Tomato Pink Garant is a relatively new variety that gardeners have come to love. The variety is distinguished by high yield and unpretentiousness. The variety bears fruit well in any conditions: it is not afraid of sudden changes in temperature, drought and high humidity.
Breeding history
The author of the Pink Garant variety is considered to be Sakata Vegetables Europe S. A. S. Breeders have been working on a self-pollinating hybrid for quite a long time. The result of a thorough selection was the development of the Pink Garant variety.
At the end of 2017, a request was sent to the State Register to register a new variety of tomato. Only after 3 years, this tomato was approved and allowed for cultivation. The hybrid can be grown in the North Caucasus region.
Description of the variety
Variety Pink Garant is distinguished by unlimited growth of the main shoot. The tomato grows up to 2–2.5 m in height and needs a garter. Light green leaves are standard size. Plates are unpaired. The bushes have a medium foliage.
The hybrid regularly forms new shoots. An important condition for harvesting is their timely removal. The inflorescence of a tomato is of a simple type, and the first fruit cluster appears above the 5th leaf. In the future, brushes appear every 2 sheets. The variety is distinguished by a bountiful harvest, 8–10 fruits are formed on each cluster.
The Pink Garant hybrid is characterized as an early ripening variety, since tomatoes ripen within 85–95 days, the countdown begins from the moment the first shoots appear. The fruits gradually turn red and take on a bright pink color. There is no light spot on the stalk. There is a slight ribbing at the base of the tomatoes. Tomatoes are characterized by 6 or more nests.
The main qualities of the fruit
Tomatoes have a thin but strong enough skin. Tomatoes are rounded, slightly flattened. Most often, the weight of the fruit does not exceed 180 g, but timely watering and top dressing make it possible to obtain tomatoes weighing 300–350 g. Pink Garant tomatoes are resistant to fruit cracking.
Taste characteristics
The taste of the fruit is pleasant and sweet, and the aroma is quite pronounced. The pulp of tomatoes is juicy and fleshy. The thin skin is practically not felt when eaten.
Pink Garant is a variety related to salad varieties, however, lecho, pasta and various sauces can be prepared from the fruits. Such tomatoes are not suitable for making juice, as it turns out to be very thick.
Ripening and fruiting
The first tomatoes ripen at the end of July. The variety has a long fruiting period. If weather conditions permit, you can harvest until late autumn. Harvested tomatoes tolerate transportation well without losing their presentation.
Yield
From 1 sq. m, you can collect about 15.5 kg of tomatoes. The yield of the hybrid depends on the characteristics of planting care. Pink Garant needs regular feeding and timely weed removal. Otherwise, the plants will not receive enough nutrients, which can negatively affect the yield. Ripe tomatoes can be stored for about 2-3 weeks in a cool, dark place.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
It is recommended to grow the hybrid using seedlings. It is worth planting seeds 55 days before transplanting into a greenhouse. You can sow seeds in the first half of March.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
The variety needs germination. Before sprouts appear, the seedlings should be placed in a dark place in a warm place. Then put the containers on the window and provide a day of light for 10 hours using special ultraviolet lamps. 14 days before planting, you need to dig up the soil and fertilize with humus (7 kg will be required for 1 m 2).
Growing and care
It is important to tie the bushes to a support and remove unnecessary stepsons, otherwise the plant may break under the weight of the fruit. The soil should be moistened as the top layer dries, usually watering is carried out every 2-3 days. Water the plants with warm and settled water.
If a dry summer is given, the bases of the bushes should be mulched with peat or straw, this avoids drying out of the roots. It is important to start feeding 2 weeks after transplanting into the shelter, using 35 g of nitroammophos in a bucket of warm water. As soon as flowers begin to appear, the bushes should be fertilized with a mixture of 50 g of superphosphate and 40 g of potassium sulphide.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
The hybrid is highly resistant to common diseases. The variety is practically not affected by the tobacco mosaic virus, fusarium.
The damage to plantings is most often caused by the whitefly, but the rootworm nematode does not attack this variety. To protect your plantings from pests, you should often ventilate the greenhouse. If whiteflies are found on plants, treat them with Fitoverm. It is necessary to repeat spraying once a week until the pests disappear completely.
Experts recommend timely preventive treatment. The use of fungicides makes it possible to increase the resistance of plants to diseases. Repeat spraying of plantings every 2 weeks, alternating means.
Review overview
The opinions of gardeners, as often happens, differ: most people like the need for minimal care and the amount of fruits, while others are disappointed by the taste. An unambiguous advantage, which is noted by absolutely everyone, is its high resistance to diseases and adverse conditions.
