Many experienced farmers and gardeners prefer to cultivate proven and long-established varieties of tomatoes. One of these is the high-yielding vegetable culture Gloria.
Breeding history
Seed culture Gloria is the result of the work of Moldovan breeders. The variety was bred as a result of successful crossing of two types of tomatoes - Manitob and D-75. The variety was entered into the State Register in the 1970s. The challenge for the breeders was to create a variety that can be grown both outdoors and in greenhouses. Having passed numerous tests, Gloria tomatoes were zoned in the Central Black Earth regions, the North Caucasus, the Volga region, Tajikistan, Ukraine, as well as in many other climatic zones.
Description of the variety
The seed crop is a medium-sized, semi-determinant bush that grows up to 100 cm in height in the open field, and up to 150 cm in greenhouses. The plant is characterized by a strong root system, moderate thickening, powerful stems. It is better to form a bush in 2-4 stems. In addition, complete or partial pinching and a mandatory garter to the support are required.
The main qualities of the fruit
The Gloria fruit has a round-oval shape (plum-like) and a considerable weight - the average weight of the fruit is 200 grams. The color of the tomato is uniform, red. When unripe, the fruit is light green in color. The skin is dense with a gloss, good protection against cracking. Tomatoes are characterized by a long shelf life (about 2 months) and are well tolerated during transportation.
Taste characteristics
The fruits are sweet, slightly sugary and very aromatic. The pulp of tomatoes is fleshy, moderately dense and very juicy. The advantage of the variety is its versatility, due to which tomatoes are consumed fresh, and canned, and processed. In addition, tomatoes are good for whole fruit canning.
Ripening and fruiting
Gloria is a mid-season species. From the appearance of the first shoots to harvest, 115-120 days pass. The fruits ripen together, in whole bunches, do not crumble at the stage of full ripeness. Depending on climatic conditions, tomatoes can ripen at different times - from early August to mid-September. In a greenhouse, the fruits ripen before the first cold weather.
Yield
With proper care of the plant, it will surely thank you with a delicious and abundant harvest. On average, about 5-8 kg of tomatoes are harvested from 1 m2. In a greenhouse, yields can be higher.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
For seedlings, sowing seeds can be done in early March for open ground and a little later - for a greenhouse. Growing seedlings will take 55-65 days. The seed must first be disinfected and saturated with nutrients. Purchased soil for vegetables will be the best for growing. The greenhouse effect will help accelerate the appearance of the first shoots, which is recommended to be ensured for the first 5-7 days after sowing. For a favorable cultivation of seedlings, you will need a room with a temperature of 16-18 degrees Celsius and light for 12-14 hours. A few weeks before planting in a permanent place, the bushes need to be hardened, taking them out for 30-60 minutes in fresh air.Diving is necessary if the seeds are sown in a common box.
It is recommended to plant in open ground during a period when the air is warmed up to 18-20 degrees Celsius, and the threat of night frosts is behind.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
It is recommended to plant up to 4 bushes per 1 m2. The optimal layout for planting is 40x50 cm.
Growing and care
For planting seedlings, a soil well-lit by the sun, protected from drafts and winds, is suitable. The plant does not like excessively damp soil, therefore, in lowlands with a close location of groundwater, seedlings will be uncomfortable.
Comprehensive care of a vegetable crop includes regular watering, shaping by pinching and pinching, weeding, loosening the soil, fertilizing, tying bushes and preventive measures.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
The plant has good immunity, but preventive spraying will protect the crop from numerous diseases and pests.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
Resistant to various weather disasters, so it grows well and bears fruit. The only thing tomatoes are susceptible to is excessive soil moisture.
Growing regions
The culture is grown in all climatic zones of Russia, Moldova, Ukraine.
Review overview
Since the variety has a long history, there are enough reviews about it. Most summer residents and farmers characterize the species as very productive, unpretentious in care, with high taste. In addition, the housewives are captivated by the versatility of Gloria tomatoes.
