Tomato of Ukrainian selection Legend of Tarasenko is famous for its beautiful and strong fruits that are not prone to cracking. This makes it a great choice for canning whole fruits or making lecho and other snacks. The variety became the last of the species bred by the amateur originator F.M.Tarasenko.
Description of the variety
The shrub grows above average in size. It can reach 150-180 cm in height and is determinant. Leafiness of medium intensity. Shoots are strong, not prone to breaking off. The leaf plates are light green, without pubescence. 5-7 fruit brushes are formed on the stem.
The main qualities of the fruit
Medium-sized tomatoes with dense and fleshy pulp, as well as strong bright red skin, reach a mass of 90-110 g. Fruits are collected in clusters of 20-25 pieces, have a flat-round shape with a pronounced spout.
Taste characteristics
The sweet taste of the fruit is pleasant when consumed fresh.
Ripening and fruiting
The tomato is mid-season, reaches maturity 115 days after germination. The crop is harvested between July and August.
Yield
Legend Tarasenko is a high-yielding variety that yields more than 18-20 kg of fruits / sq. m.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Seeding starts at standard times. The best choice would be the period from March 1 to March 15. After 60-70 days, the mature plants can be transferred to the ground. Depending on the region, this deadline is May 15 - June 5.
The seed material is preliminarily prepared, discarded, heated and disinfected. It is recommended to soak the purchased material in a growth stimulator to increase germination. Pre-curing the seeds in a damp gauze will also be helpful. When sprouts appear, they are transferred to peat cassettes or prepared containers.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
For plants of this variety, the planting pattern of 60x50 cm is considered optimal. On 1 m2 there are 2-3 plants, not too thickening the beds.
Growing and care
Tomato Legend Tarasenko needs some care. The variety requires a garter after transplanting into the ground or greenhouse. The abundant education of stepchildren also requires attention. They are cut off, leaving no more than 2-3 cm so that the sleeping kidney does not give new ones. Formation is carried out in 1-2 stems, depending on the thickening of the plantings.Seedlings also require picking. It is carried out when 2 real leaves appear. Then the seedlings are grown in separate containers until they are transferred to a permanent place in the greenhouse.
The preparation of the landing pits is carried out in advance. The holes are made about 50 cm in diameter with a depth of 400 mm. The bottom is lined with a mixture of soil, humus and wood ash, superphosphate will also be useful. In each large hole, 2 bushes are planted (along the edges). Then it is recommended to pour young tomatoes with a warm solution of manganese at a concentration of 3 g per bucket of water.
The next 2 weeks the tomatoes will acclimate. After this period, you can go to the standard mode of fertilizing and watering. It is necessary to moisten the soil under normal conditions no more than 1 time per week. As soon as the topsoil begins to dry out, you can repeat the watering. The average rate of water consumption per bush is at least 7 liters.
Moistened soil must be loosened. It should not be crusty. In arid regions, mulching the ground in a greenhouse where tomatoes grow will be beneficial. You will also need to pick off all the lower leaves under the first flower brush on a weekly basis. This will save the strength of the plant for the formation of fruits, their ripening.
Fertilization also needs to be done on schedule. The first stage is carried out 14 days after planting. Nitrogen-rich fertilizing is introduced into the soil. The next mineral fertilizing, complex, is carried out when the ovaries appear, and then another one follows - with the beginning of fruit ripening.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
Proper agricultural technology reduces the risk of disease in tomatoes of the Legenda Tarasenko variety. It is important to observe crop rotation without planting tomato bushes in one place for two years in a row. Also, do not neglect the disinfection of seed material, the fight against weeds. Especially dangerous for the bushes is the defeat of Fusarium, which often happens with a sharp change in weather. If signs of wilting of leaves are detected, it is worth spraying with preparations containing copper.
You should also pay attention to the signs of late blight or gray rot. In the first case, the most effective treatment will be with special chemicals. Among the folk remedies for phytophthora, the most popular are compositions based on kefir, iodine and milk, as well as an infusion of garlic arrows. Gray rot is especially dangerous at the end of the season when the weather is cooler. You can fight its signs with the help of the "Barrier" drug or its analogues.
Pest insects can also be dangerous. Most often, the Legend Tarasenko tomato is affected by spider mites and whiteflies. You can destroy pests by spraying the bushes with Karbofos.During the fruiting period, tomatoes can be sprayed with infusion of yarrow, dandelion or horseradish root. Such treatment will not harm the condition of the plants.
