Those varieties of tomatoes that have ceased to be novelties, but have not yet entered the “golden fund” of selection, are quite popular. This is exactly what the Klondike tomato is. Therefore, getting to know this culture will be quite the right decision for most gardeners.

Breeding history

The Klondike tomato is one of the results of the work of the already well-known agrarian company "Aelita". The breeders Nastenko, Kachainik and Gulkin were working on the project. The plant was officially registered in 2013.

Description of the variety

The Klondike is one of the indeterminate cultures. It can be grown both in ordinary gardens and under plastic. The bushes reach a considerable height of 1.8 m. Large dark green leaves are formed on their branches.

The main qualities of the fruit

You can transport the crop over a long distance. Initially, the fruits will be light green in color. No spots were found on the peduncle. In a ripe state, the tomato is raspberry - and again, spotting in that place is not traced. Tomatoes will be large and usually weigh 0.25-0.35 kg. They resemble a flat circle in shape.

These tomatoes grow on intermediate inflorescences. The peduncles are not articulated. The rind is thin and dense. The official description also emphasizes the decent keeping quality of the crop.

Taste characteristics

Berries of this variety are actively consumed fresh. They are also used to make juice, ketchup and tomato paste. Moderately firm flesh. Tasters note its sweetness.

Ripening and fruiting

Klondike lives up to its name. It begins to bear fruit quite early. Under normal conditions, plants will delight farmers with a harvest 110 days after the formation of green shoots. It is possible to remove the fruits from July to September. The specific time frame depends on a number of factors that cannot be predicted in advance.

Yield

The collection can reach 13 and even 14 kg of fruits per 1 sq. m. We must still remember that it is impossible to achieve a good result without active gardening work. The seeds are advised to be thoroughly checked and disinfected to avoid the spread of infections along with them.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

It is imperative to sow seeds in seedling containers from 1 to 15 March. With good development of seedlings, she will be ready for relocation to open ground between May 15 and June 5. The exact decision depends a lot on the actual weather. They always take into account how much the seedlings have time to get stronger. Also, when planting early in the northern regions, one should not forget about the soil temperature.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

It is recommended to plant a Klondike tomato in a 600x500 mm system. At the same time, it is allowed to place 3 or 4 plants per 1 m2. The choice of density is determined by the gardeners' priorities. It is better to plant a little less and lose a little in the harvest, rather than complicate your work.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

Traditionally, for many tomato crops, care is already quite demanding. You will need to pinch the plants and shape them carefully. Again, it will be problematic to do without tying to a support. Formation is usually carried out in 1 or 2 stems. You will have to water the bushes with warm water on average 1 time in 5 days.

Weed grasses are weeded out at their first appearance. Top dressing ensures excellent fertility. For a similar purpose, both organic and mineral compounds are used. The use of the popular Kemira Lux gives excellent results. Manure is a good choice for organic fertilizers, but it must be rotated.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The risk of cracking the fruit of a Klondike tomato is minimal. The threat can be:

  • aphid;
  • whitefly;
  • spider mites;
  • gray rot.
Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

In this regard, the variety demonstrates extraordinary quality. It is able to thrive successfully even with significant shading. Cold and drought also pose no particular risk to it. Only a little can be done by the farmers themselves for planting. But even this "little thing" often determines whether a good harvest will be obtained or not.

Growing regions

Traditionally, this tomato is already recommended for:

  • Western Siberia;
  • Ural and Moscow region lands;
  • lower and middle Volga;
  • Eastern Siberia;
  • The Far East;
  • Chernozem region;
  • middle lane;
  • North Caucasus.
