Tomato Mushroom basket was registered in Rosreestr in 2008, and two years later received a State patent as a special achievement of breeding. The variety quickly won the sympathy of summer residents. It is unpretentious, the fruits are large and tasty. But even this is not important in him. Tomatoes are appreciated for their decorative effect, for the original exotic shape of the fruit.

Breeding history

The variety was bred by Siberian breeders V.N.Dederko and O.V. Postnikova. It was created for cultivation in the northern regions of Russia. The variety is hardy, disease resistant, withstands frost and temperature fluctuations. The seeds are distributed by the Siberian Garden company.

Description of the variety

By the type of growth, the plant is indeterminate. Tall. In the open field it grows up to 150-180 cm, in a greenhouse up to 200 cm. The variety is standard, that is, it has a powerful thick stem. The root system is well developed, but it does not go deep into the ground.

The leafiness is medium, the distance between the leaves is not long. Leaves are medium in size, dark green. The first fruit cluster is formed over 4-5 leaves, the rest every two leaves. The inflorescences are simple, the stalk is articulated.

Tomatoes Mushroom basket suffer severely from the heat. Therefore, in the southern regions, it can only be grown outdoors. In other regions, it is also grown in greenhouses. They must be well ventilated. The heat can cause the ovaries to be shed.

The main qualities of the fruit

The number of fruits per cluster is 3-4. The average weight of one tomato is about 250 g, but some fruits grow larger - 400 g. Ripe tomatoes are pink.

The shape of the tomato is very unusual and spectacular. They are flattened from above and below and strongly ribbed - "corrugated", all consist of folds, as if assembled from separate lobules.

Their skin is dense. This keeps the tomatoes well. As for transportation, tomatoes can easily transfer it only when using special containers, since their ribs can be crumpled during transportation.

The fruits do not crack, but with a lack of moisture they can be dryish.

The disadvantage of these "exotic" is that they are difficult to wash. Dust accumulated in the deep ribs is removed with a brush.

Taste characteristics

The taste is tomato, sweet, no sourness. The pulp is tender, fleshy, moderately juicy.

They are used mainly fresh. The fruits cut across are similar in shape to flowers and are wonderful for decorating a table or a sandwich. Stuffed tomatoes will liven up the table setting. You can make sauces and juices, lecho and other preparations. They are too large for canning.

Ripening and fruiting

Mushroom basket belongs to late-ripening tomato varieties. The fruits ripen 100-110 days after the first shoots appear.

The first tomatoes ripen at the end of July. They have a long fruiting period and can stretch to frost. The green "shoulders" of some fruits slowly turn red.

When picked green, the tomatoes ripen well, but some are a little hollow.

Yield

The yield is high. From one bush, you can get an average of 3 kg of tomatoes, from one square meter - 6.3 kg.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Seeds for seedlings are sown in late February - early March, so that they are 60-70 days before they are planted in the ground.Tomato Mushroom basket is not susceptible to disease, and for this variety it is possible not to carry out preventive disinfection of seeds and soil before sowing. Ease of maintenance is a big plus. Sprouts appear on the 5-6th day.

Seedlings are regularly watered and fed every 10-14 days.

When feeding vegetables with mineral fertilizers, one must understand that plants accumulate nitrates during the entire growing season. Nitrates accumulate both in stems and leaves and in fruits. As a rule, it is important for summer residents to grow environmentally friendly products for the benefit of health, so many try not to use mineral fertilizers, using instead infusion of mullein, chicken droppings, nettle. But they are not used for seedlings because of their strong and unpleasant odor. It is better for her to take soft gummed fertilizers, such as "Biohumus" or "Biomaster".

1-2 weeks before planting, the seedlings are hardened.

Transplanting seedlings into the ground should be done when the soil warms up to a depth of 20 cm, and the likelihood of recurrent frosts has passed.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

For 1 sq. m 3-4 plants are planted according to the scheme 70x40 or 60x60 cm.It is good to add wood ash and a little humus to each hole. A support is installed next to each bush in order to tie a stem to it as it grows.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

Care consists in the formation of a bush, regular pinching, garter, timely watering and feeding.

The formation of the bush is normal. Two options:

  • leave one trunk, regularly removing all the "stepsons" branches growing under the leaves;

  • form a bush in two trunks, allowing the "stepson" to grow from the lowest leaf.

The bushes grow tall and can break off under the weight of the fruit, despite the thick stem. Therefore, a garter is needed as it grows to some kind of special supporting structure. Heavy fruit brushes also need a garter.

For the Mushroom basket, watering is especially important. The tomato pulp becomes dryish if there is not enough water. When the soil begins to dry out, the soil is moistened. Ribbed tomatoes do not crack, so even during fruiting, plants need to be watered twice a week. It is important not to allow the formation of a crust on the surface, that is, to carry out loosening in a timely manner, or to lay mulch at the base of the bushes from humus, peat or straw.

When the fruits have set and started to grow, the leaves under each fruit brush must be removed.

Feeding is done once a month - only 3 times per season. It is good to do the first feeding 10 days after transplanting the seedlings into the ground. You can use, for example, mullein 1: 10 or chicken droppings 1: 15. Top dressing is watered at the root of about 1 liter per bush. At the base of the bushes, it is good to sprinkle wood ash for feeding.

Since the variety does not tolerate heat well, the greenhouse must be regularly ventilated.

Three weeks before the end of the season, all leaves, as well as flowers and a small ovary, are gradually removed on the bushes, since they select a lot of nutrients and inhibit the ripening of existing tomatoes. No more than 4 sheets are removed at a time.

Diseases and pests

The variety Mushroom basket fell in love with summer residents for its good yield and resistance to diseases and late blight. Even in damp weather, the bushes do not get sick, do not rot or crack.

Gardeners also note the plant's resistance to garden pests. In rare cases of detection of aphids or spider mites, the plant is sprayed with a weak solution of ammonia, soapy water or insecticides ("Decis", "Confidor", "Profi" and others).

Despite the advantages of the variety, however, not everyone likes large, indefinitely shaped tomatoes with strange growths. But they are grown with pleasure by those who love vegetables with an unusual color and shape of the fruit.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.
