The Bobkat tomato variety combines a whole set of characteristics, thanks to which many Russian summer residents choose it. This variety has remained at the peak of popularity for more than 10 years, visibly standing out against the background of other vegetable crops.

Description of the variety

Tomatoes have a determinant type of growth. Vegetables are grown in plastic greenhouses or in open areas. Most summer residents eat fresh tomatoes. They also make wonderful tomato paste and ketchup. Low-growing bushes grow only up to 50-70 centimeters. Sometimes there are higher specimens, about a meter. The leaves are dark green, large.

Simple inflorescences. After 6-7 leaves, the first fruit cluster is formed. After the ovary appears on the top of the plant, the main stem stops growing.

The main qualities of the fruit

Unripe fruits are light green in color. Ripe tomatoes become the standard red color. The green spot is not observed at the peduncle, the color is uniform. Weight ranges from 90 to 226 grams. The shape is round, flat, with noticeable ribbing. Under the smooth and glossy skin, there is a fleshy and dense, juicy flesh. Inside each tomato, 4 to 6 seed chambers are formed. Keeping quality is noted as good, thanks to which vegetables can be stored for a long time.

Taste characteristics

The taste of ripe tomatoes is sweet and sour, pleasant and harmonious. Many speak positively about the taste of the harvest, giving high marks to both fresh vegetables and tomato juice. The percentage of sugar content is 3.4-4.1%.

Ripening and fruiting

Bobkat is a late-ripening variety. Up to 130 days should elapse from the moment of germination to harvest.

Yield

Consistent yield and transportability are the most important positive characteristics of the variety. From one square meter of plantings are harvested from 2.2 to 4.2 kilograms of tomatoes. The yield of marketable fruits is from 75 to 96%.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

It will not be possible to independently obtain planting material from a hybrid variety; you will have to buy seeds. It is advisable to use the seedling method of growing vegetables. Sowing is performed in late winter or early spring. It is not necessary to carry out seed treatment, as they are sold already prepared.

Optimal landing algorithm.

  • Seedling containers must be prepared in advance. Most often, boxes, plastic containers, peat pots or bags made of dense polyethylene are used. It is advisable to buy ready-made soil.

  • The seeds are deepened into the ground by 1-1.5 centimeters. The lines are made out every 2-3 centimeters, keeping the same distance between the rows.

  • The seed is covered with a layer of earth, moistening it. Irrigate with a spray.

  • The container is covered with foil and left in a room with a high temperature (about +25 degrees Celsius).

  • As soon as the seeds germinate en masse, the shelter is removed, and containers with seedlings are transferred to a cooler place with a temperature of + 19 ... 20 degrees.

  • Young plants are planted after the appearance of a couple of leaves. The volume of containers for picking is from 0.8 to 1 liter.

  • The seedlings are fertilized with potassium sulfate or superphosphate. A little vermicompost is added to these components. After the plant is fed every 2-3 weeks.

  • In the process of growing seedlings, do not forget about regular irrigation.

  • Seedlings need 10 to 12 hours of light for full growth. In a region with short winters, additional lighting is indispensable. LED and fluorescent lamps are used.

As soon as the weather is warm outside, it is time to transplant the seedlings to a new place. It is important to make sure that the frost is completely over. A couple of weeks before transplanting, the seedlings are hardened, leaving them in the fresh air for a short time, after which they gradually increase to a whole day.

For growing tomatoes, a moderately nutritious soil is suitable, therefore, it is not enriched with organic compounds. The soil is disinfected with a solution of copper sulfate before planting. Use a tablespoon of the substance per bucket.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

Bushes are planted either in a checkerboard pattern, or in grooves. A minimum of 0.5 meters of space is left between the plants, and 40 centimeters between the rows. Thus, one square meter will fit from 4 to 6 plants.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

In the process of cultivation, pinching, tying and formation of plants are necessarily carried out. Tomatoes are molded into 1-2 stalks. The hybrid variety is cared for in the same way as other determinant varieties.

To get the maximum yield, certain rules must be followed.

  • To prevent the branches from breaking from the weight of the vegetables, they need to be tied up in time to strong and reliable supports.

  • Extra stepsons are removed immediately. This contributes to improved formation of ovaries.

  • Once a week, 3-4 leaves are removed from the bush.

  • If Bobkat grows in a greenhouse, it needs to be regularly ventilated.

  • Water the bushes abundantly 1-2 times a week.

Despite the fact that the variety can fully develop and please with a rich harvest without the use of fertilizers, it is recommended to feed the plantation during the formation of ovaries and during active fruiting. At this time, the tomato especially needs the following components: iodine, manganese, boron and potassium.

You can make your own formula or buy it ready-made at any gardening store. Ash (in a volume of 1.5 liters), which is mixed with iodine (10 milliliters) or boric acid (10 grams), demonstrates high efficiency. The resulting fertilizer is not used in its pure form, it is diluted in 10 liters of water.

In the process of growth, the Bobkat variety forms a large number of foliage and stepchildren. If they are not removed in time, set formation will decrease. The work must be done carefully so as not to damage the branches.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when it does not rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

This vegetable crop has excellent resistance to many diseases and common infections. Experienced summer residents say that the variety is not afraid of verticillosis and fusarium wilting. The fruits do not crack, retaining their appearance and shape. And there is also resistance to tobacco mosaic. If you water your plants on time and provide them with enough light, they will be able to resist powdery mildew without any problems.

The best prevention of diseases is considered to be full-fledged care, which includes loosening the soil, removing weeds, watering, applying top dressing and observing other rules of agricultural technology.

As for harmful insects, the plant can be attacked by aphids or whiteflies. The second type of parasite is located on the back of the leaf and lays eggs. The larvae hatch and begin to suck the sap of the plants. The secretions of these insects are considered a breeding ground for sooty fungus. Whiteflies are often found in poorly ventilated areas.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

Tomato easily tolerates drought and high temperatures, so it will feel quite comfortable in hot climates.
