Many gardeners and farmers try to grow different varieties of tomatoes on their plots, which allows harvesting throughout the season. One of the most popular and loved ones is the mid-early Sensei tomato variety, which grows well in regions with short summers.

Breeding history

This tomato species was created by a group of breeders from Siberia, whose goal was to develop a variety that could give abundant harvests with berries endowed with excellent taste in a short growing season. Sensei tomatoes have not yet been included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation, however, despite this, the variety is in demand and is loved by many.

Description of the variety

The Sensei nightshade culture is a determinant medium-sized plant, stretching up to 150 cm in height. A powerful bush is endowed with a moderate thickening of green mass, a strong central stem without edges, a developed root system and a complex type of inflorescences. In each formed fruit cluster, 3-5 tomatoes are tied.

When growing a culture, it is necessary to form bushes of 1-2 stems, be sure to tie up, and also carry out regular removal of stepchildren. The purpose of tomatoes is universal, so tomatoes are eaten fresh, canned and processed into ketchup, dressings, mashed potatoes. In addition, tomatoes can be removed from bushes in an unripe form, since they ripen well in a dark room.

The main qualities of the fruit

Tomato Sensei is a representative of the class of large-fruited tomatoes, endowed with a beautiful shape and bright color. The berry is characterized by weight - on average, the weight of the fruit is 450 grams, but it grows to 500-600 g. The shape of the tomato is oblong-heart-shaped with obvious ribbing at the base. In a state of full ripeness, the tomato is covered with a uniform crimson color or red-crimson, and in an unripe form, light green. The tomato is covered with a smooth, moderately dense skin that protects against cracking, and also allows the fruit to be transported and stored for a long time.

Taste characteristics

Sensei tomatoes are characterized by excellent taste. The pulp of the fruit is fleshy, dense, juicy, practically without seeds. The taste of the tomato is bright - the dominant sweetness and sugar content are harmoniously complemented by light sourness. In addition, the berries have a pronounced dessert aroma.

Ripening and fruiting

The Sensei variety is medium early. From full germination to the appearance of ripe tomatoes on the bush, 100-105 days pass. The ripening period is somewhat delayed, therefore, tomatoes can be removed until mid-autumn, if weather conditions permit. Tomatoes are ripened gradually, so they do not interfere with each other. The most fruitful period is July-August, when the largest amount of juicy fruits is harvested. During the active fruiting phase, the tomatoes are the largest, and then they become slightly smaller.

Yield

The yield indicators of the medium early Sensei variety are quite high. Subject to all standard care rules, the nightshade crop will certainly respond with a bountiful harvest. On average, 7-10 kg of tomatoes can be removed from 1 m2 per season.Gardeners note that under favorable conditions, up to 8 kg of ripe and weighty tomatoes are collected from one bush.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

The vegetable is grown in seedlings. Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out in February-March (60 days before transplanting to a new place of growth). The seed is pre-sorted and soaked. After sowing, you can provide a greenhouse effect to the seeds, which will speed up the emergence of sprouts. For healthy growth, the plant will need special temperature conditions (+ 20 ... 23 degrees) and a sufficient amount of light (more than 14 hours a day).

At the stage of appearance of 2-3 leaves on a bush, a dive can be carried out (planting bushes in separate cups). Peat tablets and coconut substrate have a positive effect on the growth and development of seedlings. Before transplanting, the bushes need to be hardened, gradually accustoming to the wind, air and sun.

It is possible to transfer the bushes to the garden or to the greenhouse when the plant reaches a height of 20-25 cm, while the root system of the seedlings is well-formed and a sufficient number of leaves have grown. As a rule, planting of seedlings is carried out in late May - early June. At this time, the soil and air should be warmed up, and the nighttime drops in temperature should be left behind. If there is a chance of nighttime cold snaps, then the bushes are covered with agrofibre at night.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

Along with agricultural technology, when planting and growing crops, it is worth considering the density and planting pattern of seedlings. There are 3-4 plants per 1 m2. The correct scheme for landing is considered to be a 30x50 cm scheme.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

For the cultivation of a vegetable crop Sensei is considered the best soil loose, fertile and with neutral acidity. It is not recommended to plant tomato seedlings in the same place every year. The worst predecessors for tomatoes are potatoes and peppers, and the best are cabbage, cucumber, beets and carrots. Sensei tomatoes do not require special agricultural techniques, but standard measures need to be carried out - watering with settled / warm water, applying top dressing, loosening and mulching the soil, forming and tying a bush, removing unnecessary stepchildren, as well as protecting against insects and viruses. Greenhouses should be ventilated to control humidity.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The plant has a high immune system. Tomato is resistant to many diseases that affect nightshade crops - Alternaria, tobacco mosaic virus, late blight, Fusarium wilting. Protection against infestation of pests can be ensured by using special spray solutions (insecticides). Liquid ammonia will help get rid of slugs.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

The variety has an excellent ability to quickly adapt to different weather conditions. The plant tolerates sharp temperature fluctuations, short droughts and heat, as well as light shade. The only thing the plant is poorly protected from is gusty wind and drafts.

Growing regions

The culture is capable of growing and bearing fruit in any climatic region. In the southern strip, tomatoes are grown in open ground, in conditions of risky farming and in regions with short summers - in heated and film greenhouses.

Review overview

Despite the fact that the tomato variety is not listed in the State Register and is quite new, it managed to attract the attention of both gardeners and farmers growing crops for commercial purposes. Such popularity is due to the fact that the variety is unpretentious in care, gives rich and stable yields, and quickly adapts to the climate. Among the shortcomings, one can point out the need for a constant garter and the removal of unnecessary stepsons.
