The new Pink Honey variety has already gained popularity among gardeners. It is characterized by drought resistance and high productivity. The fruits set well, are large in size with a characteristic delicate sweet taste. Suitable for fresh consumption, for making juice, tomato paste. Ideal for dietetic food, as they have low acidity.
Breeding history
The variety was bred by Novosibirsk breeders V.N. Dederko, O. V. Postnikova, entered into the State Register in 2006.
Description of the variety
Bushes 60-70 cm high, not very strong, medium leafy. The type of growth is determinate, but often shows semi-determinate features, growing up to 1.5 meters in a greenhouse. Leaves are medium, dark green. The inflorescence is simple, about 3 large and up to 10 small tomatoes can be tied on one flower cluster. Tomatoes on the first clusters are very large, on subsequent ones they become smaller.
The variety is suitable for open and closed ground. It is grown by seed and seedlings. Seeds are planted in beds only in warm climates. In moderate, seedlings must be pre-prepared. The exception is heated greenhouses.
The main qualities of the fruit
Large size, weighing 160-200 g, can grow up to 600 g and even more than 1 kg. The shape ranges from truncated cordate to rounded with small ribs. There is a dark spot near the stalk. Ripe pink with a moire tint, thin skin. The pulp is fleshy, juicy. There are practically no seeds, they are small in size. The shelf life of tomatoes is about 10 days.
Taste characteristics
The pulp is sweet, aromatic and tender, there is no sourness. The taste is excellent.
Ripening and fruiting
Mid-season in terms of ripening: 110 days pass from the first shoots to harvest. To obtain larger fruits, 4-5 brushes are left on the plant, and the tops are pinched.
Yield
From one bush during the summer, you can collect from 4 to 6 kg. It is better to remove tomatoes in a timely manner, as they are prone to cracking.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
They are planted for seedlings 50-60 days before planting in the garden. For seed germination, a temperature of 23-25 degrees is required. Seeds are sown in the middle lane in mid-April-early May, in the south - in mid-to-late February.
The material for sowing is soaked in a slightly pink solution of potassium permanganate, and the soil is watered with it for planting. The mixture should include garden soil, sand and humus in a 2: 1: 1 ratio.
They are planted in separate containers or in large boxes. When sprouts appear, they are transferred to a bright place (the best option is round-the-clock illumination), the ideal temperature for them is +20 degrees, then the temperature is gradually reduced - daytime to +16, night to 14 degrees. Water once a week. Then the seedlings are returned to a warm room, illuminated for 12-14 hours.
The variety Pink honey is prone to stem elongation, it is regulated by means of intense illumination and a decrease in temperature during the day to +18, at night +10. By the time of planting in the ground, the plants should already have 7 leaves. The night before planting, the seedlings are recommended to be watered abundantly.
They are planted in greenhouses in early May, and in open beds - 3 weeks later: in a temperate climate - in the first days of June, and in the southern regions - in mid-May.
Tomato grows well on saline soils. It is not recommended to plant after other nightshades (potatoes, peppers, eggplants), fungal spores and pests can remain in the soil.
In the soil must be applied to 1 sq. m: peat - 2 kg, humus - 1 bucket, ash - 2-3 handfuls, superphosphate and potassium sulfate - 1 tsp. The seedlings are deepened to the growth line of the first leaves. Watered with 4 liters of water per 1 plant, then only after 10 days.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
Place 3 seedlings per 1 sq. They are planted in a checkerboard pattern or in a row at a distance of 30-40 cm, with an interval of 50-60 cm between rows. Watering holes are dug nearby, usually one per 4 seedlings. This method of irrigation is most effective for a greenhouse.
With the seed method of planting, the holes are made at a distance of 40-50 cm with a depth of about 5 cm. 3-5 seeds are sown in each, sprinkled with earth, watered, covered with a film, which is removed after the sprouts appear.
Growing and care
The tomato necessarily requires a garter, a trellis with a height of one and a half meters is installed next to the garden bed. Not only the stem is tied to the support, but also the branches with the fruits. The bush is formed into 2 stems. The stepchildren are removed under all flower brushes every 10 days. The lower leaves should not come into contact with the soil: they are tied up or removed.
The Pink Honey variety begins to set flowers and bear fruit only at a temperature of 20-25 degrees. When the thermometer rises to +35, the flowers are not pollinated.
Pink tomatoes require frequent watering: 2 times every 7 days, 2 liters per bush. With a lack of moisture, the leaves on the tomatoes curl up in a boat. During flowering, watering is reduced to 1 time in 7 days, up to 5 liters are poured under one plant.
During the period of fruit formation, watering is increased up to 2 times a week, then it is again reduced to 1 time - this is done to prevent cracking.
Weeds must be removed and loosened regularly. Greenhouses must be ventilated, and the bushes must be gently shaken, dumping excess moisture.
During the season, they feed about 3 times:
- 2 weeks after planting - diluted in 10 liters of water 10 g of potassium sulphide and 20 g of superphosphate;
- after another 2-3 weeks - with a solution of chicken manure of 500 g per 10 liters of water and 1 tsp. potassium sulfate;
- The third feeding is done after another 2-3 weeks - 500 g of mullein and 1 tbsp are dissolved in 10 liters of water. l. nitrophosphate.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
Preventive treatment for fungal diseases is imperative. The variety has an average resistance to rot and late blight. Wood ash is able to protect against pests (aphids, Colorado potato beetle) and prevent late blight. Usually it is scattered on the garden bed around the bush and the leaves are sprinkled, but you can make a solution for spraying - 100 g of ash are diluted in 10 liters of water, insisted for 3 hours, add 50 g of grated laundry soap and spray the leaves with shoots.
For brown spot and late blight, they are treated with Bordeaux liquid or an aqueous solution with the addition of lime and copper sulfate (10 l + 75 g + 100 g). The first treatment is carried out before flowering, the second - during flowering, and the third - during fruit setting. For 1 sq. m will require 200 ml of the composition.
Growing regions
The variety is suitable for growing in all regions of Russia: in warm climates it grows well in open beds, in temperate climates - in greenhouses or hotbeds.
Review overview
Often gardeners, choosing varieties, fear that Pink Honey is prone to frequent diseases, but preventive treatments and regular airing bring good results - tomatoes do not get sick. Summer residents do not really like the fact that there are few seeds in tomatoes and not all of them germinate. Another tomato often infects the Colorado potato beetle. It is noted that the bush is rather weak and the brushes can break off under a large harvest.
There are many positive reviews about tomato: I like the taste and size of the fruit, they note that it tolerates an excess of moisture and temperature changes well.
