In early spring, many gardeners and farmers face the problem of choosing a fruitful, stress-resistant and non-capricious tomato variety that is to be grown in the open field or in a greenhouse. One of the varieties that grows under all the vagaries of the weather and give good yields is the mid-season tomato Lazy.
Breeding history
This tomato variety was created in 2010 by a group of Siberian breeders led by Postnikova and Ugarova. Introduced into Rosreestr in 2017. In the same year, the culture was allowed to be used. The mid-season variety has been zoned to all regions of the Russian Federation.
Description of the variety
Tomatoes Lazytayka is a low-growing plant of the determinant type, reaching a height of 50-60 cm.The bush is characterized by compactness, moderate thickening of dark green foliage, a strong central stem, not very strong branches, sagging under weighty tomatoes, a developed root system, as well as an inflorescence of a complex type ... Each fruit cluster is 5-6 ovaries (tomatoes).
When growing a culture, it is recommended not to forget about the timely removal of extra stepsons, as well as the lower leaves. In addition, the side branches must be tied to a support, otherwise they will tilt and break under the weight of large berries.
The main qualities of the fruit
The tomato variety attracts even with its appearance. They belong to the class of large-fruited species. Tomatoes have a beautiful heart-shaped shape with a slight ribbing and a uniform bright red color at the stage of absolute ripeness. Unripe tomatoes are light green in color with a dark speck at the base. There are also raspberry-red tomatoes. The average weight of a berry is 162 g, but berries often weigh 200-400 grams. The peel of the fruit is smooth and dense, therefore the transportability and safety of tomatoes are guaranteed for a long time.
In addition, tomatoes are endowed with considerable keeping quality, and are also not prone to cracking. The tomato variety belongs to the universal, so they are eaten fresh, in salads, canned and, of course, processed - sauces, pastes, mashed potatoes, juices.
Taste characteristics
The excellent taste of tomatoes Lazy is their advantage. The tomato tastes sweet and sour and aromatic. Scarlet-colored flesh is characterized as fleshy and juicy, with few seeds. Sometimes white streaks can be traced in the pulp. Despite the high juiciness, there is no wateriness in the vegetable.
Ripening and fruiting
This tomato species is a bright representative of mid-season varieties. It takes only 95-100 days from germination to ripening of the first tomatoes on the branches. Fruits ripen early and amicably. The active period, when tomatoes ripen in large quantities, falls on July-August, but in general, fruiting is somewhat prolonged. It is characteristic that unripe berries can be removed from the bushes, which will perfectly ripen on the windowsill of a house or apartment.
Yield
The productivity of the species is at a high level. Observing the basic agrotechnical rules, about 5.4 kg of fruits are harvested from 1 m2 per season. Given the short stature of the bushes, this is an excellent indicator of productivity.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Cultivation of the culture takes place through seedlings. Sowing seeds is carried out 45-55 days before transplanting to a permanent place. It is better to sow in the second half of March. The seed is pre-sorted and disinfected. Bushes grow at room temperature + 15 ... 20 and sufficient lighting (more than 14 hours / day).
Diving (planting bushes in individual pots) of seedlings is carried out at the stage of appearance of 2-3 leaves. 10-12 days before transplanting, you need to harden the plant, which will simplify the process of adaptation to new growing conditions.
It is recommended to plant bushes in a garden or greenhouse in May-June. The air and soil should already be warmed up enough, and the threat of nighttime temperature drops behind.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
The planting pattern and planting density of bushes must be taken into account when growing nightshade crops. Due to its compactness, 4-6 tomato bushes can be planted per 1 m2. The optimal scheme for planting is considered to be 40x60 cm.
Growing and care
The area where the tomatoes will be grown must be well prepared - weed-free, moistened, dug up to improve air permeability, and fertilized. The best place is considered to be where garlic, carrots, cabbage or legumes previously grew. This variety is a little picky about the quality of the soil, so it is better to plant in a loose, fertile soil with low acidity. It is strictly forbidden to plant tomatoes in the area where potatoes have grown for the past few years.
Plant agrotechnics consists of standard procedures: watering, fertilizing, removing unnecessary stepchildren and leaves, pinching the top, obligatory garter to low trellises or pegs, as well as protection from invasions of pests and viruses.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
Tomatoes have a powerful immunity to many diseases - alternaria, fusarium wilting, verticillosis, late blight and macrosporiosis. Among the insects that harm an adult plant, one can distinguish a bear and slugs. The fungus sometimes affects only tomatoes growing in greenhouse conditions.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
Lazy Tomatoes are endowed with good stress resistance and cold resistance. In addition, they can withstand extreme temperature fluctuations. Excessive heat and prolonged drought have a bad effect on the development of the plant. It is also worth controlling the level of humidity, since its excess can cause a number of diseases in bushes and berries.
Growing regions
You can grow this tomato species in any area. In regions with short summers and risky farming, it is better to plant crops in greenhouses, and in the south - in open ground. In addition to Russia, tomatoes are grown in Ukraine and Belarus.
Review overview
Despite the "youth" of the variety, he managed to attract the attention of both summer residents and farmers. This is due to the unpretentious care of the variety, its stable and good yields, excellent taste of tomatoes, their transportability and long keeping quality.
Along with numerous advantages, the species has some disadvantages, including: low crop productivity in regions where the temperature is above +30, as well as whimsicalness to the quality of the soil.
