Among the heart-shaped tomatoes, the Eagle Heart variety stands out for the large size of the fruits, the brightness of their color. Since its appearance on the market, he managed to win many fans among amateur vegetable growers. The variety is unpretentious, well acclimatized in the open field.
Breeding history
The variety was developed by a group of breeders in Novosibirsk. Included in the State Register in 2005.
Description of the variety
The bushes are not very thickened, medium-sized. In greenhouses, they reach 1.2-1.3 m in height, in open ground they do not exceed 1 m. The stems are powerful, well leafy. Green tops, typical for tomatoes.
The inflorescence is simple, the first is laid above the 7th leaf. Up to 7 flowers appear on the brush, of which 3-4 fruits are formed.
The main qualities of the fruit
Large fruits up to 400 g in weight have a characteristic shape resembling a heart. Immediately after tying, the skin is light green, as the mass gains, the color changes to raspberry, bright. The surface of the fruit is slightly ribbed. On the lower branches, they are larger than on the upper ones.
Taste characteristics
Sweet fruits have a pleasant balanced taste and a characteristic tomato aroma. The pulp is moderately juicy, refreshing.
Ripening and fruiting
The tomato is mid-season. Fruiting is extended in terms of time. The average ripening period is 100-120 days from the moment of emergence.
Yield
The yield of marketable fruits is high, up to 76%. Productivity 8.8-13.6 kg / sq. m.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
The beginning of sowing seeds for this variety falls on the 3rd decade of March and early April. Transfer to open ground is done after 60 days.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
On average, it is enough to plant 2 bushes per 1 m2. With a greater thickening of the plantings, tomatoes are less ventilated, they get sick more often.
Growing and care
Bushes that are quite tall for a determinant variety need to be formed. It is best to keep them in 1-2 stems. The garter is carried out to the trellis or individual props, depending on the density of the planting.
The variety loves well-loosened soils, light, breathable. When sowing seeds, it is better to use ready-made soil substrates. On the beds under the Eagle's Heart, in addition to the turf, humus or peat, wood ash, superphosphate should be added, mixing all the ingredients well. Dense clayey areas are loosened with sand. In a greenhouse, it is better to disinfect the ground with boiling water with crystals of potassium permanganate or boric acid dissolved in it.
Germination of seeds is carried out in common containers, without film, but at a temperature of about +25 degrees. When sprouts appear, the containers are transferred to a cooler place to avoid excessive stretching of the seedlings. In this case, it is important that the length of daylight hours is at least 14 hours. Abundant watering is not required for this variety. Tomatoes Eagle Heart dive 12-18 days from the moment of emergence.
Usually, a transplant to a permanent place for this variety is planned at the beginning of June. Complex fertilizers are placed in the holes. After acclimatizing the plants, they will need regular pinching. After the formation of the ovaries, additional tying of heavy brushes is carried out.
The variety is sensitive to the nutritional value of the environment, but an excess of minerals for it is just as destructive as their lack. Therefore, it is worth carefully adjusting the fertilization schedule. Watering is carried out only with warm water, with a frequency of 1 time in 7-10 days; on hot days, moisture is added more often.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
Eagle's heart is a variety that is not susceptible to the most common diseases of nightshade crops. Bushes are extremely rarely affected by late blight, the tobacco mosaic virus. Tomatoes are resistant to top rot, as well as to Alternaria. Despite such indicators, the plants still require professional treatment with fungicidal compositions. After transplanting, the bushes are sprayed with "Fitosporin", then after 2 weeks - with solutions based on copper or iodine.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
The variety is well adapted to cold weather and other external influences. It tolerates excess moisture normally. It tolerates fluctuations in atmospheric temperatures.
Growing regions
Initially, the variety was bred in Siberia, but it is successfully cultivated in other regions, from the Urals to the Far East. In the conditions of the Moscow region and the middle zone, it can be grown without shelter, provided there are a sufficient number of sunny days.
Review overview
Tomatoes Eagle Heart managed to get a lot of positive feedback from summer residents. The seeds are praised for the good quality of the material without re-grading, excellent germination. The resulting fruits are awarded numerous positive ratings due to their undemanding care, sweet taste with a moderate balance of juiciness and pulp density. It is noted that the crop does not deteriorate during transportation and storage, if necessary, it ripens successfully at home.
Gardeners are surprised by the giant size of the fruit. Many people manage to get tomatoes weighing up to 1 kg, and they do not crack when gaining mass. The heart-shaped shape gives them an unusual appearance, but does not interfere with the use of tomatoes in salads.
To the features of this variety, summer residents refer to the exactingness of the composition of the soil. Tomatoes bear fruit best of all on soils rich in minerals. It is also noted that the variety is optimal for greenhouse cultivation, but in open beds, plants may not have enough sun for full ripening of fruits. Summer residents recommend tying up not only the bushes themselves, but also especially heavy fruit brushes.
