Tomato varieties with pink color of vegetables are especially popular due to their high gastronomic qualities. Fruits with this color have low acidity, which is very important for people with gastrointestinal problems. These varieties include the vegetable culture Fidelio. This is a classic representative of pink-fruited tomatoes.
The tomato was bred by the efforts of Siberian breeders, who were inspired by the exotic varieties of Cuba. Experts brought the most popular island varieties to the country and adapted them to new conditions.
Description of the variety
In plastic greenhouses or in the open air, Fidelio bushes will feel good and will please with stable fruiting. A variety with an indeterminate growth type is medium-sized and grows up to 1-1.5 meters in height. Fruits of universal use are suitable for preparing meals, snacks and preparations for the winter. The plant mass of medium density consists of large leaves of a dark green color. Form - standard, tomato.
The variety boasts a stable yield even in dry and hot seasons. In this regard, it is chosen for regions with a sultry climate. The peculiarity of this variety is the unusual "weeping" shape of the bushes. If the shoots are not tied up, they lean to the ground and can even break if a low-quality garter is used and the supports are not used correctly. The inflorescences are simple.
The main qualities of the fruit
Unripe green vegetables acquire a rich raspberry hue, attracting the attention of summer residents. The sizes of the fruits are considered large, and in mass they gain about 330 grams (on average). Experienced vegetable growers have ways to grow larger vegetables weighing about 800-900 grams. The largest specimens grow in the lower part of the bush. The shape of the tomatoes resembles a heart, a slight ribbing is noticeable. Often, flat-round tomatoes grow on the lower shoots.
Tomatoes have a dense, juicy and fleshy pulp. The skin is smooth with an expressive pearlescent sheen. The pulp is sugary on a break, with a large volume of dry matter. The fruits have excellent keeping quality. The number of seed nests is more than 6, and few seeds are formed.
Due to their large size, tomatoes are not suitable for canning as a whole, but they are great for making juice, adjika or tomato paste. Fresh, they will also delight you with an expressive taste.
Taste characteristics
The gastronomic quality of the fruit is good. They contain a minimum of acids and a large amount of sugar. The balanced sweet and sour taste will pleasantly surprise you.
Ripening and fruiting
From the moment the shoots emerge and until fully ripe vegetables are formed, it takes from 110 to 125 days. The Fidelio variety is considered mid-season. Ripening times may vary depending on the growing method and weather conditions.
Yield
A high-yielding vegetable crop produces up to 6 kilograms of vegetables from one bush (throughout the season) or 7.2 kilograms from a square meter of a garden. To get a rich and stable harvest, you need to provide the bushes with proper care. From 3 to 3.5 kilograms of fruits are obtained from one plant without special care and under adverse weather conditions.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
In the period from the end of March to the beginning of April, seeds are sown for seedlings, and when its age reaches about 2 months (60-65 days), they are transplanted into a greenhouse or on an open garden. The plant is transferred only when the air warms up to 15 degrees Celsius, and the frosts completely recede. By this time, the soil should also warm up.
The seed is deepened no more than 2 centimeters into the ground. After the container is covered with a film and transferred to a warm room. The first shoots will indicate the transfer of containers to the sun. After the appearance of 2-3 leaves, a pick is carried out. In the process of growing, the seedlings must be constantly irrigated, preventing the top layer from drying out.
Choose a special soil. Regular garden soil will not work. In order not to deal with the preparation of the mixture and not waste time processing it, you can purchase a ready-made substrate that was developed specifically for growing vegetables.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
The maximum permissible planting density is 3 plants per square meter of territory. In greenhouses, the Fidelio variety is planted in a checkerboard pattern, leaving a gap of 50 centimeters between the bushes, and 70 centimeters between the beds. This arrangement allows the plants to receive the right dose of sunlight. It is undesirable to thicken the planting, otherwise the bushes will not be ventilated properly.
Growing and caring
Proper tomato care is based on regular but moderate watering. Loosening of the soil and fertilization are also considered mandatory measures. Given the high growth of plants, pinching and tying are carried out. The first procedure helps the bushes to direct nutrients to the fruits, and not to the formation of green mass. Shoots are tied up to maintain the integrity and protect the crop from contact with the ground.
You can tie up seedlings after the appearance of the fifth leaf. During the season, it is advisable to strengthen tomatoes about 5 times. The supports must be strong and reliable, especially if the plants are planted in open ground. The branches are tied with soft material that does not injure the plants. Bushes are formed into one or 2 stems. Any of the options will provide convenient crop care and stable yield.
Plants are fed regularly. The first portion is brought in after the seedlings get used to the new place. The adaptation takes about two weeks. Further, every two weeks, fertilizing based on nitrogen and potassium is applied to the soil. The first component affects the splendor and color of the plant mass, and the second is necessary for high taste. Some gardeners use growth stimulants that can increase the weight of vegetables by up to 20%.
Fidelio's tomato loves rare but abundant watering. The recommended irrigation scheme is 2 times a week. 5 liters of water are consumed per plant. It is advisable to use warm rainwater. And also standing tap water is suitable.
Features of fastening tomatoes.
Use wooden or metal stakes. The height of the supports should be about 2.5 meters, and they are installed at a distance of 10 centimeters from the bush. Placing the support closer can damage the roots. The branches are attached carefully. When using twine, do not tighten it too much.
The second option is on trellises. This method is chosen for greenhouses. The pillars are dug in the vicinity of each row. A strong wire is pulled at a height of about two meters, and a rope is thrown over it. This is the support for the shoots. As it grows, the plant will climb up the rope.
The third way is to attach it to the cage. A cage of wooden or metal rods is assembled around each plant. The stems are fixed to the poles.
Note: you cannot tie the shoots with fishing line or wire.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
