Decorating the garden beds or greenhouses with an exotic variety of tomatoes is the dream of every summer resident. One of the most fruitful and incredibly tasty is the mid-early type of tomato called Vintage wine.

Breeding history

This tomato variety was developed by a group of American breeders led by Tom Wagner. The nightshade crop grows well both in open ground and in greenhouses. The variety is recommended for cultivation in all regions of Russia. Tomatoes have several names: Vintage Wine, Vintage Wine, Old Wine.

Description of the variety

Plant Vintage wine is a tall bush of indeterminate type, reaching a height of 150-180 cm. The bush is characterized by moderate thickening with dark green leaves, strong central stem, weak branching, developed root system. In general, the bush looks compact and neat. Each fruit cluster is 3-4 tomatoes.

When growing a culture, do not forget about the correct formation of the bush - in 1 stem, if it grows in a greenhouse, in 2-3 stems - if in a garden bed, a garter to a support or trellises, as well as removing unnecessary stepchildren. It has a universal purpose, so it is eaten fresh, canned, processed, dried.

The main qualities of the fruit

Tomato Vintage wine is a very beautiful berry, gaining weight up to 150-250 grams. The vegetable belongs to large-fruited. The fruit has an unusual color - light red with many yellow streaks. In an unripe form, the tomato is colored green-yellow. The tomato is endowed with a flat-round shape with a pronounced ribbing of the surface.

The skin of the berries is thin and shiny. Tomatoes are characterized by transportability, a beautiful tomato look and a short shelf life - up to 15 days under the correct storage conditions.

Taste characteristics

Impeccable taste is one of the virtues of the culture, thanks to which the vegetable is widely used in cooking. The striped tomato has a fleshy, juicy and firm flesh with few seeds. The flesh of the berries is light scarlet. The taste is dominated by sweetness, which is complemented by light sourness and spicy aroma.

Ripening and fruiting

Tomatoes Vintage wine is an early maturing species of nightshade crops. From the appearance of full shoots to the ripening of the first fruits on the bushes, it takes almost 4 months (110-120 days). The berries are gradually ripened. The period when most tomatoes ripen begins in mid-July.

Yield

The crop yield is good. Compliance with all agrotechnical rules and recommendations will allow to remove up to 3 kg of ripe berries from each bush per season.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Sowing of seed, which is pre-sorted and disinfected, is performed in the first half of March - 60-65 days before transplanting to a new location. Bushes are grown subject to special temperature and light conditions. At the stage of the appearance of several real leaves in the plant, it is necessary to perform a dive (seating in separate containers). A week before transplanting, it is recommended to harden the seedlings, which will facilitate the adaptation of tomatoes to new growing conditions.

Transplanting seedlings to a garden bed is carried out in the second half of May, when the weather corresponds to this - sufficiently warmed air and soil. The tomato is planted in the greenhouse in early May.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The plant needs not only to be properly looked after, but also to observe the density and planting pattern of the bushes. It is recommended to place 2-3 bushes per 1 m2, which will provide the plant with a sufficient amount of air and light. The correct scheme for planting is 50x50 cm.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

The variety is not very whimsical to climatic conditions, however, it requires pre-prepared soil - weed-free, moist, breathable, nutritious and fertile. In addition, the culture requires a lot of light / sun.

As for agricultural technology, it consists of a whole chain of measures: watering with settled water, applying mineral and organic fertilizers, loosening the soil, forming bushes, tying to supports or trellises, removing unnecessary stepsons and lower leaves, controlling air humidity (if the plant grows in a greenhouse ), prevention of diseases and viruses.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The culture has sufficient immunity to resist standard tomato diseases. Tomato leaves phytophthora due to the early ripening of tomatoes. Treatments with special mixtures will help protect against the invasion of pests (aphids, Colorado potato beetle, spider mite).

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

Variety Vintage wine is stress-resistant, therefore it reacts firmly to sudden temperature fluctuations, heat, short drought. Poorly on the fruiting and development of tomatoes, drafts, wind and excessive humidity can be affected.
