Among summer residents, small-fruited varieties such as cherry have always been successful. One of these is Red Caramel. Bright scarlet small tomatoes are delicious and sweet, and clusters of round small fruits look decorative and can decorate any area. In addition, the product is universal, it is used for salads and any whole-fruit preparations. The variety is considered one of the sweetest among cherry tomatoes. But the value is not only this: the hybrid ripens early and bears fruit for a long time, which is also liked by gardeners.
Breeding history
Tomato Caramel red - a hybrid of the 1st generation - bred by Russian breeders from the Sedek agricultural firm. The authors of the culture were famous specialists Lukyanenko A.N., Dubinin S.V., Dubinina I.N. The hybrid variety was included in the State Register for the Russian Federation in 2007, it is recommended for different regions for growing under film or in open beds in private household plots.
Description of the variety
Despite the fact that these are cherry tomatoes, the plant is powerful, the type of growth is indeterminate. The bushes reach a height of 1.7–2 m. The leaves are dark green, their size is medium. Simple inflorescence, stalk with articulation.
The main qualities of the fruit
Cherry fruits are round, firm, without ribs. In each long brush of Red Caramel, there are from 25 to 30 small tomatoes (sometimes up to 50).
Unripe tomatoes are dark green with a darker spot at the stalk. Ripe tomatoes are bright, red. Small, the weight of each berry is 30 g. Each tomato has 2 seed nests. A feature of the variety is a long period of preservation of brushes removed from the branch without loss of quality.
Taste characteristics
Red caramel is the owner of the sweetest fruit with a dessert flavor among cherry tomatoes. Fresh tomatoes will be a great treat for children, and they can also decorate any buffet or festive table. Lettuce tomatoes are also suitable for whole-fruit preservation - solo or as part of an assortment.
Ripening and fruiting
Mid-early hybrid (ripening occurs in 98-105 days) also has a quite long period of fruiting.
Yield
The harvest of marketable fruits is collected stably in the amount of 4.8 kg / sq. m.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Red Caramel for seedlings is sown in the 2nd half of March. You can plant in beds or in a greenhouse after May 15. The seedlings of the hybrid are resistant to cold, therefore they are not afraid of minor cold snaps, if they are short-lived.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
For 1 sq. m plantings you can place no more than 3 bushes of Red Caramel. The optimal layout for planting 40X70 cm.
Growing and caring
Hybrid Caramel red is intended primarily for protected ground. When planting grown seedlings on a permanent place of growth, wood ash or any complex fertilizer is laid out in the holes. After planting, the sprouts must be watered. The culture requires formation and pinching in the process of growing. And also a garter of tall bushes with heavy bunches will be necessary.
A tall trunk is best cultivated on a strong support. Red caramel is formed in 1 or 2 trunks. Experts also recommend removing the lower leaves to provide more air and light to the fruit. Cherry tomatoes are watered only with warm water after the top soil layer has completely dried. Every 2 weeks, the hybrid must be fed with complex mineral fertilizers, which can be alternated with organic matter (diluted bird droppings or mullein).
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
The hybrid variety Red Caramel is resistant to many ailments of nightshade crops, such as:
- verticillosis;
- apical and root rot;
- corking of roots;
- gray leaf spot;
- powdery mildew.
However, despite the resistance to disease, preventive measures should not be neglected.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
The considered tomato crop perfectly tolerates not only temperature fluctuations, but also low illumination.
