Young varieties of tomatoes are becoming more and more popular among gardeners. Tomato Intuition is one of these crops.
Breeding history
The development of the variety began in the second half of the 90s at the Gavrish agricultural company. The authors were domestic breeders Gavrish S.F., Morev V.V., Amcheslavskaya E.V., Gorkovets S.A., Korolev V.V. The tomato was entered into the state register in 1998. Tatarstan, the central regions and the Krasnoyarsk Territory were then considered the main regions for growing crops. Now the variety can be grown in any region of Russia.
Description of the variety
The hybrid belongs to indeterminate crops, that is, it is a variety with unlimited bush growth. The stem length reaches 200 cm or more. Therefore, many gardeners advise to pinch the crown at the required height.
The stem is powerful, thick, green, with slight pubescence. It is necessary to tie such a trunk to pegs or a trellis system. The roots of the bush develop well and go deep into the ground. There are not too many branches on the plant, as well as foliage. Leaves are medium in size, dark green in color, matte. Midsection and veins are present. The back plate is lighter than the front. From drought and heat, the leaves can curl inward.
The recommended number of stems during formation is 2. The first ovary appears at the level of 8-9 leaves from the ground. Further - every 3. On one hand, 6-8 fruits are formed.
The advantages include:
- taste qualities;
- yield;
- shelf life;
- transportability;
- immunity;
- universal application.
Disadvantages:
- the need for pinching and garters;
- bush height;
- the inability to obtain seeds directly from tomatoes.
The main qualities of the fruit
The berries are round, weighing from 79 to 92 g, 7 cm in diameter. The skin is smooth, firm, with a slight sheen. Although it is thin, the fruit does not crack from this. The color of the peel will be deep red. Unripe tomatoes have a light green tone.
The pulp is pink, tender, fleshy, firm and not too watery. 3-4 chambers are formed inside. The seeds in them are small and completely empty.
Taste characteristics
According to gardeners, the fruits have a sweet and sour taste with a characteristic tomato aroma.
Ripening and fruiting
Intuition refers to mid-season crops, the ripening period is from 94 to 117 days. Although fruit ovaries form at the same time, fruiting will be extended. It lasts from June to August.
Yield
Up to 25.6 kg of tomatoes are obtained from 1 square meter. Productivity directly depends on weather conditions and agricultural care.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Depending on the region of cultivation and place (open or closed ground), the sowing time of seeds may differ. On average, this is the end of February or the first days of March. First you need to prepare containers. The earth is put there, supplemented with top dressing or compost. The depth of the pits is 2 cm. The soil is spilled with water.
The seeds must be soaked in water and processed in a potassium permanganate solution. It is worth noting that when buying seeds, special attention should be paid to the label, which indicates whether additional processing of the material has been carried out. If so, no other stimulant solution should be used.
After sowing the seeds, the soil is spilled with warm water with a weak concentration of sodium humate and covered with a film. You can store the boxes on the windowsill. The seeds will hatch after 7 days. At this moment, the shelter is removed. It is important that the temperature is +22 degrees.
During seed germination and before picking, it is very important to observe the watering regime and in no case overflow the seedlings. Otherwise, the seedlings can pick up a fungal disease (black leg) and the plant will die. It is best to water the seedlings with a spray bottle. The pick is carried out after the formation of several strong leaves.
In early May, seedlings can be taken outside for adaptation. Bushes no more than 35 cm high should be transplanted into the ground. A higher stem will take root for a long time and often hurt. Therefore, at the stage of forming bushes, it is necessary to monitor the intensity of growth.
On average, 50-55 days should pass between sowing seeds and planting in the ground.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
The site must be dug up and spilled abundantly with water. The pits are made shallow - 15 cm.
It is worth planting the bushes in a checkerboard pattern and according to the 40x60 cm scheme. This is necessary, since the root system of the variety is very actively developing and goes not only in depth, but also in different directions. If you plant the bushes closer, then the roots will not have enough space, and the plant will not develop correctly due to insufficient amounts of minerals.
Growing and care
In order for the variety to bear fruit well and be healthy, some points must be remembered.
- For watering, you can draw up a schedule - 1-2 times every 7 days. In drier weather, the amount of watering increases. On average, one bush should take 1.5 liters of warm, settled water. Watering is carried out at the root. Leaves should not be poured, as fungal diseases may develop.
- It is necessary to fertilize the bushes 4 times per season. The first feeding is done 1 week after planting the seedlings in the ground. It is best to fertilize with nitrogen-containing minerals. When forming inflorescences, potassium and phosphorus can be used. The following dressings are made at the time of fruit ovary and during the fruiting period.
- You can tie it to a trellis or pegs immediately after disembarking. Then the stem will not tilt to the ground, it will become easier to remove unnecessary stepsons. You can also tie the crown to the pegs.
- Passion-making is carried out as needed. A few weeks before the end of the growing season, gardeners recommend pinching the crown of the stem. This will help the plant to direct all the beneficial minerals and forces to the ripening and enrichment of the formed fruits, and not to the growth of the bush.
- Loosening is carried out once every 2 weeks. Do not loosen the soil too deeply, as there is a chance to damage the roots. At the moment of loosening, weeds are removed.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
Tomato Intuition has good immunity, but with improper agrotechnical care, the culture can get sick with the following diseases:
- late blight;
- gray rot;
- olive spot.
The main pests:
- whitefly;
- Colorado beetle;
- spider mite;
- slugs.
To avoid fungal diseases, it is necessary to spray the bushes with insecticides and fungicides for prevention.
