Pozzano's extremely unusual name should not be misleading - this tomato may well be grown in Russia. But first it will be necessary to study the features of such a culture and analyze its main properties. Mistakes at such a crucial moment are completely unacceptable.
Breeding history
The Pozzano tomato appeared relatively recently. Its use has been officially allowed since 2014. The plant was developed by Enza Zaden Beheer B. V. It is known to be a hybrid crop. The Dutch tomato was developed and submitted for registration in Russia in 2010, but the processing of the application took quite a long time.
Description of the variety
Pozzano bushes will develop according to an indeterminate scenario. Such a plant is cultivated only in the Central Black Earth Region, and exclusively in film greenhouses. This variety grows up to 2.5-3 m. Its bushes are distinguished by expressive power. Therefore, you will have to take care of planting even more carefully than when growing many other indeterminate varieties.
The main qualities of the fruit
Ripe fruits are red and medium in size. The average weight of such berries is 180 g. They are similar in shape to a cylinder, and each cluster gives from 5 to 8 fruits. Development from simple inflorescences is characteristic. The keeping quality of the crop satisfies the needs of most gardeners.
Taste characteristics
Pozzano's bright scarlet flesh is firm. The taste fully meets expectations and sometimes even exceeds them. In addition to fresh consumption, the crop is suitable for whole-fruit canning.
Ripening and fruiting
The plant belongs to the mid-early category. Usually, it will take 100-103 days for the crop to develop after discarding early shoots. It should be borne in mind that in a particular year the situation can easily change.
Yield
The productivity of the Pozzano tomato is very high. It can reach 25.4 kg per 1 sq. m. Of course, such a success will require careful agrotechnical preparation and is possible only in favorable weather. Disappointments are always associated with ignoring these two points. It should be emphasized that with a competent approach, the entire declared crop will meet the criteria for marketability.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Seedlings should be started from March 15 to April 5. In each region, in a particular year, the situation may differ. Usually 45-55 days pass between planting seeds and transferring seedlings into open ground. In extreme cases, if the weather is not favorable, you can further increase this period to 60 days, but no more. The higher the solar activity during the cultivation of the seedlings, the better.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
There should be from 1.8 to 2.5 bushes per 1 m2. With tighter placement, problems are almost inevitable. The distance between the holes should be 30-40 cm.The deepening of the stems of the seedlings is made by 2 cm. All planted specimens are immediately thoroughly watered with warm water.
Growing and care
Forming Pozzano bushes is required. Lead them strictly in 1 stem. In seedling containers, a charcoal drainage layer is certainly equipped. Additional lighting is required until 14-16 hours, as well as the elimination of drafts. When cultivating in a greenhouse, one must persistently monitor so that the earth does not dry out, however, the ingress of water on the bushes themselves is unacceptable - it almost inevitably leads to the appearance of fungal infections.
Pozzano is suitable for professional grade heated greenhouses. You can also grow it using organic farming methods. There is still quite a bit of specific information on the cultivation of this particular variety. However, you can follow the universal guidelines in a number of aspects. So, the greenhouses will have to be ventilated in order to get a good result.
If a return of frost is likely, use a non-woven covering material. If the trouble has already occurred, it will be necessary to use anti-stress drugs for plants. Each watering must be accompanied by loosening of the earth. Top dressing is carried out according to the same schedule and the same compositions as for other greenhouse early-ripening varieties of tomatoes. Phosphorus-potassium mixtures play a special role.
Foliar dressing involves the introduction of:
16 g of urea;
10 g superphosphate;
16 g of magnesium sulfate (all this is dissolved in 10 liters of water).
The stepchildren are removed 7 days after the transfer to the open ground. This procedure is then repeated every decade. We must make sure that there are no "hemp" left. The apical buds also need to be disposed of. All these requirements are easy to implement even for inexperienced gardeners.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
The Pozzano tomato tolerates shading relatively well. However, cultivating it in a very dense shade is not the best solution. Resistance to heat and temperature drop is not described in the official description.
Review overview
The bushes of this variety are distinguished by expressive external beauty. A lot of fruits are formed on the plant. Any pain is not typical for him. The crushing of berries is also practically not detected. For many farmers, the Pozzano tomato is among the confident favorites.
