The giant bovine heart tomato gives really very large fruits up to one and a half kilograms in weight. It is popular with gardeners for its cold resistance and great taste. They use tomatoes for salads, juicing and ketchup.
Breeding history
The variety appeared in 2013, in the same year it was included in the State Register. The originator is Agrofirma Poisk LLC.
Description of the variety
The bush is tall - 150-200 cm, the stem is straight, strong, pubescent, but breaks off under the weight of the harvest. The leaf is medium, of a simplified variety, bright green. Growth type is indeterminate. The inflorescence is simple, the flowers are yellow. The first brush appears above 8-9 leaves, the next - after 2-3.
The fruits are tied regardless of weather conditions, temperature changes, even in cold summers. Suitable for planting in film and glass greenhouses. In the open field, it is required to install a high trellis for the garter.
The main qualities of the fruit
Fruits are huge in size, heart-shaped, with an average weight of 400-600 g, can reach 1500 g. Dark scarlet color. The rind is thin and firm. The pulp is firm, fleshy, bright red, sugary and very juicy. There are few seeds. High presentation and transportability, in a cold dark place the fruits retain their shape and taste for about 2 weeks.
Taste characteristics
The taste is considered "classic", compared to other heart-shaped tomatoes. Characterized as a gorgeous, sweet tomato with a slight sourness.
Ripening and fruiting
It belongs to the mid-ripening species, in terms of ripening it is considered mid-season, the crop can be harvested 110-115 days after transplanting. Fruiting - from early August to October. At the bottom, larger tomatoes appear - from 400 g, on the upper ones, smaller ones - 50-100 g. To obtain fruits weighing more than 500 g, the bush is formed into one stem.
Yield
Up to 5 kg are removed from 1 bush in the beds, in the greenhouse you can get from 8 kg.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Planting seedlings is carried out in March-April, 50-60 days before transferring to the site. It is better to do this in March, when the sun becomes more intense and the seedlings can fully develop, and not stretch out from a lack of light. They are planted on the garden bed only in the first or second decade of May - it often depends on the climate of the region. In warm climates earlier, and in the middle lane in cold spring, you can postpone planting until the end of the month. They are transferred to open beds only in June. Can be planted in a heated greenhouse in April.
The soil is required light, loose, with a high humus content, slightly acidified.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
Placed no more than 3 seedlings per 1 sq. m, at a distance of 50x80 cm.
Growing and care
To obtain a plentiful and high-quality harvest, careful adherence to agricultural technology is necessary. The tomato requires a garter, pinching. The bush is formed into 2 stems when planted in a greenhouse, and 3 stems - in the open field. When forming the second stem, the stepson is not cut off under the first flower brush; if formed into 3 stems, the next stepson is left immediately behind her - as a result, 3 trunks are obtained.
To increase yields, it is recommended to dive every second sprout. The plant has a tendency to build up the green mass, be sure to cut off all the foliage up to the first brush with an ovary, pinch the top after the formation of 8 inflorescences. Some of the flowers and ovaries are removed so that no more than 5 tomatoes ripen on the plant at a time. As a rule, no more than 4 brushes are left. Trunks and fruit branches need a garter.
Tomato responds well to organic (humus, bird droppings) and mineral (potassium chloride, superphosphate, saltpeter) dressings, they are recommended to be carried out every 10-15 days. During the season, at least 6-7 dressings are carried out: necessarily 10 days after the dive, then 14 days before landing on the site, then at the beginning of the growing season, when ovaries appear and during ripening. Nitrogen compounds are introduced with caution and only during the period of intensive growth.
With good care, yields and fruit size increase. The variety prefers high humidity of 50-60% and regular watering. Pour warm water under the root.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
The variety is susceptible to late blight disease. For prophylaxis during the growing season, they are treated several times with the fungicides "Fundazol", "Ordan". It is affected by various types of rot. For the prevention of diseases when wet condensation appears on the leaves, it is often recommended to ventilate the greenhouse.
Bushes are susceptible to aphid attack, from insects they are treated with "Akarin", "Confidor". From the attack of caterpillars, tomato scoops are sprayed with "Zolon" or "Karate".
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
Differs in cold resistance, tolerates heat and temperature changes well.
Growing regions
Recommended for all regions of the Russian Federation. In the southern regions, open ground is acceptable, in the middle lane they are planted only in greenhouses.
Review overview
According to gardeners, the Giant Bull Heart is a tasty, but capricious variety, not very productive, needs protection from late blight and apical rot. Many people really like this type of tomato in salads, they are usually grown fresh for consumption, only 2-3 bushes.
