For regions with cool summers, many types of tomatoes have been created, which manage to yield the harvest as quickly as possible, but not all nightshades are characterized by excellent taste and simple agricultural technology. One of the most productive with incredibly tasty fruits is the mid-season tomato variety Siberian Troika.
Breeding history
The variety with delicious tomatoes was bred by a group of Novosibirsk scientists headed by V.N.Dederko in 2003. Tomato joined the ranks of the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation in 2004. At the same time, the culture was approved for use. The maximum yield is observed when growing tomatoes in the open field. The plant is cultivated in greenhouses only in areas with harsh climatic conditions. The tomato is zoned in all regions of Russia.
Description of the variety
Varietal tomato Siberian troika is a low-growing shrub of the standard type, growing up to 60 cm.In a greenhouse, the plant can stretch up to 70-90 cm.The determinant plant is characterized by a good thickening of dark green leaves, a thick and stable stem, a developed root system that feeds the plant, and inflorescences of a simple type. The first fruit cluster is formed above the 9th leaf, where from 5 to 10 berries are formed. On a healthy bush, 5-6 fruit clusters are formed.
When growing a plant, experienced gardeners recommend forming a bush in 2-4 stems, as well as removing extra stepsons to the first inflorescence. In addition, it is necessary to remove excess foliage, as well as tie up the brushes, since they can sag under the weight of the fruit, and then the tomatoes, once on the ground, will rot.
The main qualities of the fruit
The Siberian Troika tomato is a large-fruited cylindrical vegetable with a pronounced spout at the top. On average, the weight of the fruit is about 200 grams with a length of up to 13-15 cm. It is characteristic that the tomatoes of the first fruit cluster are slightly larger than all subsequent ones. The tomato color is classic - deep red. In a state of immaturity, the vegetable has a light green color with no visible spot at the base, and then turns brown and red.
The tomato skin is smooth, with a slight sheen. Due to their moderate density and elasticity, tomatoes do not crack, they tolerate transportation well and can be stored for quite a long time at the correct temperature. The purpose of the variety is universal, so tomatoes are eaten fresh, canned, frozen, processed. The vegetable is especially good for whole-fruit canning. In addition, the fruit is resistant to cracking.
Taste characteristics
The excellent taste of the vegetable is one of the virtues of the tomato variety. The pulp of tomato is fleshy, firm, moderately juicy, with a small amount of seeds. The taste is dominated by pleasant sweetness, harmoniously complemented by a spicy aroma. The flesh of the vegetable is light scarlet. The pulp of tomatoes contains a huge amount of vitamin C, lycopene and other useful components. With excessive moisture, the sugar content of the vegetable can be replaced by sourness and wateriness.
Ripening and fruiting
The variety is mid-season.From the moment of full germination of seedlings until the appearance of red berries on the bushes, 110-115 days pass. Tomatoes spice up gradually, so fruiting is somewhat delayed. The peak ripening of a large number of berries occurs in July-August, but the timing may shift due to the weather conditions of the growing region. In regions with warm and long summers, the fruits ripen on bushes until early autumn.
Yield
This type of tomato is high-yielding. With proper agricultural technology, up to 6 kg of sweet tomatoes can be harvested from 1 m2. Many gardeners who have been growing this crop for several years claim that one bush gives about 5 kg of tomatoes.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Sowing seeds for seedlings should be in the second half of March (55-60 days before transplanting to the garden). The seeds are pre-sorted, disinfected and treated with growth stimulants. For healthy growth of bushes, you will need a favorable temperature and light regime in the room - 20-23 degrees and lighting for 12-14 hours a day. The greenhouse effect provided by glass or polyethylene will help accelerate germination. As a rule, the germination phase begins on the 5-7th day.
At the stage of appearance of 2-3 leaves on a bush, plants can be planted in separate pots. For 10-14 days, it is necessary to begin to prepare the seedlings for transplanting to the garden, exposing them to fresh air every day. In the period from late May to early June, seedlings are planted in open ground. If you have to grow tomatoes in a greenhouse, then you can plant the bushes 10-14 days earlier. By the time of transplanting into open ground, the bush should have 8-9 true leaves and a strengthened root system. The height of the bush usually reaches 18-20 cm.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
The yield indicators and the taste of fruits are influenced not only by proper care, but also by adherence to the density and planting pattern of seedlings. It is recommended to plant from 3 to 5 bushes per 1 m2, which will provide the plant with air and sun access. The optimal layout for planting is 50x40 cm.
Growing and care
The vegetable culture is grown in a seedling way. The area for tomatoes should be peeled, fertilized, loose, breathable and fertile. In addition, tomatoes love warmth, so the area should be well lit by the sun.
The plant is unpretentious in care, but the standard rules of agricultural technology must be observed: watering with settled water, applying mineral and organic fertilizers, loosening the soil, forming and tying bushes to supports, partial pinching, protection from insects and viruses.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
The variety has resistance to the main diseases of the nightshade, but the variety is susceptible to top rot. With prolonged rains, tomatoes can also be exposed to late blight, which will help to get rid of special preparations.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
The strain's resistance to stress is at a high level. Growing up, the plant does not respond to drought, heat, sudden changes in temperature, short-term shade. In addition, the tomato is not afraid of short torrential rains. Undesirable natural factors for culture are drafts and gusty winds.
Growing regions
This type of tomato is able to grow and bear fruit in almost all regions of Russia - the Ural, Far Eastern, Central, Northern, Middle Volga, North Caucasian, East Siberian, as well as the Central Black Earth region,
Review overview
The mid-season tomato Siberian troika is massively grown both in gardens and on farmlands. The popularity of the variety is due to unpretentious care, quick adaptation to climatic conditions, excellent taste and marketability of tomatoes, as well as versatility of purpose. From the disadvantages of culture, one can single out the fact that the fruits grow in different shapes.
