Tomatoes are a popular crop in home gardens. Many gardeners are happy to experiment with new varieties. A good solution would be to grow a Queen hybrid with large fruits in the garden.
Breeding history
The author of this wonderful vegetable is V. I. Blokin-Mechtalin, a well-known Russian breeder and director of the partner agricultural firm. The variety was bred recently, entered into the State Register in 2019.
Description of the variety
The queen is a tall shrub up to 2 m with an indeterminate type of growth. The leaves of the plant are of medium length and dark green. The first cluster with fruits can be found between 9 and 11 leaves. In clusters with simple inflorescences, 4-6 fruits ripen. The stalk has an articulation.
In technical ripeness, the berries are green; as they ripen, they become deep pink. In this case, there is no green spot on the stalk.
The main qualities of the fruit
The Queen belongs to the beef tomato group, that is, this plant with large fruits. The average weight of this variety is 300 g. Their shape is flat-round, they have medium-sized ribs. The multichamber pulp is dense, which contributes to good transportability and marketability, provides keeping quality up to 2 weeks.
Taste characteristics
Experts assess the taste of the fruit as good and excellent. Tomatoes are best eaten fresh. Whole fruit preservation will be very difficult due to the large size of the berries.
Ripening and fruiting
The queen, whose ripening period is 105-115 days, belongs to the early varieties. Under favorable conditions and adherence to agricultural technology, it will delight you with delicious fruits in July.
Yield
The hybrid belongs to the productive species: from 1 m2 you can harvest up to 18.9 kg of tomatoes.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Beef tomatoes are grown, as a rule, with the help of seedlings. Sowing seeds should be done in late February - early March. If planting was carried out in boxes, after the appearance of 4 true leaves, the seedlings must be dived. To avoid this time-consuming, careful procedure, it is advisable to use peat tablets.
In the room where the seedlings are kept, a constant temperature regime should be observed within the range of + 20 ... 23 ° C. The room must be regularly ventilated, avoiding drafts. Water the young plants with water at room temperature.
When the plants have reached a height of 30 cm, they can be transferred to a permanent place. This usually happens 55-60 days after sowing the seeds. By this time, the plants already have 7 leaves, and their roots are sufficiently formed and will be able to adapt to new conditions.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
When planting seedlings in a permanent place, it is worth observing the planting scheme 70x45 cm.
Growing and care
Although the hybrid is resistant to extreme weather conditions, it will tolerate high and low temperatures without problems, it should be grown in film greenhouses or using film shelters. Growing in the open field will lead to crushing of the fruit and a change in their taste. A tall bush with heavy fruits will need a garter. Growing one-dimensional large tomatoes will also be facilitated by regular pinching and the formation of a plant into 1 stem.
The Queen's agricultural technology is not much different from that of other beef varieties. For the fruits to fill well, they need good watering. And also do not forget about nitrogen and organic fertilizing. In hot periods, fertilizers containing potassium should be applied.
Plants will also need good lighting and should not shade each other. Therefore, experienced gardeners choose sunny places for tomatoes on the site and follow the planting scheme.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
Like many other hybrid varieties, the Queen is resistant to the main diseases of tomatoes. She is not afraid of diseases such as verticillium, fusarium wilting, tobacco mosaic virus and other viral infections. However, with inadequate agricultural technology, high humidity, non-observance of the greenhouse ventilation regime, fungal or viral infection can occur. Viral infections are recognized by dried or twisted leaves, changes in their color, slow growth, flowering and fruiting. Diseased plants are best destroyed.
With fungal diseases, the stems, leaves and fruits become covered with dark spots. In such cases, treatment with Bordeaux liquid, copper-containing fungicidal preparations can help. And also harmful insects can attack tomatoes, for example, whitefly, aphids, spider mites. The roots can be damaged by a bear. A suitable ready-made insecticide can be obtained from the store.
Growing regions
Since the hybrid is resistant to extreme weather conditions and does not react to temperature extremes, it is suitable for cultivation in almost any region of the Russian Federation.
