of medium intensity, with dessert-spicy notes.
Ripening and fruiting
This tomato species belongs to the mid-season varieties. From the period of mass germination to ripe berries on the clusters, 110-115 days pass. Ripening at the Siberian Trump is amicable. The growing season of the plant is prolonged and can last until autumn. It is not recommended to leave ripe berries on the branches for a long time, as they will lose their taste and take away nutrients from the plant.
Yield
The variety has a high yield even in bad weather conditions. If you follow the basic rules of care, you can collect from 8.3 kg of tomatoes per 1 m2. In practice, 5 to 7 kg of ripe tomatoes are removed from one bush per season.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out 50-60 days before transplanting the bushes to the garden. This is often the second half of March.Seeds are pre-sorted, disinfected, treated with a growth stimulant. Seedling germination is observed in a week. With the appearance of 2-3 leaves, a dive is carried out in separate cups. For 101-115 days before the transfer of plants, they are subjected to hardening, which will soften the process of getting used to new conditions.
Bushes are planted on the garden bed at the stage of appearance of 6-8 leaves and one flower brush. Disembarkation begins in the second half of May.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
When planting tomatoes, you need to observe the density and planting pattern, on which the comfortable growth of the culture depends. It is worth placing 3 bushes per 1 m2. The optimal layout for planting is 70x60 cm.
Growing and care
The culture loves fertile and weed-free soil, in which the necessary moisture is constantly retained. In addition, the site should be well lit by the sun or light.
The variety does not require complex agricultural technology, but a number of measures will have to be performed: watering (it is better to provide drip irrigation), apply fertilizers, weed and mulch the soil, form and tie up bushes, remove stepchildren, tear off the lower leaves so that there is no accumulation of dampness, and also protect against insects.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
Siberian Trump tomatoes are resistant to most nightshade diseases, in particular, fusarium wilt and top rot. The only thing that the culture is susceptible to is late blight, which periodic prevention will help to prevent.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
In general, the culture is very hardy, therefore it tolerates both cold and heat well. In addition, neither drought nor prolonged rains have a negative impact on tomatoes.
