Everyone has long been accustomed to the classic red color of tomatoes, but their yellow varieties are of genuine interest. One of the brightest representatives of sunny tomatoes is Momotaro Gold. This hybrid was selected by Japanese specialists.
Description of the variety
Momotaro Gold has an indeterminate type of growth. The bushes of the culture grow rapidly, reaching a height of about 200 centimeters. Clusters develop evenly and compactly, all specimens contain from 3 to 5 fruits. The stem is strong, light green, but the foliage has an almost emerald hue. The articulation is visible on the stalk of a simple type.
The main qualities of the fruit
Momotaro Gold is characterized by the recoil of large fruits of a juicy orange-yellow hue. Bushes look decorative during the fruiting period. Flat-round berries have approximately the same size, reaching 250 g in weight. The peculiarity of the variety is the flesh of a firm texture.
Taste characteristics
Vegetable growers are enthusiastic about the taste. According to the majority, there is simply no better tomato. The unique sweet taste is accompanied by hints of tropical fruits. In most cases, tomatoes are eaten fresh.
Ripening and fruiting
Tomatoes of this variety ripen very early, which allows summer residents to grow them for sale and get a decent income. It takes 75-80 days for Momotaro to be fully ready. Berries of the ultra-early variety begin to form ovaries already in the first half of July. Tomatoes will be ready by August.
Yield
Yield indicators are completely dependent on agrotechnical measures. With enhanced agricultural technology, 5 fruits ripen in brushes, which allows you to collect several kilograms of berries from a square meter of soil. The originator declared this variety as a high-yielding variety, but there are no exact data on the indicators yet.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
The planting time of seedlings will depend on where the tomato is planned to be grown in the future. If it is assigned to the greenhouse, then sowing is carried out on March 10-15, and if outdoors, then from March 30 to April 5. All planting containers must be thoroughly disinfected.
Experts say that it is better to do the soil for planting Momotaro Gold with your own hands, adding only 20% of the purchased land to it. Here's what you need for good soil:
- peat - 35%;
- garden soil - 30% (tomatoes should not have previously grown on the taken land, and it also needs to be calcined);
- store-bought soil - 20%;
- biohumus - 10%;
- perlite - 4%;
- vermiculite - 1%.
Containers for disembarkation must necessarily be with drainage. During planting, the ground is irrigated from a spray bottle, while there should not be water, but a light solution of potassium humate. For successful germination, the seedlings are placed in conditions where the temperature will be at least 28 degrees. Further, they are looked after in the same way as for other tomatoes.
When the seedlings reach the age of 45-55 days, they are determined in closed ground. If the tomato grows in open soil, it is worth waiting for the complete disappearance of the night frosts.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all.All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
Momotaro Gold can be planted both in individual holes and in grooves. In the first case, it is necessary to maintain a distance of 40 cm between the pits. The row spacing will be 0.6 m. However, it is much more convenient to plant in the grooves. The width of each furrow is 0.2 m, and the depth is 15 cm. The distance between the grooves is 0.7 m. It is important to note that the soil for planting this variety must be prepared and fertilized in advance. In order for the tomatoes to quickly adapt, a couple of days before planting the soil, the grooves are fertilized with Borofoskoy, and also spilled with "Fitosporin".
Growing and care
After planting, the tomatoes are left untouched for 10 days. Then the first watering is carried out, combining it with top dressing. Fertilizer is made from a tablespoon of ammonium sulfate diluted in a 10 liter bucket. One plant will take from 2 to 4 liters of the mixture. Further, the tomato will also need additional feeding, and they will have to be given very often. You will need calcium leaf dressing, potassium monophosphate, organic matter, nitrogen. Purchased mineral complexes and potassium fertilizers will definitely be required.
For the harvest to be as plentiful and large as possible, gardeners must form Momotaro Gold into one trunk. The stepchildren will grow quickly, and they must be broken off, leaving a stump of 3 cm. Everything below the first fetal brush is removed, including the leaves. Above the brush, a couple of advanced stepchildren are left, which will also participate in the formation of the crop. 10-11 days after planting, Momotaro Gold tomatoes are tied to supports.
Disease and pest resistance
Momotaro Gold does not suffer from apical fruit rot, and his berries do not crack. The main enemy of the variety is late blight. During periods of rainfall or high humidity in the greenhouse, the plant is attacked by fungi, which have to be eliminated with strong chemicals.
Preventive spraying with garlic infusions will help prevent the appearance of aphids. They will also save you from spider mites. To prevent slugs from crawling between the bushes, sprinkle the ground with pine needles. They will also play the role of mulch.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
