Tomato Baba Rum is the owner of huge, unusual fruits. Included in the state register in 2015, the author is the breeding company "Aelita".

Description of the variety

The variety is indeterminate, so its growth is unlimited. It can reach 2-3 meters. In open ground it grows up to 1-1.5 meters. The leaves are green, medium in size and of medium density. The first fruit cluster appears after 6 leaves, then every 2-3 leaves. The tomato is vigorous, resistant to heat and short-term cold snaps, healthy and strong.

The main qualities of the fruit

The berries are flat-round, wider in width than in height, weighing 250-300 g. The first fruits can be 600 g. There are weak ribs. The color of the unripe fruit is light green, with a dark spot at the stalk. Ripe Baba fruits are olive-colored. Fruits are collected in clusters of 4-5 fruits. The skin is elastic, thin, durable, easy to remove. The pulp is green-yellow, emerald, with a slightly lighter center.

Taste characteristics

The taste is amazing and unusual for a tomato, reminiscent of an exotic fruit or melon, sweet, but with a delicate sourness. The pulp resembles pineapple in appearance, it is tender, juicy and aromatic. Seed chambers are well visible, small. The variety is suitable for dietary and baby food, contains a minimum of anthocyanins, which can cause allergies, and a lot of beta-carotene. It is consumed mainly fresh, but it can become the basis for unusual preparations: sliced salads, emerald jam, vegetable caviar.

Ripening and fruiting

The plant is mid-season, ripens in 110-115 days. Harvested from July to September.

Yield

The indicators are good - 6.8-8.0 kg per 1 sq. m, but with enhanced agricultural technology, they can reach 10-12 kg per sq. m.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

The seed is sown at the beginning of March, while the seedlings are planted in open ground at the age of 60-65 days, when the threat of frost has passed and the soil warms up well enough. This is the period from May 15 to June 5-6.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The inter-row distance is 60 cm, while the landing holes are located at a distance of 50 cm from each other.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

Green tomatoes are on average less whimsical than other varieties, and Baba is no exception. The tomato is recommended for growing in all regions of the Russian Federation. It can be grown in greenhouses and outdoors. Formation, as for any other variety with unlimited growth, is mandatory. Grown in 1-2 stems.A garter is necessary for both lashes and hands with heavy fruits.

You can get the maximum yield by observing the following agricultural rules.

  • Breaking off leaves. Allows you to redirect nutrients from the tops to the fruits. The leaves are cut off only under the brushes, where the fruits have reached the desired size and began to ripen.
  • Even watering during the ripening period. The variety is not prone to cracking, but to obtain a calibrated harvest, tomatoes are watered abundantly with warm water, and mulch after watering. In hot summer, watered every other day or even daily.
  • Fertilization. For better sweetness, tomatoes are fed with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers. Convenient universal ones: "Gumat-80", "Ideal", "Kemira", "Izumrud". They are fed strictly according to the instructions, since an excess of nutrition for tomatoes is more harmful than a deficiency.

Fertilizers can be prepared independently from the following components.

  • Greens. The tops of grass, nettle, dandelion are crushed, poured with 2 parts of water, insisted for 10 days. Then diluted with water 5 times. For 1 bush, 1 liter of ready-made solution is enough.
  • Ash. 10 liters will require 1-1.5 kg of high-quality ash (from wheat or rye straw, birch or pine forest). Half a liter of strained ash infusion is poured onto one bush.

It is useful to sprinkle foliage with boric acid (10 g of powder per 1 liter of water), watering with a solution of iodine (5 drops per 5 liters of water). If the plants do not have enough sun, the summer is cloudy, they are fed with magnesium sulfate.

The set is excellent even in conditions of high humidity or temperature extremes. But it will be useful to stimulate pollination by shaking the brushes.

Baba is a variety, so the seeds can be harvested and the same plants can be obtained the next year.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Review overview

The variety is unusual, exotic, and therefore causes caution among conservative gardeners. The fruits are associated with unripe tomatoes, which contain a lot of solanine. But do not confuse the color of an unripe tomato and the olive color of the fruit at the stage of market ripeness. Specially bred green varieties contain a lot of chlorophyll, antioxidants, and they are also leaders in vitamin C.

Those who grew the Rumovaya Baba variety liked it for its excellent health, yield and taste. The emerald pulp is excellent. The fruits are really sweet, fully justify the name, dessert, fragrant, aromatic. The plant itself also shows itself at its best. With standard agricultural technology, it does not cause any problems: these are tenacious, active plants with excellent set and yield.
