Tomato Olya belongs to the type of tomatoes that are not taken with exoticism, but with excellent technical characteristics. Fruits of classic color and shape, very abundant, beautiful, hardy and easy to care for. Variety of 1997, recommended for cultivation in all regions of the Russian Federation, except for the Far North.
Description of the variety
Olya's hybrid tomato is a super determinant variety. This is a group of varieties that do not require pinching, compact and early maturing. Olya grows up to 1.2 meters. The bush is of medium structure, graceful, airy, the foliage is light green, sparse, does not interfere with the fruit, the plant is not inclined to “go to the tops”. Lays not 1 inflorescence, but 3 at once. The plant grows 12-15 brushes, according to some data - 15-17.
The main qualities of the fruit
Fruits are medium-sized, up to 180 grams, collected in bunches of 7-9 pcs. The shape is beautiful, almost perfectly spherical, with hardly noticeable ribs. The color of ripe fruits is bright red, unripe fruits are green with a dark spot.
Taste characteristics
The fruits are sweet, juicy, the seed chambers are large enough. The pulp is dense, the walls are thick. They lie well. The tomato is recommended for fresh consumption, but due to its size and shape it looks great in salted whole form. The skin is quite dense and elastic at the same time.
Tomatoes tolerate heat treatment well, do not burst or crack. Suitable for fresh consumption, and for drying, for making adjika, lecho, winter salads - a universal tomato.
Ripening and fruiting
The variety is early, ripens 90-105 days after germination. With high agricultural technology, you can get fruits in 85 days, in June.
Yield
The yield is very high - 10-15 kg per 1 sq. m with classic cultivation. In greenhouses, with extended turnover, you can remove 26-27 kg from 1 sq. m. The yield is friendly.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Seeds are sown in the last decade of March. Seedlings are planted in the phase of 5-7 large leaves (45-50 days old) under a film in mid-May or in open ground in the first week of June.
For extended growing schemes, seeds are sown on December 10-15, grown only with backlighting for the first 45 days. They are planted in greenhouses in early February-March.
For autumn-winter planting, seeds are sown in July directly into the ground. In this case, the crop is harvested in December.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
In row spacing - 50 cm, between plants - 40 cm. For 1 sq. m there are 4-5 plants.
Growing and care
The variety is universal, can be grown for any purpose. It is officially recommended for:
- small personal plots;
- small farms.
It is suitable for extended turnover, winter-spring production and classic spring planting with harvest in July-August. It tolerates shading well, against the background of other tomatoes it stands out for its resistance to heat and to a decrease in temperature.
The cultivar does not need to be grafted, but the formation is necessary. As additional trunks, stepchildren lead, appearing from under the groups of inflorescences (in this variety, the flowers are not single, but collected in 3 pieces).
The garter variety is needed, but moderate. Use strips of fabric 3-4 cm wide or unnecessary nylon products.
Important rules of care.
- All greenhouses, tools, inventory are disinfected in the fall, plant residues are removed.
- Watering should be abundant, but not excessive. The soil should dry well between waterings.
- Watered with warm water in the morning, under the root, so that condensation does not remain on the leaves and walls of the greenhouse.
- After watering, it is useful to mulch the soil with needles, sawdust, tops (but only healthy). This method will additionally nourish the soil and protect the plantings from pests.
- Aging yellowed lower leaves, on which dirt and moisture accumulate, must be removed in time.
- Tomatoes love feeding, but undersupply is better than too much. Too much fertilizer is bad for plant health and crops.
- Tomato Olya tolerates temperature changes well, but it is better not to load the plant - on cold nights planting in open ground is covered with spunbond.
Spraying with bioactive preparations is also useful. "Fitosporin" or "Zircon" are natural stimulants that will strengthen plant immunity and prevent diseases.
Autumn-winter culture is the most difficult way to grow tomatoes, it is not recommended for beginners. However, Olya's tomato meets the requirements of this method: it is fruitful, early and hardy.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
The Olya variety has excellent health. It is resistant to the following diseases.
- Tobacco mosaic virus - high resistance. The virus is transmitted through a wide range of hosts; plants, weeds, tools, some insects, and the remains of crops from the previous year can become the source.
- Fusarium and Fusarium cervical rot - highly resistant.Fusarium infects plants in the fruiting stage, rises from the lower leaves.
- Gall nematode - high. Tomatoes that are completely resistant to nematodes do not exist. However, selection in this direction is being actively pursued. Tomato Olya belongs to the variety of tomatoes that are highly resistant to the nematode, due to the special structure of the roots - the cells are densely located, have thick corky walls.
- Cladosporium is good resistance. To increase the resistance of the Olya variety to cladosporiosis, you should avoid high humidity and heat in the greenhouse, do not leave plant debris and residues, follow the rules of crop rotation (tomatoes should not be planted after strawberries, potatoes and nightshades), do not thicken the planting.
Review overview
The variety attracts attention with its luxurious yield. Bunches of ripe ball fruits are very effective. It does not require pinching, which greatly facilitates the work of the gardener, especially with plantings that take up large areas. The variety can be planted in semi-shady areas of a vegetable garden or greenhouse, it shows itself well in regions with cloudy summers. Also bears fruit excellently in extreme heat. The third strong point is high resistance to diseases, it does not get sick until the very cold.
The variety is very popular with those who do not have time to invest in specific care, regularly inspect plants, remove stepchildren or leaves to increase yields, stimulate the formation of ovaries, and help pollination. Tomato Olya will show itself in any case, it is impossible to remain without a crop.
It will show itself even better indoors - the harvest will be even more abundant.
The taste of the fruit, according to reviews, is average, but for a typical pickled tomato, the outstanding sweetness and bouquet are not so important. It is enough that the fruits are not sour, not bland and not “wooden”. They are delicious for a solid five, although they will not satisfy gourmets who expect a special taste from tomatoes.
An excellent variety for those looking for a versatile, tenacious, classic tomato for harvesting.
