Growing different types of tomatoes on a garden plot or a summer cottage, every gardener wants to dilute the garden with an exotic variety, of which quite a few have been recently bred. One of the fruitful and very tasty varieties are Orange tomatoes with a characteristic yellow-orange color.

Breeding history

This semi-determinant type of tomato was bred by Russian breeders (Korotkov, Korochkin and Dynnik) not so long ago, a little over 20 years ago, but managed to gain popularity among farmers and novice gardeners. The variety was bred for cultivation in open ground and in film greenhouses. A seed crop was entered into the State Register in 2000.

Description of the variety

Vegetable culture Orange is a tall shrub, reaching a height of 130-150 cm, characterized by a powerful erect stem that can withstand a large number of large tomatoes, and medium dark green leaves. Bushes require tying, as they stretch up and branch strongly. Despite being tall, the bushes are compact.

The main qualities of the fruit

Tomato Orange in shape and color is similar to citrus. It has a regular rounded shape, rich amber-orange color, delicate skin that protects the vegetable from cracking. The sizes of tomatoes are large - from 180 to 300 g, sometimes they grow up to 400 g.

Taste characteristics

The tomato flavor is impressive. Its tender pulp is juicy, fleshy, practically without seeds. The taste of tomatoes is sweet and aromatic without sourness. The unique composition of the vegetable allows it to be used in a children's diet, as well as for people with gastrointestinal diseases. The variety is universal, therefore it is suitable for eating fresh, for salads, sauces and canning.

Ripening and fruiting

The variety is medium early, so it takes 98-110 days to ripen. Ripening occurs gradually, so the harvest is harvested for a long time. Fruiting can last until the first seasonal cold snaps. In a greenhouse, tomatoes can be harvested until November. You can taste the first fruits in mid-July.

Yield

The variety has good yield indicators. From 1 m2 in open ground without a film coating, about 5.2 kg can be harvested during the fruiting period. In the greenhouse, yields are more plentiful - from 1 m2 up to 20 kg are harvested.

The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground

For seedlings of Orange tomatoes, it is necessary to sow seeds 60-65 days before planting in open ground (late February - early March). For the healthy growth of the bushes, you will need warmth and a lot of lighting (12-16 hours a day). By the time the seedlings are planted in the ground, the bushes should have 5-9 leaves, a powerful root system and a height of 25-35 cm. The pick is carried out at the age of 4 true leaves.

Landing in open ground is possible when the air warms up to +15 degrees (late April - early May). Bushes are planted at a distance of 35-40 cm from each other.A support made of wood or metal is installed near each bush, since a garter will have to be done in a few weeks. The main thing is that the rope does not dig into the stem too much, as wounds may appear. In a greenhouse, the optimum temperature for planting seedlings is considered to be +20 degrees.

Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener will be able to harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.

Landing scheme

It is recommended to plant up to 4 seedling bushes per 1 m2, no more. The ideal planting pattern is 40x60 centimeters.

Planting a tomato is a very important and painstaking business. In order to get a good harvest of tomatoes, you need to competently approach the issue of planting. When planting a tomato in the ground, it is necessary to take into account many factors - correctly determine the timing, prepare the soil, correctly calculate the distance between plants, take into account the rules of crop rotation.

Growing and care

The variety is grown by seedlings, but some farmers use direct sowing, since the culture is not hybrid. The optimal area for growing Orange tomatoes will be fertile soil cleared of weeds with good air permeability. In addition, the site should be well lit by the sun and protected from strong winds.

Comprehensive care consists of the following activities: regular watering (it is forbidden to water under the scorching sun), weeding the beds and loosening the soil, the formation of bushes (removal of large lower leaves and stepchildren), the introduction of nutrients (3-4 stages of fertilization). In addition, do not forget about pinching.

Watering tomatoes is not difficult. After planting, the plant is watered at such intervals that the soil remains moist. In dry weather, when there is no rain for a long time, watering can be carried out every day, but usually the beds with tomatoes are irrigated 2-3 times a week.
The methods of tying tomato bushes can vary significantly, depending on the availability of available material, the method of fixation, and also the variety. In general, it is recommended to adhere to the following scheme: first, the central stems are grabbed, and then, as the fruits ripen, the lateral branches.
One of the important conditions for tomato agricultural technology is the correct formation of the bush. The formation of tomato bushes means performing the following steps: pinching, pinching, trimming the leaves, normalizing the ovaries.

A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.

It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

Despite the high immunity of the variety to many diseases and bacteria, one should not forget about prevention. The risks of some diseases are associated with the fact that the bush can come into contact with the ground, which will cause rotting of the fruit, the invasion of small pests.

Pesticides, concentrated soap solution, or garlic infusion can help get rid of parasites. Protection against fungal diseases will be provided by a remedy containing copper. The most insidious and dangerous for seedlings is a bacterial disease that can destroy a bush in a few days. The cause of the onset of the disease may be insufficient processing of the seed before planting. The infected bush must be burned, as they can spread the bacterial infection.

Treatment and prevention of diseases and pests
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, diseases often occur due to a violation of the temperature regime and excessive humidity. The most common diseases are fungal (late blight, cladosporium, rot).
The fight against diseases and pests of tomatoes in open areas can be quite difficult. This is because nightshades are exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and insect pests.

Resistant to adverse weather conditions

The tomato variety Orange is thermophilic, therefore it reacts sharply with a decrease in yield to temperature fluctuations. In addition, orange tomatoes do not like drafts and strong winds.

Growing regions

Regions with a temperate climate are optimal for growing Orange tomatoes. In the southern strip, tomatoes grow well in open ground, and in regions with harsh winters and a prolonged cold off-season, it is better to grow crops in greenhouses. The variety is massively grown in the Central Black Earth, East Siberian, Central, Middle Volga and North-West regions.

Review overview

Most summer residents have known each other for a long time and are happy to grow Orange tomatoes, which are characterized by excellent taste, are attractive in appearance, and do not require special growing skills. Many people adore Orange tomatoes for their incredible taste and aroma, as well as great benefits for the body. The variety is not suitable for growing on an industrial scale, since tomatoes are fragile, they do not tolerate transportation and long-term storage.
