Juicy, ripe, bright tomatoes. It even sounds delicious. Not surprisingly, many gardeners love growing tomatoes. The problem is that choosing from the abundance of tomato varieties that exists on the market that is suitable for your region and suits you entirely in terms of its yield and taste is not such an easy task. Below we will talk about one of the popular domestic varieties - the Monomakh Hat. Perhaps this is the one for you.

Breeding history

Monomakh's hat is a Russian variety introduced since 2003 and created for regions with a cold and unstable climate.

Description of the variety

Tomato bushes of this variety reach 90-130 cm in height. Their shoots are not very dense, soft leaves are large, dark green. The peduncle of the Monomakh's Cap is articulated, and the inflorescences are simple.

The main qualities of the fruit

But the main decoration of the variety is the fruit. Pinkish-red, crimson, slightly flattened, with slight ribbing. They are large - the mass of fruits is 600-900 g, and some can reach a kilogram. Inside the fruit is dense pulp and up to 8 seed chambers.

Taste characteristics

As for the taste, it is sweetish, with a slight tinge of sour. The fruits of the tomato Monomakh's cap are sugar and juicy, with a distinct aroma.

The variety is good when used fresh, for all kinds of salads. But it is also applicable for making, for example, juice.

Ripening and fruiting

Monomakh's cap is one of the mid-early varieties. From germination to maturation, 90-110 days pass.

Yield

If the bushes are properly looked after, then it is quite possible to get from 6 to 8 kg of tomatoes from one bush.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

They begin to sow the seedlings in early spring, focusing on the weather outside. Tomatoes Monomakh's hat are ready for planting in a greenhouse or open ground in about 60-65 days. But first, these seedlings must be properly grown.

All seeds should be examined and those that have visible damage should be discarded.

Selected seeds should be immersed in saline for 5-10 minutes. Those that sink to the bottom are suitable for landing.

Further, the seeds should be disinfected in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Keeping the seeds there takes from 20 minutes to half an hour.

Disinfected seeds can be left for two days at a temperature of about 27 degrees in a damp cloth.

You need to prepare not only seeds, but also containers for them. It also needs decontamination, after which they need to be filled with potting soil.

You need to plant seeds to a depth of 1-2 cm, and the distance between two future bushes should not be less than 3 cm.

After planting, the soil should be moistened with a spray bottle.

The container with the seeds should be covered with foil and kept at a temperature of about 24 degrees.

After the 3rd leaf, the seedlings must be sorted, and viable samples must be planted in a separate container each.

The first feeding with a nitrogen-containing composition should be done about 10 days after "settling" in separate containers.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all.All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

It is necessary to resettle the Monomakh Hat into the ground when the air temperature does not consistently fall below +16 degrees. Tomatoes should be planted in an area with already neutralized acidity, in prepared and fertilized beds, in the evening or on a cloudy day.

When "moving" seedlings to a permanent place for 1 square. It is recommended to place up to 4 plants per meter of the prepared area. Planting pattern: 50 x 60 cm. Landing plots from north to south are being formed.

The best planting scheme for the variety is as follows.

  • For 1 m2 - up to 4 bushes.

  • The distance between the rows is about 0.6 m.

  • The distance between the bushes is 0.5 m.

  • Planting depth - up to 0.2 m.

After planting, the tomatoes must be watered and left alone for about a week, allowing them to settle down in a new place.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

You can grow a Monomakh Hat both in the open field and in a greenhouse, although the first option is considered preferable. To obtain a bountiful and healthy harvest, the following guidelines should be followed.

  • Root watering is better for the variety than furrow watering.

  • The average frequency of watering is up to 3 times a week.

  • Water the tomatoes with warm water.

  • In order for the liquid to penetrate deeper into the soil and stay in it, the soil should be loosened and mulched.

  • The first bud formed on the bush in the inflorescence must be removed.

  • Fruiting is also positively affected by pinching. Moreover, the stepsons need to be carefully cut off, and not broken off.

  • Gardeners are advised to leave no more than 3 ovaries on one brush so that the fruits are larger.

  • When you reach a height of 1.2 m, it is recommended to pinch the top of the bush.

As with many varieties of tomato, the correct garter is especially important for the Monomakh Hat. You can tie the bushes to the support right after they are transplanted into the ground. The best garter format is 2 stems. The stepson located below the first flower cluster will serve as the second trunk of the bush. It is better to remove the rest.

You can understand that serious mistakes have been made in the care by cracking the fruit.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

Monomakh's cap is a variety with a high level of resistance to most nightshade diseases. Including the variety has good protection against late blight.

As for insects, the variety is susceptible to attacks by wireworms and ticks. If you do not want to immediately resort to chemistry to fight the latter, you can try using a decoction of onion peels.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

Monomakh's hat is a variety that is resistant to climatic influences. It tolerates frost and short dry periods well.

Growing regions

The variety was created for Siberia and other regions with a cold climate, but cultivation in warmer regions is also permissible.

Review overview

Most of the reviews about the variety are positive. It is planted primarily as a tomato used in salads. They note the size and density of the fruits, however, they note that in cold regions it may be slightly below the average of the variety.

Tomatoes are stored well due to their dense pulp. There are no problems with transportation either.

Another important plus that many gardeners talk about is the unpretentiousness of the Monomakh Hat in care. The only thing the majority pays their attention to is that in no case should the growth of bushes be allowed to drift. He is very fast and active. If you do not remove the excess, this will prevent the fruits from gaining weight, and the bushes themselves from receiving nutrients and sunlight.

We can say that Monomakh's Hat is a fairly versatile and easy-to-grow variety, capable of delighting with its juicy fruits, not making it "dance" around its bushes all season.
