This Siberian hardy culture quickly gained popularity among gardeners in many regions of Russia. Easily and naturally, she is able to withstand low temperatures, bringing abundant harvests even during rainy and cold summers. Despite the fact that the main parameters of the culture are typical for standard varieties, the special attention of gardeners is attracted by the compactness of the plants with their excellent yield.
Breeding history
The Siberian dwarf culture appeared in trade in 2018. The well-known company "Siberian Garden", which specializes in plants grown in local climatic conditions, became the originator. The variety is original in that it turned out to be stress-resistant and plastic, which attracted the attention of gardeners in many other regions of Russia.
Description of the variety
The culture is dwarf, compact, stocky, grows up to 25-35 cm, excellent for growing both in open soils and in greenhouses. The variety is standard, with powerful stems, similar to tree trunks. Leaves are relatively small in size, typical configuration. The leafiness is medium.
Of the many advantages of culture, we note:
high adaptive potential of the plant;
versatility in growing conditions;
lack of agrotechnical difficulties in care, unpretentiousness;
lack of exactingness to the quality of illumination during the management of seedlings, as well as after planting in the beds;
reliable immune protection;
the possibility of growing up without garters, forming and eliminating stepchildren;
short terms and synchronism of crop ripening;
compactness of bushes, which provides an opportunity for considerable savings in productive space;
high level of productivity;
excellent presentation, large sizes of fruits and their one-dimensionality;
the versatility of the fruit for its intended purpose and good taste;
good level of transportability and keeping quality.
Although no obvious flaws in culture have yet been identified, experts note:
the need for regular plant feeding;
the relative novelty of the variety had a negative impact on the possibilities of purchasing seed material;
the presence of an extremely small number of seeds in fruits and their frequent underdevelopment.
The main qualities of the fruit
Fruits of an oval configuration. Relative to the bushes, they ripen rather large - weighing up to 200 g. The peel of the fruit is strong, dense, traditionally red, with a glossy sheen. The consistency is dense, fleshy, coarse-grained inside. Inflorescences are laid in 1-2 leaves. Seed voids 3-4, with small seeds, little perceptible in the process of eating. The fruits have a wonderful presentation.
Ripe tomatoes are especially tasty not only freshly picked, but also in salads and slices. Often and willingly they are added to the first and second courses, sauces, ketchups, and pastas are prepared from them.
Taste characteristics
In terms of taste, the fruits are very harmonious - light sweet notes are perfectly combined with a barely perceptible sourness. They contain a lot of saccharides.
Ripening and fruiting
The culture is medium early, with a ripening period of 100-105 days. Fruits are usually harvested from July to September.
Yield
Bushes with a carpal type of fruiting, ovaries are formed often, which provides an excellent degree of yield - up to 4 kg per bush per season (8-9 kg / m²). The culture is high-yielding.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Sowing for seedlings is carried out in January-March, and seedlings are planted in the ground in May.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
The standard landing pattern is 50 x 50 cm.
Growing and care
Due to the Siberian climatic specifics, the plant is grown by the seedling method. It takes 5-6 weeks for bushes with 3-4 true leaves to grow. Good quality lighting is not a major growth factor for a crop - it also feels comfortable in shaded areas. Much more important is the quality of the substrate, the degree of its fertility, lightness and friability. Preferred neutral or slightly acidic soils. For this reason, during the digging of the beds (about 1.5-2 weeks before planting the seedlings), humus and a complex of fertilizers are added to the soil.
The requirements for irrigation of plants are similar to the requirements of any standard crops with a surface root system - about 3-4 liters per bush. However, the soil should not dry out to a depth of more than 2-3 cm. If there is a lack of rain, the crop is irrigated after 3-5 days.
Mulching is a popular procedure, it reduces labor costs for loosening and weeding, which reduces the risk of root damage.
Top dressing of the variety is carried out according to the scheme:
11.5 weeks after planting seedlings in the soil;
further after 14 days;
then after the 1st harvest.
The best means for the culture are fertilizers bought in stores, providing the bushes of plants with the necessary complexes of fertilizers.
This dwarf variety does not feel the need for molding, removing stepchildren, garter.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding.This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
The level of resistance to fungal and viral diseases, as well as harmful attacks in the culture is quite effective. Due to the rather short ripening time of fruits, the risk of late blight infection is minimized.
Infection with pathogenic microflora is not typical for the culture. It also has effective resistance to fungi.
Of the additional preventive measures, we point out the relative need for seed treatment in a fungicide solution (before planting them on seedlings). It will not be superfluous to use copper-containing elements for processing (every 10-14 days) bushes and soil in the beds, when the vagaries of the weather contribute to the occurrence of diseases.
After the formation of ovaries against diseases and pest attacks, the treatment is carried out exclusively with compounds of biological origin.
