For lovers of exotic and cocktail types of tomatoes, a godsend will be the hybrid variety Kotya, which grows well and gives high yields in vegetable gardens and in film greenhouses. Both a beginner and an experienced summer resident will cope with the cultivation of tomatoes.
Breeding history
A hybrid variety with a beautiful name Kotya is the brainchild of domestic breeders (Blokin-Mechtalin and Kiramov). The species was created in 2016, and entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation and allowed for use in 2018. It is recommended for cultivation of the nightshade crop in all regions of the country and in open ground, and in different types of greenhouses.
Description of the variety
Tomato Kotya is a tall plant of an indeterminate type of growth, reaching a height of 200 cm. An unusual bush is endowed with strong stems, moderate thickening of dark green foliage, a powerful root system and a simple type of inflorescence. The first inflorescence is laid above 6-7 leaves, and the subsequent ones through 1-2 internodes. Up to 9 ovaries (tomatoes) are formed in each fruit cluster. Experts recommend the formation of a bush in 2 stems, the regular removal of new stepsons and the obligatory garter to a powerful support, otherwise deformation and breaking of the trunk and branches cannot be avoided.
The main qualities of the fruit
Tomato Kotya is incredibly tasty. The berries are sweet, without a hint of sourness. The variety stands out for its unusual color of tomatoes - bright yellow with pronounced orange stripes. When unripe, tomatoes are light green in color. The shape of the tomatoes is also non-standard - cylindrical, with a barely noticeable ribbing of the surface and the presence of a "nose".
Tomatoes grow to small sizes - the average fruit weight is 35-40 grams. The peel of the berries is ideally smooth, of medium density, but elastic, well protecting against cracking and providing transportability. Keeping life of tomatoes is long, but subject to storage conditions.
Taste characteristics
Excellent taste is one of the many advantages of the variety. Cherry tomatoes are endowed with a bright sweetness, without any acidity. The flesh of cocktail tomatoes is fleshy, dense, juicy, very sugary, with a small amount of small seeds. The fruit has a pleasant aroma with noticeable fruity notes.
The Kotya variety is universal, therefore it is eaten fresh, canned, processed into juices and dressings. Tomatoes are especially good for whole-fruited seaming.
Ripening and fruiting
Kotya's nightshade culture is a vivid representative of early-ripening hybrid tomatoes. From the moment of full germination to the ripening of the first berries, only 95 days pass. Tomatoes ripen together, so the harvest is harvested with branches. The fruiting period is long, so you can enjoy dessert tomatoes from the garden for a long time. The active phase of fruiting occurs in July-September.
If desired, the berries can be picked a little unripe, since they ripen perfectly at room temperature. This period may shift slightly due to the peculiarities of the climate of the growing zone and the growing conditions (garden bed or greenhouse).
Yield
The crop yields very high. Fulfilling all the recommendations of specialists, as well as the main rules of agricultural technology, during the fruiting season, up to 9 kg of tomatoes can be removed from 1 m2.Gardeners and summer residents measure yields with bushes - on average, about 4-5 kg of tomatoes are harvested from one bush.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out in February-March (60-65 days before planting in a permanent growing environment). For seeds to grow, you need a loose and fertilized peat soil with a neutral acidity level. In order not to carry out the diving procedure, you can sow the seeds immediately in separate pots. It is possible to accelerate the emergence of sprouts by providing a greenhouse effect, using glass or polyethylene for this. Under the right conditions, the sprouts will appear after 4-5 days. For cultivation, the recommended temperature is considered to be + 22 ... 24.
Before planting in a greenhouse or garden beds, it is recommended to harden the bushes for 8-12 days, which will allow the plants to adapt to new growing conditions as quickly and stress-free as possible. Planting in the ground should be carried out in May-June (depending on the climate in the region and growing conditions).
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
When growing a crop, it is imperative to observe the correct density and pattern, which affects the quality of plant growth and care. Planting density is considered ideal for the Kotya variety at the rate of 3-4 bushes per 1 m2. The optimal scheme for landing is considered to be a 70x40 cm scheme.
Growing and care
The site for planting a plant must be prepared in advance - it must be dug up, which will improve air permeability, cleaned of weeds and other debris, apply fertilizer, and moisten. The best, in the opinion of the agrarians, will be the land plot where dill, cabbage, and zucchini used to grow. The yield of the variety directly depends on how much the rules of agricultural technology are followed. If the stem height has reached 2 meters, then it must be cut.
Care is usual: watering with settled water, applying mineral and organic fertilizers, loosening the soil, forming, garters, pinching, prevention of viruses and insect infestations. If tomatoes are grown in a greenhouse, then it is imperative to ventilate the room.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
The culture has a high immunity to many tomato diseases, but preventive measures are recommended. A weak solution of potassium permanganate will help prevent late blight, which is used to treat the plant 10-12 days after transplanting to the garden. The tomato is practically not exposed to diseases such as the tobacco mosaic virus and bacterial leaf spot. Spraying with a solution from a decoction of wormwood and laundry soap will help protect against the invasion of pests.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
The variety is stress-resistant. It perfectly tolerates temperature fluctuations, is cold-resistant, develops well in extreme heat, does not suffer from drought. The only thing that is undesirable for the variety is gusty wind and drafts.
Growing regions
Tomato Kotya can grow in any climatic zone - from north to south. In addition to the territory of Russia, tomatoes are massively grown in Ukraine.
Review overview
Despite the "youth" of this variety, it is loved by both summer residents and farmers who grow tomatoes for commercial purposes. The culture attracts attention with abundant harvests, excellent taste, simple agricultural technology and versatility. Of the disadvantages of the variety, one can single out the need for pinching and tying bushes.
