Tomatoes are famous for their taste and health benefits. The Pink Banana variety has gained popularity relatively recently. In this article, we will consider the main characteristics of the culture, taste, ripening time and yield, and note the agrotechnical aspects.
Description of the variety
Bushes of tomatoes Banana pink have unlimited growth power, therefore the variety is classified as indeterminate. On average, the height of the seedling reaches 2 m. There are bushes with lower shoots up to 0.9 m. It depends on where the crop is grown (in the open field or in a greenhouse).
The stem is strong and powerful. Due to the peculiarity of growth, it is necessary to tie up trellises or stakes to a system so that the bush does not break under its weight.
The leaves are large, oblong, pointed towards the end, dark green in color, matte. There is a large ribbing along the edging. The surface of the leaf is dissected by the section, there is a slight pubescence. The first ovary is formed at the level of the eighth leaf from the ground. Further, stepchildren are formed every 2 sheets.
Flowers are bisexual, self-pollination. Up to 12 peduncles appear on the brush, so the fruits ripen in clusters.
The peculiarity of the variety is that it is not necessary to pinch the top, and excessive lateral stepsons should be cut off.
The positive aspects include:
high and stable yield;
good tolerance to high temperatures and short drought;
resistance to fungal disease - late blight.
There are also other representatives of the Banana tomato variety:
Banana yellow;
Golden Banana;
A variegated banana.
The main qualities of the fruit
The fruits are distinguished by an elongated oblong shape resembling a cylinder. It is also called pepper-shaped. There is a characteristic rounding at the tip. The length of tomatoes is from 7 to 12 cm. The minimum weight of tomatoes is 80 g, with good care and regular feeding, the weight can reach 120-150 g. Up to 7 fruits ripen on one brush.
The skin is firm and firm, smooth to the touch. Infrequent cracking of the peel is noted. The pulp is dense and sugary, slightly watery, while the juiciness of the tomatoes is average.
Excellent transportability and shelf life.
Taste characteristics
Gardeners note that the Pink Banana variety has a pronounced tomato flavor. The sweetness of the fruit is average, so for some, the aftertaste seems a little bland.
The taste is not affected by weather conditions.
Ripening and fruiting
The culture belongs to early maturing varieties. Fruit ripening period ranges from 105 to 110 days. The active period of fruiting falls in July - September, the indicators may vary depending on the climatic conditions of the region.
Yield
The yield of the variety directly depends on where exactly the tomatoes were grown. Indoors 10-12 kg / m2 can be removed. In the open field, the yield is slightly inferior, therefore 4-5 kg / m2 are removed.
It is worth remembering that the culture has other subspecies with different yields.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
There are no special agrotechnical requirements for planting tomatoes. Banana pink tomatoes are famous for their unpretentiousness to soil and maintenance. But nevertheless, it is worth observing some points that will subsequently help to grow a rich harvest.
For planting seeds, you should first prepare special seedling boxes. Harvesting begins in February-March, because the time of sowing the seeds will depend on where the seedlings will subsequently be planted (in a greenhouse or open ground). First, they are sown in small containers so that the seeds hatch. The seeding pattern in boxes is as follows: the depth of the fossa is 1 cm, the distance between the seeds is 2 cm, and between the rows is 3 cm.
As soon as the seedling has 2 strong leaves, the tomatoes are dived into separate containers.
In the room, the temperature should be + 25 ... 28 degrees, if the temperature is lower, then the containers can be covered with cling film. Watering is done with a spray gun so as not to overmoisten the soil. Do not leave only the sprouted seedlings in direct sunlight for too long, the fragile leaves can burn.
In the greenhouse, boxes with seedlings can be taken out for adaptation at the beginning of May. The bushes should be transplanted into open ground in the heated ground. The air temperature should range from +18 to +22 degrees. In the greenhouse, the daily rate for planting should be + 15 ... 18 degrees.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
The planting scheme for seedlings is the same both for open ground and for greenhouses. First, the selected area is dug up, well spilled with water.
Then pits are prepared for the greenhouse, the depth of which is not more than 0.2 m, for open ground - 0.4 m. Wood ash or peat can be poured into the hole. The seedlings are carefully removed from the pot and transplanted into the hole.
A peg should be driven in next to each bush for later tying.
Growing and care
In order for the bushes to bear fruit well, it is worth observing the schedule of watering and feeding. Remove lateral stepsons and leaves in a timely manner.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
