On the site, you can get a good harvest not only from a tall bush of tomatoes. A good option for planting would be the low-growing Boni MM plant, which belongs to the determinant varieties.
Breeding history
LLC "Gavrish Breeding Firm" was working on the removal of Boney MM. The use of the tomato was allowed in 2001.
Description of the variety
Boni MM fruits will become a decoration of the table, they are tasty and healthy. They have proven themselves quite well in conservation.
Tomatoes of this variety can be grown not only in a greenhouse, but also in the open field. The bushes are compact, small in size, grow up to a maximum of 50 cm. Branching and leafiness are medium, the stem is erect. The foliage is formed small, the shade is dark green.
This is a standard plant with a simple inflorescence, the first one can be seen above 6-7 leaves. Further inflorescences are formed without separation by leaves. Bony MM's peduncle has an articulation. There is no need to graze the plant, however, as well as tie it up.
The main qualities of the fruit
When the Boney MM tomato is still immature, it is green, there is a darkening near the stalk. In a mature state, the fruits are red, have a slight ribbing and a flat-round shape.
Taste characteristics
Boni MM has a classic tomato flavor with a slight sourness.
Ripening and fruiting
This variety belongs to the category of ultra-early. Ripens in just 83-88 days. At the end of June, you can already enjoy delicious tomatoes from your own garden.
Yield
As for the yield, up to 2 kg can be harvested from one Boney MM bush.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
In the first half of April, it is already possible to safely sow the variety for seedlings; in May, the bushes are transferred to open ground.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
Boney MM is planted at the rate of 30x50 cm.
Growing and care
There are certain features of growing Boney MM tomato in different types of soils.
Sandy soil loses moisture very quickly, so you need to add material to help the soil retain water long enough for plants to reach it. Organic matter in any form will do this, but coconut fiber or peat moss harvested from swamps, where it acts like a giant sponge, are especially effective. Another obvious candidate is old reserve compost, which contains a complex array of nutrients as well as excellent water retention.
Clay soil consists of very small particles that initially resist the absorption of water and then retain it. Like sandy soils, heavy clay soils tend to be low in organic matter, so compost must be added, followed by coconut fiber or peat moss again. This is the only way to grow a large yield of Boney MM in such an environment. If the soil is acidic, coconut fiber will help here, as it has a higher pH (5.5-6.3, as opposed to 5-5.3 pH of peat moss).
For acidic soils, it is advised to use highly alkaline additives such as lime or wood ash. On alkaline soil, start with compost. Elemental sulfur, which is sold as small granules, will add the nutrient the plant needs, while peat moss will provide organic matter.
Cloudy days are best for transplanting Boni MM, as the seedlings do not dry out and do not suffer from sudden temperature changes. At this stage, you can already pinch off the lower leaves, which pathogenic microorganisms can be the first to take over from the ground. Before planting, Boney MM is advised to immerse the plants in a weak solution of compost tea. Using super strong synthetic fertilizer can shock the tomato.
Before planting tomatoes in the soil, place one cup of kelp flour and the same amount of bone meal in each planting hole. It is on such a top dressing that the Boney MM tomato will quickly grow and take root. Kelp is an excellent and versatile plant substance that is rich in trace elements, while bone meal contains phosphorus, which promotes flowering and fruit development. Both of these fertilizers will provide nutrients to the tomato for a long time.
When Boney MM is immersed in the planting hole, most of the stem should go into the hole. Only the top leaves will protrude from the ground. Over time, the bushes will take root enough, the roots will go from the stem, thanks to which Boni MM has access to more nutrients contained in the soil.
Trench landing can be used instead of the traditional method. The trench has the advantage of not having to dig a deep hole, the entire length of the plant's root system is distributed over the topsoil, which is the first to warm up in the spring and which usually contains the richest nutrients.
When planting Boney MM, this method digs a horizontal trench of such a size that the roots and stem fit into it. Remove all leaves from the plant except for the top cluster. The seedlings are laid on their side and covered with soil up to the upper group of leaves. The soil layer should be several centimeters thick. It is advisable to mix ground algae and bone meal with the ground and only then fill the trench.
At first, the seedlings of Boney MM will lie on the ground, but do not worry, they will stand upright in a few days. If necessary, you can carefully place a small stone under the stem so that it starts moving in the right direction. This is an especially good idea if the weather is expected to be cloudy or rainy.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
One of the advantages of the described variety, in addition to the fact that it is high-yielding and low in height, is resistance to late blight.
Growing regions
If desired, it can be grown in any region of the country. In the northern regions, seedlings are planted under film.
