At each summer cottage, a tomato variety should be grown that is undemanding to care for, grows quickly and gives high yields. In addition, the variety should be versatile, tasty fresh and canned. One of these is the mid-season Bourgeois variety.
Breeding history
This hybrid variety was bred by Ukrainian breeders in 2002 as a seed crop, resistant to different climatic conditions, grown in open ground and greenhouses. The variety was entered into the State Register of the Russian Federation in 2004, and approved for use in 2010.
Description of the variety
This seed crop is a standard shrub of a determinant type of growth, characterized by a strong thickening, a powerful stem and simple inflorescences. The leaves of the bushes are dark green in regular shape, and the root system is well developed. The plant grows up to 80-120 cm. In a greenhouse, the height of the bushes can be 150 cm. Experts recommend the formation of a plant in 2-3 stems. During active growth and development, the bushes require a garter to the peg.
The main qualities of the fruit
The fruits of the Bourgeois tomatoes have a flat-round shape with a weakly pronounced ribbing. The color of the fruit is uniform, red, without spots at the base. When unripe, the fruit is light green. The tomato skin is dense, smooth, with a glossy sheen, resistant to cracking. The mass of tomatoes is average - about 200 grams, however, in greenhouses the fruits grow a little heavier - up to 400-500 g. It is also worth noting the good transportability of tomatoes and long keeping quality (30-45 days).
Taste characteristics
The pulp of tomatoes Bourgeois is juicy (only 6% of dry matter), fleshy, with pronounced taste. The taste of the tomato is dominated by sweetness with a barely felt sourness. The variety is versatile, therefore ideal for eating fresh and processed - sauces, dressings, salads, juices. In addition, the variety is suitable for cask and can salting.
Ripening and fruiting
It is a mid-season variety, therefore the ripening and fruiting period is long, ripening in 111-115 days. Fruiting is long-term, so you can feast on fresh and tasty tomatoes for many weeks. Despite the fragility of the branches and the weight of the fruits, the tomatoes do not crumble.
Yield
The yield of the hybrid species is good. Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, up to 7-8.5 kg can be harvested from one bush per season. On average, it is collected from 1 m2 to 9.6 kg.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Bourgeois tomatoes are grown through seedlings. Sowing seeds is carried out in the first half of March, after disinfecting the material in a solution of potassium permanganate. After sowing, it is recommended to cover the containers with polyethylene, creating a greenhouse effect that will accelerate the emergence of seedlings. Seedlings are grown in a warm room with sufficient lighting. With the appearance of 2-3 leaves, a dive is carried out (planting bushes in separate pots). It takes 60-65 days to grow. During this time, the bush should have 7-8 leaves.
Before planting in open ground (about 7-10 days), the bushes must be hardened, adapting to new growing conditions. Seedlings are planted in open ground in early summer, and under the film - in mid-May. During landing in the ground, the air temperature should be above + 16 ... 18 degrees, and there should be no threat of frost.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
The recommended planting density is up to 3-4 bushes per 1 m2. Optimal planting pattern: 50x40 cm. Planting of bushes is carried out in cloudy weather or after sunset.
Growing and care
The seed crop is unpretentious and quickly adapts to weather conditions, but the soil must be pre-prepared. The soil must be cleared of weeds, well dug up, which improves air permeability, is saturated with fertilizers, fertile. The ideal soil for planting seedlings will be the place where carrots, cabbage or onions used to grow.
Comprehensive care for tomatoes Bourgeois consists of the following procedures: watering, feeding, loosening the soil, forming bushes, tying.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
It has immunity to almost all viruses and diseases (cladosporium, verticillosis, tobacco mosaic virus, fusarium wilting, apical rot and late blight).
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
The culture is resistant to cold, drought, sultry heat and temperature extremes.
Growing regions
The variety is recommended for cultivation in open ground in the southern and central regions, and in a greenhouse in the northern regions.
Review overview
Tomatoes of the Bourgeois variety are frequent guests in dachas and vegetable gardens, since they are characterized by ease of cultivation, resistance to diseases and weather disasters. It is important that tomatoes are tasty, aromatic, stored for a long time, can be processed and preserved.
