A tomato called Red Delight attracted the attention of Russian summer residents with its colorful and neat fruits. Such vegetables will become a decoration of any festive table. Before choosing this variety for cultivation, you must definitely familiarize yourself with its agricultural technology and other features.
Description of the variety
The hybrid plant has acquired an indeterminate type of growth. The harvested crop is ideal for whole-fruit canning and other harvesting. They can also be enjoyed fresh, enjoying the expressive taste. The variety is grown both in the open air and in greenhouses (film greenhouses). Bushes are tall. Leaves of a standard green color, medium in size. The shape is typical tomato. The inflorescences are simple.
The main qualities of the fruit
Like other unripe tomatoes, the fruits of the Red Lokum variety remain green with a dark spot where the stalk is attached. Ripe vegetables turn bright red. The color is uniform. Due to their small size, tomatoes fall into the cherry category. In weight, they gain about 26 to 30 grams. The shape is round, sometimes there is a slight ribbing. When grown correctly, all fruits grow to the same size.
In one fruit cyst, from 8 to 10 vegetables ripen at the same time. Tomatoes are covered with a shiny glossy skin, under which a dense pulp is hidden. Fruits are resistant to cracking.
Taste characteristics
The gastronomic characteristics are high. Ripe tomatoes are considered dessert, with a pronounced sweet taste.
Ripening and fruiting
Hybrid Red Turkish delight belongs to the mid-season. The fruit ripening period ranges from 95 to 100 days.
Yield
The yield of this variety is considered high. From one square meter of the plot, from 7.2 to 7.5 kilograms of tomatoes are harvested. The exact numbers depend on many indicators: care (watering, irrigation, fertilization), climate, growing conditions.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
The seedlings are transferred to open ground 60 days after the appearance of the first shoots. By this time, the soil should warm up, and the early spring frosts should completely recede. When transferring seedlings to a greenhouse, work can be done a little earlier. You can germinate seeds yourself. Sowing is carried out in containers with a volume of at least 400 grams. Drainage holes are required to drain excess moisture.
The work is performed according to the following scheme.
- A homogeneous soil 3-4 centimeters thick is poured into a compact saucer or plate. You can use disposable plastic dishes. The soil is moistened.
- A grid with cells of 1-2 centimeters is marked on the surface. The grains are laid out along the lines.
- Sprinkle the seed with a small amount of soil (1 centimeter thick layer) and moisten it again.
- To prevent the soil from drying out, the saucers are covered or placed in a tight plastic bag. The shelter is removed when shoots appear.
When growing seedlings in one container, a pick is carried out. Young seedlings are planted in separate pots after two full-fledged leaves appear.
You can also sow without further picking. To do this, you need to do the work in this way.
- The seeds are germinated in separate flower pots, which are 2/3 full of soil. The land is irrigated.
- After that, a small hole is made into which the seed is placed. Sprinkle the grains with soil and moisten again.
- To create a greenhouse effect, the container is covered with polyethylene. It will also prevent the soil from drying out.
For the full development of seedlings, a sufficient amount of light is needed. After the formation of the entrances, experienced summer residents advise to provide it with round-the-clock illumination for 3-5 days. After daylight hours, cut to 18-20 hours (with the onset of the fourth week), and then until 11-12 hours (in the fifth week of cultivation). For lighting, special lamps are used, which can be purchased at gardening stores.
Young plants are irrigated 1-2 times a week. This scheme is followed for three weeks. After, up to the planting of bushes, watering is increased up to 3-4 times a week. It is also recommended to spray with a spray (2-3 times a week).
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
Between the rows of tall bushes, you need to leave a gap of 60-70 centimeters, and between the plants themselves - 40-60 centimeters.
Growing and care
When irrigating, care must be taken that moisture does not get on the shoots and leaves. The bushes are watered infrequently, but abundantly. In hot and dry seasons, watering is performed 2-3 times a week, the rest of the time it will be enough 1-2 times a week.
Plants can be formed into 1 or 2-3 stems. A garter must be carried out so that the shoots do not lean to the ground under the weight of vegetables and do not break. Periodically, the soil is loosened and the site is cleaned from weeds, which take nutrients and substances from the soil. If stepchildren are formed in small numbers, it is not necessary to carry out pinching. Otherwise, the lateral processes are removed.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
