One of the many varieties of tomatoes that is successfully grown on the site is Budenovka. It is not a shame to put it on the table and you can roll it in slices.
Breeding history
The breeding of the plant was carried out by the employees of the Tomagros Seed Breeding and Seed Company LLC. The result is an indeterminate variety, which was approved for use in 2002.
Description of the variety
Budenovka is grown with great success both under film in greenhouses and in the open field.
The bushes are medium-sized, reach a height of 1.5 m. They are heavily leafy, the foliage is medium-sized, green. The inflorescences are intermediate, first laid on 9-11 leaves, then every three leaves.
Budenovka needs shaping, pinching and garter.
The main qualities of the fruit
Tomatoes of the described variety perfectly tolerate long-distance transportation. When ripe, the tomato is red. Fruits reach at full maturity a mass of 350 grams, while they have a strong ribbing and heart-shaped shape.
Taste characteristics
Budenovka tomatoes are sweet in taste, there is a slight sourness. The flesh inside is fleshy and very juicy.
Ripening and fruiting
This is a mid-early variety when viewed from the perspective of ripening. From the moment the seeds are planted in the ground and until the fruits are fully ripe, 111 days pass. Harvested from July to September.
Yield
High-yielding Budenovka can bring up to 9.3 kg / sq. m or up to 5 kg of tomatoes from a bush.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
The time when it is necessary to sow the seeds is the end of February, the beginning of March. Seedlings can be transferred to open ground by the end of April or the beginning of May.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
Budenovka has its own planting scheme - 40 x 60 cm, in this case, the density of plants is 3 plants per m2.
Growing and caring
For planting seeds of this variety, you must use a fertile light soil. Seeds should not be placed too deep, a centimeter or two is enough. If they are immersed too deep, they may simply not germinate. To speed up the process, after planting, the soil is watered, covered with foil and placed in a sunny place.
When the first shoots appear, the film is completely removed, and in the future, the soil moisture is strictly monitored. Budenovka definitely needs sun for at least 6 hours a day. If there is not enough of it, the seedlings begin to stretch upward.
When planting, the root system is completely immersed in the soil and another three centimeters of the trunk. Lateral roots will appear in a few weeks.
After planting the seedlings of Budenovka, it must be watered abundantly, you can add ash to the water. It is advisable to make the first watering with warm water. Subsequently, it is necessary to cover the soil with mulch, which will not only prevent the growth of weeds, but will also keep the soil moist longer.
Budenovka tomatoes need nutrient-rich, well-drained soil that remains moist at all times, but not soggy. It is good to add compost, seasoned manure, complex fertilizers to the soil.
Budenovka tomatoes are fast-growing and large bushes that need regular additional fertilization. This is the only way to get high yields from the described variety. At the time of planting, add a slow release fertilizer to the planting hole according to the instructions. Use a balanced top dressing 10-10-10 or a mixture designed specifically for tomatoes.
Water the newly planted bushes with organic fertilizer with a high nitrogen content for rapid growth. As soon as the plants begin to bear fruit, they are fed every 1-2 weeks with fish emulsion, compost tea or other water-soluble organic fertilizer.
At each stage of development, it is necessary to make sure that Budenovka receives a sufficient amount of calcium, magnesium and other micro and macro elements. Comprehensive care and timely watering help to avoid rotting at the end of flowering.
Other organic additives that benefit Budenovka tomatoes:
bone flour;
lime;
eggshell;
used coffee grounds.
This variety loves a slightly acidic pH between 6.0 and 7.0 and good watering. Plants need water all the time, this is the only way they will grow well. The rule of thumb is to water slowly and deeply to stimulate the root system. Water is applied to the soil in the morning, and watering from above is avoided, this approach will help prevent the likelihood of fungal diseases.
At the same time, waterlogging can cause root rot and lead to loss of fruit quality. Irregular watering can lead to a drop in flowering.
For raised beds and plots, use drip irrigation or a hose-cocker for the most efficient delivery of water to the roots.
To direct energy to the production of fruits, and not leaves, Budenovka needs to be cut off. Removing unwanted foliage can also help prevent pests and certain diseases. Thinning increases air circulation, and light penetrates better into the bushes.
Be sure to remove stepchildren that grow between the main stem and branches, since they give little fruit, and sometimes they do not. Remove them while they are still small, so as not to shock the plant. The lower, diseased, dry leaves are also removed. The lower the density of the bushes, the less likely it is that mold will form in them.
Budenovka tomatoes need support so that the fruits can be kept above the ground. Not only stakes are used, but also special cages. You can stretch a twine between two stakes, and tie bushes to it as they grow.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
The described variety has good resistance to late blight and fruit cracking. For fungal diseases, it is advised to use fungicides, keep the area clean.
In the fight against insects, a solution of insecticidal soap, an infusion of garlic and neem oil helps.
Growing regions
Budenovka is grown in most regions of Russia, this is Siberia and the Far East, where it is planted in greenhouses.
