Early ripening varieties of tomatoes are favorite crops that gardeners and farmers are happy to grow on their plots. The most attractive are not just early species, but those that do not require complex agricultural techniques and give abundant and stable yields. These include the hybrid variety Lezhebok.
Breeding history
This hybrid type of tomato is the result of many years of work by a group of domestic breeders (Volok, Amcheslavskaya, Gavrish and Morev), who represent the Gavrish agricultural firm. The main goal of the scientists was to create an early maturing nightshade culture characterized by long keeping quality. The variety was bred over 20 years ago. In 2002, the culture was added to the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the country, and was also allowed for use. It is recommended for growing tomato Lezhebok in the southern lane - in the beds, in the central regions and the middle lane - in film greenhouses, and in the northeastern part of the Russian Federation - in heated greenhouse structures.
Description of the variety
The Lezhebok plant is a medium-sized shrub of a determinant type, reaching a height of 130-150 cm.The bushes have an average thickening of dark green leaves, underdeveloped branching, a powerful central stem with a noticeable edge, from which flexible branches extend, a strong root system, as well as inflorescences intermediate type. The first fruit cluster is formed above 8-9 leaves, where 5-7 berries are tied. When growing, the formation of a bush in 1 or 2 stems is required, the obligatory tying to a support or trellis, as well as the periodic removal of new stepsons.
The main qualities of the fruit
The Lezhebok tomato is a large-fruited vegetable, reaching a mass of 152-166 grams. The shape of the tomato is flat-round, without noticeable ribbing. In the stage of full ripeness, the tomato is evenly colored in bright red, and in the unripe form, the berries are light green. The peel of the berry is dense, perfectly smooth and glossy, reliably protecting against cracking. In addition, thanks to the peel, the fruits have excellent transportability and long-term preservation without losing their presentation. Tomatoes Scooper are versatile, therefore they are ideal for eating fresh, for preservation and pickles. Tomatoes are ideal for whole fruit canning. The most recent tomatoes taken from the bushes can be folded into crates in a dark and cool place and enjoy real tomatoes for the rest of the year.
Taste characteristics
It is with excellent taste that these tomatoes captivate. They are sweet-sour, moderately aromatic (light spice), practically contain no seeds. The flesh of the berries is fleshy and dense in structure. The juiciness of tomatoes is moderate, there is no wateriness. Unripe tomatoes may contain white, harsh rods inside the pulp.
Ripening and fruiting
Scooper is a mid-early tomato variety. Less than 4 months (107-111 days) pass from the appearance of full shoots to ripe tomatoes on the bushes. The lower and upper fruit clusters ripen at the same time. The fruiting phase is not extended. The active period, when the berries ripen, falls on July. It is characteristic that all berries grow approximately the same size and shape, which makes them attractive.
If there are a lot of unripe tomatoes on the bush, then it is enough to unload the plant a little by removing ripe berries so that the rest will ripen. This will take 7-10 days.
Yield
With proper care, the culture bears abundant fruit. On average, up to 8-9 kg of tomatoes can be harvested from 1 m2. Up to 4 kg of tomatoes are collected from one bush in the garden. Yield indicators do not depend on the number of stems in the bush. According to experts, the more stems, the smaller the tomatoes grow.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out in late March, early April. The seed should not be disinfected beforehand, since it is a hybrid that has gone through all the stages of processing before packaging. It is better to use a commercial primer. To germinate faster, containers with seeds are covered with glass or polyethylene. After the sprouts appear, pots or boxes are placed in a room with a temperature of + 23 ... 25 degrees, where lighting is maintained for 15-18 hours a day.
After the appearance of 3 leaves on the bush, the plants are seated in separate pots (a dive is carried out). In open ground, seedlings are planted in the first half of May, and in greenhouses a little earlier - at the end of April. As a rule, transplantation occurs when the bushes have reached 60 days of age.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
When growing a crop, it is necessary to adhere to the density and planting pattern of bushes. Since the Lezhebok plant is not very compact, up to 3 bushes can be planted per 1 m2. The correct scheme for planting is 40x60 cm.
Growing and care
The cultivation of the culture takes place in a seedling way. Seedlings are bought in stores, since the hybrid does not produce seed. The soil for planting the plant must be well-groomed and prepared - cleaning from weeds, applying fertilizers, loosening, providing air permeability, moisture, arranging high supports or trellises.
Comprehensive tomato care consists of a chain of measures: watering with standing water, loosening the near-stem zone, applying fertilizers, forming and tying bushes, removing stepchildren and lower leaves, as well as disease prevention. In greenhouses, do not forget about airing.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
The plow, like most hybrid crops, is resistant to many tomato viruses and diseases. The plant's immunity is resistant to late blight, leaf mold, phomosis, brown spot, fusarium wilt and apical / root rot. In addition, the hybrid is not afraid of the invasion of aphids, the Colorado potato beetle and the whitefly. The only thing the variety is vulnerable to if the watering regime is violated is the black leg. In greenhouses that are heated, if the humidity regime is not observed, as well as excessive thickening of the bushes, a spider mite may appear.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
The variety has good resistance to stress, so it does not react to temperature fluctuations, heat or drought. The only things to control when growing a plant are sufficient light / sun and moisture. Stagnant water in the soil can lead to crop disease (root decay).
Growing regions
The mid-early tomato variety Lezhebok is massively grown in different climatic zones of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus. The main thing is to choose the right way to breed a crop - open ground or a greenhouse.
Review overview
This variety is happily grown both by summer residents in small plots and by farmers on an industrial scale. Such popularity is due to the high yield of the variety, long-term keeping quality and transportability of tomatoes. The disadvantage that many summer residents and farmers point out is the appearance of sprouts inside the berries during long-term storage.
