The varieties bred in the 2000s have long become familiar to gardeners. However, it is impossible to know all of them. It is worth carefully studying the features of a particular culture before disembarking. This rule also applies to the handsome tomato.
Breeding history
This plant appeared as a result of developments of the Tomagros selection and seed-growing company. The project was supervised by such breeders as Andreeva, Nazina, Ushakova. The official admission for the use of culture for consumer purposes was given in 2008. Since then, it has become one of the promising options for amateur gardening.
Description of the variety
Handsome is a good example of an indeterminate hybrid. It is cultivated both in simple vegetable gardens and in greenhouses under glass. Growing in greenhouses under plastic is also quite possible. The height of the bushes reaches 1.5 m. The long green leaves of Handsome are moderately wide.
For the cultivation of such a tomato, you can use the grounds:
- Siberia;
- Volga region;
- Moscow region;
- Ural;
- The Far East;
- north of the European part of Russia;
- North Caucasus.
The main qualities of the fruit
When the crop only produces berries, they are plain green in color. Ripe crops invariably take on a red color. The average mass of tomatoes is determined with great accuracy - 0.087 kg. Therefore, we can say that there will be no problems with fruits of different sizes. In shape, the tomatoes themselves resemble a cylinder, which also contains a remarkable "nose". From 7 to 12 berries are formed on the brush.
Taste characteristics
The sweetness of Handsome is invariably confirmed by all farmers who have to deal with him. Its fruit tastes roughly in line with the general expectation of tomatoes. The pulp is quite firm. In this sense, it is, as they say, "an amateur".
Ripening and fruiting
The Krasavchik variety belongs to the mid-early group. Usually, 104 days pass between the appearance of the first green shoots and the attainment of ripeness of the crop. However, fluctuations in conditions in specific years can, of course, make significant adjustments to this regime.
Yield
The plant belongs to the high-yielding group. It will be able to give up to 13.6 kg of berries per 1 sq. m. A similar level is achieved, however, only with an impeccably thought out agriculture.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
It is necessary to prepare containers and the ground in them 1.5-2 months before disembarking in open ground. The specific dates are determined each time individually, taking into account the climatic regime of the region. But even an accurate knowledge of it and the analysis of long-term weather forecasts, together with the connection of dacha intuition, does not always help. It is imperative to remember that unforeseen circumstances can always arise. The approximate dates are the second half of March.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
On the beds, the bushes are arranged according to the rule of 500x400 mm. It is allowed to plant 3 or 4 bushes per 1 m2.The specific density is selected individually and taking into account what will come first - total fertility or ease of care.
Growing and care
The measures for taking care of the Krasavchik tomato are not very remarkable. This culture definitely needs to be pinned and given a certain shape. Also, the plant will have to be tied up. It is necessary to form a culture strictly in 1 stem, all other options simply do not deserve consideration. Cracking of the fruit is unlikely, but it is nevertheless necessary to exclude the conditions under which it can occur.
Resistance to adverse weather conditions, including heat, is also not worth absolutizing. Only those gardeners who know how to properly prepare for such situations will be able to achieve success. Seedlings dive in the phase of the second full-fledged leaf. The bushes are watered with warm water after sunset or at dawn. Loosening and weeding of the soil is strictly mandatory for this variety.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
