The mid-season variety Novichok pink is very popular with gardeners. Differs in unpretentiousness, high resistance to drought and many diseases. It is characterized by amicable ripening of the crop. The fruits are never overripe, they are easy to transport and store. Used fresh, for making juices, canning.
Not to be confused with Novice and Novice Deluxe.
Breeding history
Bred by Volgograd breeders: L. N. Popova, L. P. Arinina for open ground. Included in the State Register in 2006.
Description of the variety
Bushes are compact, small, height varies from 50 to 80 cm, medium branched, medium leafy. The type of growth is determinant, usually forming 1-2 stems. The leaves are small, juicy green, curled down, the inflorescences are racemose, simple. The first inflorescence is laid after the appearance of 6 leaves above the third pair of leaves. On each brush, 5-6 tomatoes are tied. Netherflower is missing. During the fruiting period, some of the leaves are cut off. Practically does not form stepchildren, if they appear, then in the lower part of the stem. The bushes are tied up, if necessary, small supports are installed. The rookie pink is considered a thermophilic variety.
The main qualities of the fruit
Fruits are small, elongated-oval (plum-shaped), weighing 80-113 g, but can reach 150 g. Pink color, with moderately juicy fleshy pulp, the skin is smooth and very dense, not damaged by mechanical stress. Tomatoes are not prone to overripening and cracking, they are distinguished by good keeping quality and transportability.
Taste characteristics
Differs in characteristic tomato delicate sweetish taste and pleasant aroma.
Ripening and fruiting
Mid-season, from the moment of emergence to the removal of the first tomatoes, 114-120 days pass. Harvesting dates: from early July to early August.
Yield
With high-quality care, more than 2 kg of fruits are removed from one plant. The tomatoes ripen in unison within 2 weeks. In industrial cultivation, mechanization of harvesting is allowed; in large areas, harvesting can be carried out on all bushes at the same time.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Seedlings are planted on March 10-20. The seeds are pre-soaked for 15 minutes in 5% saline solution (half a teaspoon of salt in half a glass of water) to check for germination - viable seeds will sink to the bottom. Then it is disinfected with a solution of potassium permanganate for about 20 minutes, washed, moistened with a growth stimulator, wrapped in a cloth and left for germination.
Sprouted seeds are removed carefully with tweezers and placed in the soil to a depth of 1 cm, with an interval of 2-3 cm. The soil mixture for tomatoes should contain: garden and turf soil, compost, sand, wood ash.
When transplanting into containers, the central root is lightly pinched in the plants, this is done to stimulate the growth of the entire root system. Seedlings appear in 5-10 days. They will need bright lighting.
The grown seedlings after picking can be sprayed with a solution of wood ash. It is not recommended to feed with fresh manure, as the plants begin to intensively gain green mass.
Young plants are planted in the ground on May 10-20. By this time, the stem reaches a thickness of half a centimeter and up to 30 cm in height.10 days before planting, the seedlings begin to be taken out into the open air for hardening, gradually increasing the residence time. At the same time, they are treated with Bordeaux liquid for the prevention of late blight. The landing procedure is carried out in calm weather. It is better to deepen the root collar a little, so the formation of new roots is stimulated.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
A checkerboard planting with an interval of 40x60 cm is recommended, about 6 bushes are planted per 1 m2.
Growing and care
The variety does not require special care, but needs regular feeding. Grown in open beds and under a film. It is recommended to water with settled warm water strictly at the root, then loosen the soil and mulch: with straw, fallen leaves or cut grass. It is imperative to make mineral and organic fertilizers, especially tomatoes respond well to potash and phosphorus fertilizers. Fertilizers are applied about 3 times per season.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
When grown in greenhouses, it can be affected by late blight; for preventive treatment and at the initial stages, the biological product "Fitosporin" is used. Mulching the soil is a good preventive measure. Shoots, leaves and bushes affected by late blight must be burned. The land in the garden is treated with a solution of copper sulfate. It helps to prevent the appearance of the disease by planting siderates: calendula, marigolds.
Has a stable immunity to root rot or macrosporiosis.
Spraying with garlic infusion helps to get rid of aphid colonies. From spider mites, shoots and leaves are washed with soapy water and sprinkled with ash.To protect against the Colorado potato beetle, dill is grown along the edge of the garden.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
The culture is distinguished by high drought resistance, tolerance to cold weather. It is important to remember that unfavorable conditions reduce the immunity and productivity of plants.
Growing regions
It is recommended for planting in the Lower Volga region, but the variety is often planted in the middle lane and in the south of Russia. Greenhouses can also be harvested in colder climates.
Review overview
Gardeners are very complimentary about the Novichok pink variety. Among the positive qualities they call: a bountiful harvest, a pleasant, very sweet taste, unpretentiousness in care, it grows well in the open field and in a greenhouse. It is believed that this is an ideal crop for regions with short summers, as the fruits ripen very quickly - 55 days after planting in the garden. Others note a high resistance to late blight, they say that Novice pink has it higher than that of White filling. Some believe that this tomato, in general, never gets sick. I really like this feature of tomatoes - when canning, they do not deform and do not burst.
