Melon's tomato, also known as Melon honey, Melon F1, belongs to the category of indeterminate hybrids that perfectly take root in open ground and under film shelters. It is versatile in application, can be used for cutting salads, used in canning and processing. It is successfully cultivated in almost all regions of the Russian Federation.

Breeding history

The hybrid was obtained by the originators of Premium Seeds LLC. Included in the State Register since 2018.

Description of the variety

A tall hybrid Melon has a shoot height in the range of 170-200 cm. The leafiness of the bush is medium, the shade of the plates is green, uniform. Strong, thickened shoots are not prone to break, but due to the severity of the fruit, they can droop. Brushes are formed abundantly, along the entire length of the trunk.

The main qualities of the fruit

Tomatoes of this hybrid form are large in size, reaching a mass of 300-400 g. The color of the skin of a ripe tomato is yellow, with orange-pink stripes. The unripe fruit is usually green, but with a characteristic darker spot at the peduncle. The shape of the fruit is slightly ribbed, reminiscent of a heart. Under the skin there is a fleshy pulp of medium density.

Taste characteristics

The taste is the main advantage of these tomatoes. It has an expressive and sweet melon flavor, not very typical for nightshades.

Ripening and fruiting

The hybrid form is early, harvesting takes place from June to September. The established ripening period is 95-98 days from the moment of emergence.

Yield

Melon is a high-yielding hybrid. From 1 sq. m 13-15 kg of ripe fruits are harvested.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

It is possible to sow the seeds of the Melon hybrid for seedlings already in early March. With proper agricultural technology, they will be ready for transfer to the ground in 50-55 days.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

An average planting density is allowed, but no more than 3-4 bushes per 1 m2, keeping an interval of 50 × 50 cm.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

The hybrid is versatile and unpretentious, suitable for growing on an industrial scale, cultivation in a personal subsidiary farm. Tomatoes are adapted to open ground, they need enough sun. Tall bushes must be tied up. Plants are led exclusively in 1 stem, pinching the emerging stepchildren.

The beds are prepared in advance, abundantly fertilizing them with organic matter - compost, peat. From autumn, it is good to sprinkle potassium-phosphorus granules into the soil.So the plants will receive the necessary supply of nutrition after transplanting. In the future, you will not have to fertilize the tomato abundantly. The hybrid will need feeding in the form of mullein or bird droppings, diluted in water in a ratio of at least 1: 10.

The plant will need mineral fertilizers during the period of ovary formation and fruit ripening. During this period, tomatoes are especially sensitive to additional nutrition. It will take the introduction of potassium sulfate, superphosphate, so that the development and formation of fruits goes well.

Trellis or individual supports are used to tie up the plants planted in the ground. The bush is very tall, so you should also choose long enough stakes or crossbars for fastening.

Tomatoes are planted in sunny areas, sheltered from the wind. A high stem, even with a trellis, is easily broken by air currents. It is important to wait for the first flower brush to form. Transplanting too early can damage the bush. In a well-warmed, fertilized soil, Melon quickly adapts and grows.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The intrinsic immunity of this hybrid is high enough to successfully resist most of the most common diseases. Breeders point out that Melon is practically not affected by late blight, apical rot. The hybrid in the greenhouse will have to be protected from insects, especially at the stage of the formation of flower brushes and ovaries. Ventilation and disinfection of the shelter is mandatory as a preventive measure.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

The hybrid is drought-resistant, well tolerates rare watering, other adverse influences. In the open field, it successfully tolerates small frosts. In general, the tomato is unpretentious, it can be grown in regions with different climatic conditions and temperatures.

Growing regions

Melon belongs to hybrids released for cultivation in most climatic zones. The tomato is successfully grown in the Far Eastern regions and in the north, in the Middle and Lower Volga regions, in the Urals and in Siberia. In the climate of the Moscow region, the hybrid also gives excellent results when grown.

Review overview

Vegetable growers highly appreciate both the taste properties of Melon and the unusual orange-pink color of its fruits. The tomato, according to the reviews of summer residents, perfectly tolerates both difficult weather conditions and a small number of sunny days. There is a good immunity of the hybrid to late blight. Tomatoes are grown everywhere, but mainly in greenhouses, with additional lighting. The original sweet taste is especially popular with children, but adults also appreciate its obvious advantages.

Most vegetable growers indicate that they are going to continue growing Melon on their site in the future. The small disadvantages of this hybrid include a small number of flower brushes, as well as a short shelf life. The keeping quality of the fruits is, indeed, low, but they reach full ripeness after being removed from the bush quite successfully.
