Tomato Ladies Fingers is an ultra-early, high-yield variety that forms in the form of an elegant determinant bush. Many gardeners distinguish this variety as one of the best and most beloved. It owes such popularity to its productivity, delicious taste, convenient shape and size. The latter quality makes tomatoes ideal components for winter harvesting.

Breeding history

Ladies' fingers are not considered a novelty among tomato varieties. It was bred at the dawn of the twentieth century in the Soviet Union. Author - Myazina L.A. Original tomatoes were actively grown in the USSR and cultivated in the south of Russia. Originator of Damskie pal variety "chiki SP Kudryavtseva E.R.

The tomato was finally entered into the register in 2006. Gradually, varieties of the variety appeared in private farms. New fruits have slight differences in shape.

Description of the variety

The bush of tomatoes of the determinant variety Ladies fingers is undersized. In the open field it grows up to 120 cm, in the closed field it grows more compact. Only 1-2 shoots need to be shaped. Stepson is not required. The foliage of the bush is medium, small leaves of green (dark green) color. The inflorescence is simple. The culture is light-loving and heat-loving.

The main qualities of the fruit

Fruits Ladies' fingers come in different shapes:

  • elongated-cylindrical, pointed at the apex;

  • elongated pear-shaped, with a "spout" below.

Fruits with a small spout are distinguished by their firmness and glossy surface. Their weight is within 52 g (in some cases, they gain weight up to 70 g).

The exceptional taste of the described tomatoes is noted. They are formed in 5-6 pieces. on one brush. Unripe fruits are light green (emerald), and by the stage of full ripeness they reach a juicy red color. The peduncles have no spots, the peduncles themselves do not have articulations.

The colorful pear-shaped fruits ripen gradually without falling off the bush. A juicy tomato is divided into 2-3 chambers with a small amount of seeds. The inside is moderately dense, fragrant pulp, which contributes to good transportability and keeping quality of tomatoes.

The smooth skin does not crack and retains a fresh look for a long time.

Taste characteristics

Moderately juicy, non-watery pulp has excellent taste. The taste of tomatoes is sweetish with pleasant sourness.

Ripening and fruiting

Ripening period is early, 95-100 days. Harvesting takes place between July and September. The best fruiting is noted in the southern regions, since Ladies' fingers need well-lit beds.

Yield

The yield of tomatoes in the open field is 2.7 kg / sq. m, and under the film cover it is possible to collect up to 15 kg / sq. m, that is, up to 2.5 kg from one bush. This is considered a high yield.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

Sowing for seedlings falls on January - March. Seedlings are planted in the ground at the age of 50-55 days. In the process of transplanting, useful fertilizers should be applied to the soil for better survival of the seedlings.

Variety Ladies fingers are planted in open ground only after the frost has receded. If the temperature drops after planting, cover the tomatoes with agrofibre.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

The planting density is quite dense - from 6 to 8 plants per 1 sq. meter. You can follow the 40 x 40 cm pattern between the bushes and leave up to 70 cm between the rows.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

Tomato variety Ladies fingers is considered unpretentious, so even an inexperienced gardener manages to get a high-quality harvest.

The fruits are grown exclusively by the seedling method. Before sowing, it is necessary to sort out the seeds and decontaminate them by soaking them in a pale solution of potassium permanganate.

The soil for seedlings should be loose and fertilized. If you prepare it yourself, it is advisable to pour it with boiling water or a weak solution of potassium manganese before using it.

Seeds are sown to a depth of 1 cm in furrows laid at a distance of 2 cm, in row spacing - 3 cm. After sowing, cover the box with foil, transfer to a warm and well-lit place. When the sprouts appear, the film is no longer needed. The temperature is lowered to +16 degrees to slow down the growth of seedlings.

After 3-7 days, the temperature can be increased by about 6 degrees.

As soon as 2-3 leaves hatch, it is necessary to pick the seedlings, distributing them in separate cups. During the period of growing seedlings, it is of paramount importance to ensure that it is regularly watered. It will be useful to loosen the ground if necessary. You can rarely feed, using a weak tincture of wood ash.

When growing tomatoes in unprotected soil, it is necessary to install supports under the bushes. Otherwise, there is a possibility of the bushes falling to the ground under the weight of the fruits. In greenhouse conditions, it is easier to use trellises.

How tomatoes are looked after:

  • moderate watering 3 times a week under the root, pouring 6 liters of water;

  • mulch with a layer of straw (10 cm);

  • during the growing season, setting and ripening of fruits, feed them with organic matter and fertilize with solutions with minerals;

  • loosen the soil and remove weeds.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

Resistant to late blight. The harvest has time to ripen even before the start of the "attack".

At the same time, the variety Ladies fingers is susceptible to mosaic damage. To get rid of pests, insecticides of a wide spectrum of action are used.

In early spring and at the first signs of the disease, tomatoes should be treated with specialized ready-made fungicides. For prevention, it is recommended to sprinkle tomato bushes with chopped wood ash.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

The bushes are drought-resistant, heat-resistant and cold-resistant. But there is a need for shelter if the temperature is low after landing on the street

Growing regions

It is possible to grow original and tasty tomatoes in any soil and in different regions of the Russian Federation. Gardeners achieve the highest yields in sunny weather and mild climates: in the Crimea, Krasnodar Territory, Astrakhan Region. In the northern parts of Russia, the variety is grown only in heated greenhouses, additionally equipped with artificial lighting.
