The Swan Princess is a first-class hybrid (F1) belonging to the Tomato-Fruit series. It was developed by the domestic breeder L.A. Myazina and was included in the register in 2015. The tomato has such a beautiful name not for the appearance and color of the fruits, but for their appearance in section. If you divide the tomato into two halves, then you can see the pulp, the drawing of which in the section really resembles a swan that spread its wings.
Description of the variety
The Swan Princess is a versatile indeterminate hybrid that can be grown in completely different conditions. In the south, it is cultivated in the open air, and if the region is cool, then the plantings are formed under the film.
The culture has bushes of medium height. In the open field, their height usually does not exceed 75-100 cm, but under film conditions, the plants stretch much more. There are very few leaves, but the plates are large. The dark green color resonates beautifully with the redness of the fruit.
The main qualities of the fruit
The swan princess is a large-fruited hybrid. Fruits reach 350 g in weight. Ripe berries are painted in a classic red hue, but depending on the region of cultivation, they can change color. So, according to some gardeners, the berries grew coral-red, while others had a pinkish tint. However, whatever the shade, the shape is always the same - heart-shaped. Weak ribs are visible on tomatoes. The green spot at the base disappears as the tomatoes ripen.
Taste characteristics
The fruit pulp of the Swan Princess leaves the most pleasant impressions for gardeners. It is fleshy and not too watery, medium in density. The thin skin is easy to bite and chew. The taste is dominated by sweetness, but there are also sour notes. The aroma is bright. Berries are suitable for any dishes and preparations.
Ripening and fruiting
In terms of ripening, this is an early variety. Berries can be obtained within 90-100 days after planting seedlings in the ground.
Yield
The swan princess gives a rich harvest. Most farmers remove up to 5 kilograms of berries from the bush. But on a square meter, it is possible to grow 13-13.5 kg of the crop.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
From 1 to 10 March, this variety is planted for seedlings. Presowing treatment, as a rule, is not carried out, since this is a hybrid variety. Grains germinate best in nutrient substrates with a light texture. It is necessary to keep them under the film until shoots appear, regularly spraying and airing.
After removing the shelter, boxes with seedlings are placed in places where it is most sunny. 14 days after moving, the sprouts are fed with minerals. Then they grow until the beginning of May. It is during this period that the time will come to transplant the seedlings. This can be done both outdoors and in a greenhouse. However, gardeners who have already tried this variety in business claim that the ideal taste can be achieved only by growing tomatoes in the open field.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
The originators recommend a 70x40 cm scheme. This is the best placement option, thanks to which each bush receives all the nutrition it needs. The density of plants per square meter should not exceed three bushes.
Growing and caring
The swan princess gives the highest yields on fertile soils. Therefore, the soil should be dealt with in the fall. Deep digging is important, as well as the addition of humus and mineral mixtures, wood ash. The acidity should not be increased.
This hybrid will be grown in 1-2 trunks. Excess shoots must be removed in order to prevent thickening of the plantings. There is little foliage, and generally it is not required to cut it off. The only exception is the lower leaves above the fruit clusters. In addition to shaping and pinching, a garter is performed.
Plant care is not limited to the above procedures. And you will also need to regularly water the culture, fertilize it, mulch. Weeds and weeds are removed from the site.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
The swan princess has excellent genetics. Even during the development, the plants were given good immunity. Therefore, the culture does not suffer from alternaria, bacterial ailments, tobacco mosaic. However, the variety is susceptible to fungal diseases. Phytophthora is rare, but rot is common. Therefore, fungicide treatment is highly recommended.
Young bushes can infect pests. These are mainly aphids and caterpillars. Spraying with various formulations will help against pests. Infusions of garlic and onions, wormwood, tobacco dust are often used. Insecticides can only be used at the initial stage of the growing season.
Resistant to extreme weather conditions
The swan princess is very susceptible to cold, so disembarkation should be carried out only in warm conditions. It is necessary to cover the plantings with foil before the onset of even and warm weather.
