In today's market, you can rarely surprise anyone with yellow, pink or green tomatoes. Most often, the color variety is preferred by novice gardeners who are just getting acquainted with the assortment. Black or dark brown fruits are much more interesting for summer residents. Therefore, the Black Iceberg tomato, thanks to its color and external data, fell in love with many.

Breeding history

According to the State Register, the variety was approved for use in 2018. This means that the variety is quite young. The breeders were V. G. Kachainik, M. N. Gulkin, O. A. Karmanova, S. V. Matyunina.

The producer indicates that the variety is indeterminate, not a hybrid, intended for cultivation in open ground and film greenhouses. There are no restrictions for growing by region.

When growing tomatoes, it is recommended to choose the right planting site and cover the bushes depending on the weather conditions.

Description of the variety

The bush is tall, has unlimited growth power. The height of the stem reaches 150-180 cm. If desired, the trunk can be pinched at a convenient height after several fruiting brushes have formed. This is done for several reasons, the first of which is the limited area and height of the greenhouse. The second reason is the short summer, when the weather conditions do not indulge in the sun.

So that all the power of the bush does not go to the formation of greenery and growth, the bush is pinched, and then all the trace elements go to the formation and ripening of fruits.

Leaves of medium length, dark green in color. There are few of them, and they do not block the fruits from sunlight.

The inflorescence of the variety is complex, it is formed at the level of 5 leaves, and the next ones - after 2-3. Light yellow buds. From 2 to 5 fruits are formed on one cluster. The peduncle is articulated.

It is recommended to leave 2 stems when forming a bush for better yield.

The main qualities of the fruit

The fruits are flat-round in shape with a noticeable ribbing, which starts from the stalk and goes along the vegetable. Tomatoes are large and weighty, the average weight reaches 220-280 g. The color of the fruits is violet-brown. Unripe berries are green in color, and the stalk has a spot. The skin is thin, but does not crack either on the bush or during cooking.

The pulp is of medium density, sugary. Inside, from 3 to 6 seed chambers are formed. There are many seeds, they are medium-sized and are not felt when consumed. There is little juice in the tomato.

The variety is suitable for preparing various salads, vegetable soups, mashed potatoes and smoothies. Less commonly, crops are chosen for whole-fruit canning or pickling.

Tomatoes have good keeping quality - from 2 to 3 weeks. Thanks to the dense skin and structure of the berries, they can be easily transported in wooden crates, stacking on top of each other.

Taste characteristics

According to gardeners, the Black Iceberg tomato has a pleasant, sweet taste with a small amount of acidity.

Ripening and fruiting

The culture belongs to the group of mid-early varieties: 95-100 days pass from the moment the ovaries appear until the fruits are fully ripe. Harvesting is lengthy, starting in July and continuing until August. Indicators and terms may vary slightly depending on the growing regions and weather conditions.

Yield

It is stated that up to 10 kg of tomatoes are removed from 1 m2.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

The soil for germination of seedlings is harvested in the fall. During this time, the soil will dry out well. Before sowing, it will only need to be processed by calcining in the oven for 20 minutes at a temperature of 150 ° C.

Since the variety is not a hybrid, the seeds can be harvested on their own. Before sowing, they must be soaked in a solution of potassium permanganate to process and remove harmful microbes.

Sowing is carried out from March 1 to March 15. Earth is poured into seedling containers, then small depressions are made, and seeds are placed. After that, the soil is leveled, and everything is watered. If desired, fertilizers or growth stimulants can be added to the liquid immediately. The containers are closed with foil and put away in a warm and dark place.

It takes 5-7 days for the seeds to hatch. After that, the film can be removed, and the boxes can be put on the windowsill, which is located on the south or west side.

Seedling care during this period is simple, it is necessary to water, loosen the soil, top dressing and pick.

The seedlings are planted in a permanent place from May 15 to June 5. Before planting, the site is dug up and spilled with hot water. Ammonium nitrate can be poured into the bottom of the fossa to stimulate growth.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

It is recommended to plant seedlings according to the scheme 60x50 cm, using a checkerboard seating method.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

The main care of the variety is:

  • regular watering (once a week);

  • top dressing (every 10 days);

  • tying up and forming a bush;

  • loosening the soil and removing weeds;

  • daily airing of the greenhouse;

  • preventive spraying (2 times per season).

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.
