In the context of large regional differences in the territory of our country, vegetable growers are of great interest to varieties bred by domestic breeders. This is justified by the fact that such hybrids bear fruit well in different climatic conditions. Among these varieties, the Freken Bock tomato is deservedly popular. It was bred by domestic breeders from Siberia several years ago, but is already well known.
Description of the variety
Freken Bok is a tall, strong plant up to 1.5-1.6 m high and belongs to the type of medium-sized. There are few leaves on the bushes. It is a mid-early variety with large, beautiful fruits. Due to its relatively small size, Freken Bock can be grown on small plots, getting a good harvest.
The variety is bred by natural selection. Since 2019, it has been included in the state register of the Russian Federation. Experts recommend growing it both in greenhouses and outdoors.
Such tomatoes are suitable for salads, sauces, juices, salad dressing. Fruits are also stored fresh and whole in a cool, dark place with adequate ventilation.
The main qualities of the fruit
The shape of tomatoes of this variety is similar to a heart - slightly elongated at the bottom of the fruit and rounded at the stalk. It is also called obovate. These are fleshy tomatoes with a thin, glossy skin. The weight of each is about 247 g. The ripe fruit is distinguished by a rich pink color with a slight raspberry hue. A characteristic feature is a yellow spot at the base of the peduncle. The more ripe the fruit, the more contrasting this area becomes.
Taste characteristics
The taste of Freken Bock tomatoes is bright, rich, refreshing, with a slightly sweetish tinge.
Ripening and fruiting
The period from first germination to harvest takes about 3 months. Ripe fruits are usually harvested in mid-July.
For further processing and preservation, the fruits are allowed to fully ripen. If it is planned to keep part of the crop fresh, then slightly unripe fruits are removed from the bush.
Yield
The average yield is about 5 kg, and this indicator practically does not deteriorate in heat or insufficient watering.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
The best way to grow these tomatoes is by seedlings. Seeds are germinated in cassette containers in late February - early March. A mixture of turf, sand and peat in equal proportions is optimal for planting. It can be either ready-made or self-made.If the mixture was not purchased in the store, then it is disinfected by spilling it with special agents or hot manganese solution. The sowing containers are subjected to the same treatment. Seeds purchased from an official supplier do not require processing.
Longitudinal shallow grooves are made in the soil, into which seeds are placed with a uniform step. They are lightly sprinkled with soil, sprinkled with water at room temperature. To accelerate the rate of germination, the container with seeds is tightly covered with a film, which is removed every day for the duration of watering and airing.
Seeds germinate in warmth, the air must be warmed up by at least 22 degrees.
The covering film is removed immediately after the first shoots appear. Further development of plants should take place in a well-lit, warm room. A balcony, a windowsill on the sunny side is well suited. Seedlings need regular watering and periodic gentle loosening of the soil.
The next stage of plant development is the appearance of a second leaflet. This is a signal that the seedlings are ready to be transplanted into a peat pot. After that, they wait 14 days, feed the tomatoes with fertilizer and harden a little before planting in the ground.
The beds are mulched and fertilized, after which you can proceed to planting young plants in the ground.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
Seedlings in a permanent place are placed in 2-3 plants on an area of 1 sq. m. Experienced gardeners are advised to form a pair of stems for each bush. Young plants need to be supported by tying them to a support.
Growing and care
Freken Bock tomatoes need timely watering and weeding. Pinching will be useful. With depleted soil, you should take care of regular fertilizing with mineral and organic fertilizers. Just like spraying against pests and diseases, preventive and maintenance procedures are done all season.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
Freken Bock is a variety that is resistant to diseases, including fungal infections. Plants retain good immunity provided they are well cared for. Pests of these tomatoes are also not scary. One of the characteristics of this variety is its resistance to most diseases and pests typical for nightshades.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
To characterize the resistance of the variety in unfavorable conditions, suffice it to say that Freken Bock are tomatoes that are grown all over the world. Initially, this variety was bred and grown in Siberia, so it takes root well in almost any conditions.
The popularity of Freken Bock tomatoes is constantly growing. Reviews of gardeners who have received an excellent harvest without much effort are published annually. Seedling preparation and planting scheme have no peculiarities. Unpretentiousness, good yield and excellent taste attract both novice agronomists and experienced vegetable growers.
