Modern Russian breeding has already passed a fairly long stage of development. One of the results of it is just the Tomato Bull's forehead. This is not too new already, but quite a crop worthy for any vegetable garden.
Breeding history
The variety was approved for mass use in 2005. At the same time, the corresponding position was made in the state register of the Russian Federation. Botanical development was carried out by breeders Dederko, Postnikova and Yabrov. This group of amateurs managed to create a quite decent plant that many gardeners like.
Description of the variety
The bovine forehead is one of the determinant tomatoes. Its main growing environment is open ground. Greenhouse cultivation is used much less often. The bushes are relatively low: a maximum of 0.4-0.6 m. Large green foliage is characteristic of the Bull's forehead. It is also worth noting that this is a standard variety of tomatoes.
The main qualities of the fruit
Unripe berries are characterized by a light green color. A characteristic dark spot is found near the peduncle. The size of the tomatoes is quite large. Their mass can vary from 141 to 418 g. The rounded-ribbed fruit is slightly flattened and grows on a simple inflorescence that develops over at least 9 leaves.
Then you can find tomatoes after 1-2 sheets. The peduncle of the Bovine forehead has a characteristic articulation. The keeping quality of the variety is rather limited. The fruits are mainly consumed fresh, less often canned; transporting them is not very easy.
Taste characteristics
The pulp of the fruit is fleshy. Its density is also emphasized in the official description. The taste is dominated by sweet notes. At the same time, some sourness is still recorded. However, the end result is a decent balanced flavor.
Ripening and fruiting
Bovine forehead is a common mid-season tomato. Most often, 110 to 120 days pass between discarding greens and the appearance of ripe fruits. But this gap can change in one direction or the other. Actual weather plays a decisive role here. It is believed that fruit can be harvested from mid-July to mid-September.
Yield
Suppliers of planting material declared a collection of up to 18 kg per 1 sq. m. But we must take into account that only 51% of the fruits have the necessary marketable conditions. Therefore, such a culture can be grown mainly for personal use. Plantation cultivation prospects are slim. The collection from 1 bush is usually 9 kg.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
You can prepare seeds and put them in planting containers already in March. This is sometimes postponed until the first ten days of April to take advantage of the good weather. Under favorable conditions, it is necessary to plant hardened bushes in open ground in the first 15 days of May. If the weather conditions are less favorable, it is better to postpone this procedure until the second half of the month. Cautious gardeners can even do this in the first days of the calendar summer - there will be no big damage from such a step.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
For this variety, the arrangement of the bushes according to the 300x400 mm system is recommended.
Growing and care
When planting the Bull's forehead, you will definitely have to deal with:
- pinching;
- formation;
- tying up.
Seeds must be kept in potassium permanganate for at least 15 and maximum 20 minutes. When they are disinfected, they also need to be specially rinsed to remove the unsafe liquid completely.
For the sowing itself, containers of any volume are suitable. The use of ready-made soil specially designed for seedlings is recommended. As soon as 2 or more leaves appear, you must immediately dive the seedlings. For this purpose, peat cups are most preferred.
Sprinkle the foliage with a spray bottle every morning and every evening. Watering is carried out as needed, and not according to some kind of schedule. Foliar dressing is applied every 14 days. Before planting, the seedlings should be hardened.
At the very landing, all containers, with the exception of peat cups, must be removed. Having covered with earth, the planted bushes are tamped a little. At the same time, they make sure that the plant does not suffer. The Bull's forehead bushes planted in open ground, like seedlings, are watered only as needed. For this purpose, only warm, settled tap water is used, but any precipitation is categorically not suitable.
Top dressing is carried out every 30 days. It is permissible to use both mineral complexes and organics. It is advisable to alternate root dressing with leaf feeding. Watering is carried out so that the plant does not dry out. In the first 2 weeks after planting, watering, except for the initial one, is not carried out - this is necessary to stimulate the intensive development of roots.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
The variety tolerates the effects of fungal infections. A certain threat is posed by a spider mite. The easiest way to combat it is by spraying with garlic infusion (with the addition of soap).In case of intensive infection, you will have to use "Karbofos". A small number of Colorado potato beetles can be removed by hand, but it will not be possible to cope with a serious infestation without synthetic drugs.
For prophylactic treatment against fungal infections, in many cases, Fitosporin-M is best suited. This drug is also completely harmless. Therefore, it can be used practically without restrictions. Even numerous treatments are allowed, including during the flowering and fruiting period (subject to the instructions).
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
The plant can survive extreme heat. But it is better to try to help him and weaken the negative effects of the heat. In this case, a more or less normal harvest can be guaranteed.
Growing regions
The bullish forehead feels good on:
- Siberian;
- Ural;
- Volga region;
- located in the center and northwest of the European part of Russia;
- Far Eastern vegetable gardens.
Review overview
This variety of tomatoes gives not just large, but also fairly uniform fruits. The gastronomic properties of the crop are quite worthy. Soreness of the Bull's forehead is generally unusual. The harvest pleases even in years with harsh cold summers. Seeds must be carefully selected, but even this does not allow you to refuse such a plant in your collections.
