Along with the classic red tomatoes, many gardeners and farmers dream of growing a tasty and productive pink tomato that does not require complex maintenance and gives bountiful harvests. One of these is the mid-season variety Pink Dawn, which grows both in film greenhouses and in summer cottages.
Breeding history
This variety was created by domestic breeders (Korchagin, Tereshkova, Khovrin and Ognev) representing the Poisk agricultural company in 2014. Added to the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia and allowed for use in 2015. The vegetable culture has been zoned for all regions of the country.
Description of the variety
Tomato Pink Dawn is an indeterminate tall plant that grows up to 180-200 cm. The bushes are endowed with moderate thickening with small green leaves, a strong central stem, weak branching, a developed root system and a simple type of inflorescences with articulation. During cultivation, it is recommended to form the plant in 2-3 stems, be sure to tie up both the trunk and branches, which can bend and break off under the weight of weighty berries, and also regularly carry out pinching.
The main qualities of the fruit
Tomatoes Pink Dawn is a bright representative of large-fruited tomatoes. On average, the berry gains a weight of 350-400 grams, but sometimes more - 500-600 g. In a state of full ripeness, the fruit is evenly covered with a raspberry color. In an unripe form, the tomato is light green in color. The shape of the vegetables is heart-shaped, on the surface of which ribbing is noticeable. The tomato peel is thin and shiny. Vegetables tolerate transportation well, and shelf life is average.
Tomato has a salad purpose, so it is eaten fresh, canned chopped, and also massively processed into dressings, drinks, ketchups. The tomato is not suitable for whole-fruit canning due to its large size.
Taste characteristics
Raspberry tomato attracts not only with its beautiful appearance, but also with excellent taste. The flesh of the berry is soft, fleshy, sugary and very juicy, with a low content of seeds. The tomatoes are sweetish on the palate, with a noticeable sourness, which are complemented by a rich dessert aroma.
Ripening and fruiting
Pink Dawn tomatoes belong to the mid-ripening class. Less than 4 months (110-115 days) pass from the moment of the first shoots to ripe fruits on the branches of the bush. The berries ripen gradually. The peak of tomato ripening occurs at the end of July - August.
Yield
The variety yields excellent. Providing a full range of agricultural technology, up to 7.9 kg of ripe tomatoes can be harvested per 1 m2 per season.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Sowing seeds for seedlings is recommended to be carried out in the second half of March - 60-65 days before transplanting to a garden bed or greenhouse. In order for the seedlings to sprout faster, it is necessary to provide a greenhouse effect using glass or oilcloth. As a rule, germination is observed after 5-7 days, after which the glass / polyethylene is removed, and the box with the plants is transferred to a well-lit place where it is warm enough.
After the seedlings grow up to 10 cm in height, a pick is carried out. 70-10 days before transplanting, it is advisable to start hardening the bushes, bringing them to fresh air every day, which contributes to the rapid adaptation of seedlings to new conditions.
Transplanting to a garden bed or seedling greenhouse is carried out in late May - early June. During this period, the soil is sufficiently warmed up, and night frosts are no longer observed. At first, the planted bushes can be covered with agrofibre, which will allow them to quickly get used to cool nights.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
When planting and growing a nightshade crop, it is imperative to observe the density and layout of the bushes. It is recommended to place 3-4 bushes of seedlings per 1 m2. The correct layout for planting is 50x70 cm.
Growing and care
The culture is grown in a seedling way. Before planting, you need to remove weeds from the site, dig up the soil, which will improve air permeability, fertilize and moisten. The soil should be loose and fertile. The best is the area where cabbage, carrots, pumpkin, and radish used to grow.
Growing a vegetable involves proper care, which consists of: watering with settled water, feeding, forming and tying bushes to supports, removing unnecessary stepchildren and leaves, loosening and mulching the soil, preventive measures to prevent diseases and viruses. When growing tomatoes in greenhouses, do not forget about regular ventilation.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
This variety is absolutely resistant to tobacco mosaic virus and fusarium wilt, but is subject to phytophthora. The prevention of this disease will be the control of soil moisture, the introduction of potassium-phosphorus fertilizers and the disinfection of the soil with copper sulfate. Spray the plant with fungicides. In addition, tomatoes do not have strong protection against the invasion of pests - aphids, bear, whitefly and spider mites.By planting mint, chamomile or basil nearby with tomatoes, you can protect the bushes from harmful insects.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
The culture has good resistance to stress, so it grows productively in any climatic conditions. Tomatoes are resistant to short-term drought, heat, and sharp temperature fluctuations. The only factor that negatively affects the development of the plant is excessive humidity and strong winds.
